Johnson Controls launches new chillers for Mideast data centres
Johnson Controls, a global leader for smart, safe, healthy and sustainable buildings, has expanded the availability of its industry-leading York Yvam air-cooled magnetic bearing chillers to the Middle East, thus addressing the surging demand for efficient and sustainable cooling solutions in the region's fast-growing data centre market. As artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and digital transformation continue to drive data centre expansion across the Middle East, the YVAM chiller provides a cutting-edge thermal management solution designed for hyperscale and colocation facilities, said Johnson Controls. A major player in the region, Johnson Controls offers a comprehensive portfolio of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, air handling units, fire safety solutions, building automation, and digitally connected services, ensuring end-to-end support for hyperscale and colocation data centres. "With the Middle East experiencing a rapid increase in data storage needs, coupled with the growing adoption of AI and cloud services, data centre operators require advanced cooling technologies that enhance efficiency while minimizing resource consumption," said Devrim Tekeli, the vice president and general manager for MEA, Johnson Controls. "The York Yvam chiller is designed to meet these challenges, offering unmatched energy savings, water conservation, and operational flexibility, making it an ideal choice for the region's evolving data centre landscape, he stated. The York Yvam chiller is engineered to excel in the extreme temperatures of the Middle East, operating effectively in ambient conditions reaching +55°C. Its ability to deliver chilled water temperatures between +15°C and +30°C ensures seamless compatibility with various cooling technologies, including cold air aisles, direct liquid cooling, and immersion cooling, it added. Some of York Yvam chiller's key benefits include: *40% lower power consumption annually while maintaining optimal cooling capacity. *Zero on-site water use, addressing the region's growing focus on Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) and sustainable water conservation. *Ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant, supporting sustainability goals and regulatory compliance. *Johnson Controls' proprietary magnetic-bearing technology and variable-speed drives, enhancing efficiency and eliminating the need for free cooling coils. *Low noise output of 65 dBA at 10 meters, significantly quieter than traditional screw chillers, making it ideal for urban environments. *Lubrication-free design, reducing maintenance costs and system complexity. *Quick Start technology, enabling the chiller to return to full load in as little as three minutes after a power interruption, ensuring continuous operations for critical data centre infrastructure. *Flexible platform, designed for easy inspection and serviceability. As the region sees a surge in investments in digital infrastructure, Johnson Controls said it remains committed to delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions tailored to the Middle East's unique operational challenges. "The YVAM chiller's advanced design and efficiency will transform data centre thermal management in the Middle East," remarked Tekeli.

Johnson Controls to unveil innovative products at Dubai event
Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart, safe, healthy and sustainable building solutions, is set to showcase its latest innovations at Connect|Mena - DCD Dubai 2025. Set to be held on April 15, the two-day premier event will bring together industry leaders, hyperscale and colocation operators, cloud service providers, and digital infrastructure experts to discuss emerging trends and solutions shaping the future of data centres. According to Mordor Intelligence, the Middle East Data Centre Cooling Market is projected to grow from USD 0.19 billion in 2025 to USD 0.86 billion by 2031, at a CAGR of 28.43%. As a regional leader in digital transformation and sustainability, the UAE is driving investments in smart cities, AI, and hyperscale data centres, solidifying its role as the Middle East's cloud computing hub, it stated. With under-construction IT load capacity reaching 3,534 MW and raised floor space expanding to 12.6 million sq. ft by 2030, Mena's data-driven industries are experiencing rapid growth. As the first regional nation committed to net-zero by 2050, the UAE is integrating sustainability into its digital economy. Given data centres' high energy consumption, government initiatives in energy efficiency, AI-powered cooling, and green infrastructure set a regional benchmark, said its top official. "The UAE is leading the charge in digital transformation, setting ambitious sustainability targets while driving rapid expansion in AI, cloud computing, and hyperscale data centres," remarked Devrim Tekeli, the VP and general manager for MEA at Johnson Controls. "As data centre operators scale their facilities to support growing digital demands, Johnson Controls is uniquely positioned to provide future-ready solutions that are critical to optimizing energy use, ensuring operational resiliency, and enabling long-term sustainability," he added. At the event, Johnson Controls will showcase its top-class solutions that align with the region's data centre efficiency and sustainability goals. These include: *York Yvam Air-Cooled Magnetic Bearing Chillers - A key thermal management solution that reduces power consumption, supports broader temperature ranges, and minimizes noise levels, making it ideal for high-performance data centres operating in extreme climate conditions. *Metasys Building Automation System – A next-generation intelligent monitoring and automation platform designed to maximise uptime, enhance energy efficiency, and provide seamless control over critical infrastructure. *Comprehensive Fire and Security Solutions – Advanced fire detection and suppression technologies specifically designed for mission-critical environments, ensuring uninterrupted operations and risk mitigation. *Service & Support Solutions – Tailored maintenance and optimisation programmes designed to extend equipment lifespan, improve operational performance, and enhance reliability. Recognising the UAE's position as the region's technology and sustainability hub, Johnson Controls is actively contributing to the next generation of energy-efficient and scalable data centres.
