Pacers star Pascal Siakam caught in scary pregame ritual before NBA Finals as fans claim 'devil magic' sealed win

Daily Mail7 hours ago

NBA fans believe 'devil magic' was responsible for the Indiana Pacers' series-saving victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder after cameras spotted Pascal Siakam in a disturbing pregame ritual.
The Pacers have set up a mouthwatering Game 7 showdown with the Thunder in this season's NBA Finals after an emphatic 108-91 win in Indiana on Thursday night.
Before they blew Oklahoma City away at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Siakam could be seen going through a bizarre routine in the tunnel as he and his teammates huddled together for one last pep talk.
Television cameras captured the Cameroonian power forward glancing up at the ceiling with his eyes completely rolled back, leaving fans both baffled and slightly terrified on social media.
'That man went to another place. Something happened here,' one user posted on X.
'Everybody praying & he turning into the exorcist,' wrote another.
A third asked: 'And you're gonna tell me they don't [do] devil magic?'
Siakam's routine clearly worked as he put up 16 points in a resounding win over the Thunder
A fourth joked: 'Sold his soul for this game!'
'Undertaker?' said another who drew comparisons with the WWE legend.
Whatever Siakam was up to in the tunnel, it worked for him and his team as he put up 16 points and 13 rebounds in a dominant victory for the Pacers.
Star man Tyrese Haliburton scored 14 points for the Pacers, who started slowly and then turned things into a blowout.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was on hand with 21 points for the Thunder, who pulled their starters from the game when they trailed by 30 going into the fourth. Jalen Williams added 16.
Indiana missed its first eight shots and got down 10-2. The arena, roaring just a few minutes before at the start, quieted quickly.
After the slow start, the Pacers outscored the Thunder 68-32 over the next 24 minutes. An Indiana team that hadn't led by more than 10 points at any time in the first five games - and that double-digit lead was brief - led by 28 early in the third quarter.
The margin eventually got to 31, which was Oklahoma City's second-biggest deficit of the season.
Indiana's huge win means the thrilling series will now be decided on Sunday night when the action moves back to Oklahoma for a decisive Game 7, the first one in the NBA Finals since 2016.

Portland working to rekindle Fire brand for WNBA franchise

June 20 - The Portland Fire is set to burn bright in the WNBA again as the identity of the expansion team ready to debut in 2026 begins to take shape. According to Front Office Sports, multiple trademark applications have been filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with the Portland Fire name. The Fire originally made their debut in the Rose City in 2000, but folded after the 2022 season despite strong support. Portland's WNBA entry went 37-59 in its three seasons with its best campaign resulting in a 16-16 record just before folding. "It was such a great franchise that was supported so well by the community," former Fire head coach Linda Hargrove told Front Office Sports. Hargrove was the only head coach the Fire had in their three seasons. The Golden State Valkyries are making their WNBA debut this season, while the Fire are set to return to the league, technically as an expansion team, alongside the new Toronto Tempo next season. That will give the league 15 teams, one shy of commissioner Cathy Engelbert's stated goal of 16 teams by 2028. --Field Level Media

Stars sign D Nils Lundkvist to 1-year contract

June 20 - The Dallas Stars re-signed defenseman Nils Lundkvist to a one-year, $1.25 million contract on Friday. Lundkvist, 24, recorded five assists and a plus-4 rating in 39 games this past season. "Nils brings a unique combination of offensive ability and defensive reliability to our lineup," Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. "His puck-moving skills, vision, and hockey sense are assets that elevate our game in transition. We're thrilled to have him back and excited to see how he continues to grow and contribute to our success." Lundkvist has totaled 44 points (nine goals, 35 assists) in 183 career games with the New York Rangers and Stars. The Swede was selected by the Rangers with the 28th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft before being traded to Dallas on Sept. 19, 2022 in exchange for a conditional first-round selection in the 2023 draft and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2025 draft. The Stars also signed forward Mavrik Bourque to a one-year, $950,000 contract extension. Bourque, 23, recorded 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 73 games last season. --Field Level Media

Benfica, Auckland City in weather delay at Orlando

June 20 - A Group C clash between Benfica and Auckland City at Orlando, Fla., was delayed due to inclement weather Friday, with Benfica holding a 1-0 halftime lead. Angel Di Maria scored Benfica's goal from the penalty spot against the semi-pro opponents from New Zealand, who lost their opener to Bayern Munich 10-0. It was De Maria's second of the tournament. After Auckland's Nathan Garrow made seven first-half saves, Di Maria finally put Benfica in front in the eighth minute of first-half stoppage time. Gianluca Prestianni won the opportunity, slicing into the right corner of the penalty area and weathering Haris Zeb's late sliding challenge. Di Maria calmly converted, allowing Garrow to guess in the wrong direction before dispatching his side-footed effort. That provided an end to some growing early frustration from the Portuguese favorites after a succession of missed chances and 18 total first-half shot attempts. Amid that stretch, Álvaro Carreras picked up his second caution of the tournament, meaning he'll be suspended for Benfica's third match against River Plate on Tuesday. --Field Level Media
