Johnson Controls launches new chillers for Mideast data centres
Johnson Controls, a global leader for smart, safe, healthy and sustainable buildings, has expanded the availability of its industry-leading York Yvam air-cooled magnetic bearing chillers to the Middle East, thus addressing the surging demand for efficient and sustainable cooling solutions in the region's fast-growing data centre market.
As artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and digital transformation continue to drive data centre expansion across the Middle East, the YVAM chiller provides a cutting-edge thermal management solution designed for hyperscale and colocation facilities, said Johnson Controls.
A major player in the region, Johnson Controls offers a comprehensive portfolio of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, air handling units, fire safety solutions, building automation, and digitally connected services, ensuring end-to-end support for hyperscale and colocation data centres.
"With the Middle East experiencing a rapid increase in data storage needs, coupled with the growing adoption of AI and cloud services, data centre operators require advanced cooling technologies that enhance efficiency while minimizing resource consumption," said Devrim Tekeli, the vice president and general manager for MEA, Johnson Controls.
"The York Yvam chiller is designed to meet these challenges, offering unmatched energy savings, water conservation, and operational flexibility, making it an ideal choice for the region's evolving data centre landscape, he stated.
The York Yvam chiller is engineered to excel in the extreme temperatures of the Middle East, operating effectively in ambient conditions reaching +55°C.
Its ability to deliver chilled water temperatures between +15°C and +30°C ensures seamless compatibility with various cooling technologies, including cold air aisles, direct liquid cooling, and immersion cooling, it added.

In a significant leap towards modernizing travel documentation, India has begun the phased rollout of its new e-passports, which feature advanced electronic chips for improved security and faster immigration processing. The initiative is part of the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, launched on April 1, 2024, by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). These next-generation passports are now being issued in select cities and will be available across all Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) by the end of 2025, the MEA has confirmed. 🔹 What Is an E-Passport? An e-passport is a regular passport booklet embedded with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and antenna, located inside the back cover. This chip securely stores the holder's biometric data, including a digital photograph and fingerprints, along with personal information. This allows for quick, secure, and contactless identity verification at immigration checkpoints, especially at automated e-gates in major international airports. A gold RFID chip logo on the front cover distinguishes e-passports from traditional ones. 🔹 Key Features & Benefits Enhanced Security: The RFID chip uses Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to prevent tampering, cloning, or identity theft. Faster Immigration: Travelers using e-passports can pass through automated e-gates, reducing wait times and minimizing manual checks. Global Compatibility: E-passports comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, facilitating smoother travel across borders. Reduced Fraud: Digitally signed data stored on the chip makes counterfeiting extremely difficult. 🔹 How to Apply for an E-Passport The application process remains the same as for a traditional passport: Register on the Passport Seva Portal. Log in with your user credentials. Choose ' Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue.' Complete the online form and pay the application fee. Schedule an appointment at the nearest PSK or POPSK. Visit the center with original documents and submit biometric data. Once approved, the e-passport is delivered to your registered address. 🔹 Where Are E-Passports Currently Available? As of now, e-passports are being issued at regional Passport Offices in cities including: Delhi Chennai Hyderabad Jaipur Surat Bhubaneswar Goa Ranchi Nagpur Shimla Amritsar Jammu Raipur This list will expand progressively as the program is scaled up nationwide. 🔹 What About Existing Passports? According to the MEA, existing non-electronic passports remain valid until their date of expiry. There is currently no mandate to upgrade to an e-passport, and citizens can continue to use their traditional passports unless they opt for a new or reissued one under the e-passport system. 🔹 India Joins Global Trend With this launch, India joins countries like the United States, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Brazil, and Australia, which have already adopted biometric e-passport systems. The global shift toward electronic travel documents is part of broader efforts to ensure border security, enhance traveller convenience, and support digital governance. ✈️ Looking Ahead The implementation of e-passports is expected to revolutionize international travel for Indian citizens by reducing bottlenecks at immigration and improving security protocols. Johnson Controls opens largest York chiller production line in Jeddah
Johnson Controls Arabia, a global leader in smart building controls, and energy efficiency solutions, has inaugurated the first-ever 600-tonne air-cooled chiller production line at the York manufacturing complex in King Abdullah Economic City, Jeddah. The largest of its kind ever manufactured in Saudi Arabia, the chiller represents the latest evolution in the globally renowned YVAA series, now designed and manufactured in the kingdom with full compliance to the 'Saudi Made' certification programme, said a statement from Johnson Controls Arabia. Built for premium energy efficiency and optimal performance, this chiller meets the strictest standards in electrical safety, environmental sustainability, and trade requirements - both locally and internationally, it stated. This milestone is accompanied by the launch of Saudi Arabia's first AHRI-certified performance testing lab dedicated for up to 600-tonne air-cooled chillers, reinforcing the kingdom's emergence as a regional hub for HVAC innovation and industrial excellence. This breakthrough highlights the company's leadership in localizing HVAC technologies and its long-standing track record to high-performance manufacturing. It also holds AHRI Certification, confirming its verified performance and reliability. As part of Johnson Controls' global technology transfer initiative, this chiller benefits from the same design and manufacturing protocols the company used across the world, enabling cost-effective, high-quality local production, it stated. It enables localised Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), certification renewals, and prototype testing, significantly reducing lead times and boosting customer confidence. Accredited by IAS and equipped with advanced precision technologies, the lab enhances the company's research, development, and quality assurance capabilities, said the top official. The York Manufacturing Complex plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainability through local manufacturing. It exports 30% of its production to 26 countries - including high-demand markets such as the US and China - while 80% of total sales come from products manufactured in-house. The factory emphasizes high-quality, eco-friendly production that strengthens the 'Saudi-Made' brand.
