Jazan University foreign scholarship scheme thriving as intake hits 2,100
RIYADH: Jazan University enrolled 344 students into its foreign scholarship program this year, taking the total since its inception to 2,100.
The latest intake represent more than 20 countries, including France, Canada, the Russian Federation and several Arab, African and Asian nations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
As well as helping the university to increase its global standing, the program provides a platform for enhancing relationships between people from around the world, and nurturing cultural understanding and intellectual moderation, the report said.
Jazan University is regarded as a leading scientific institution within the Kingdom and the wider Arab world. It champions the message of Islam and the teaching of the Arabic language, while promoting the values of moderation, balance and understanding among people.
As well as the educational benefits, students enrolled on the scholarship program have access to a comprehensive healthcare package, which includes their accompanying family members, and various financial support options to cover shipping costs and the purchase of relevant materials and equipment.
The university also provides free flights home at the end of each academic year to ensure its students' well-being.
A recent beneficiary of the scheme is Obaidur Rahman Abdul Hannan.
'This is an important academic project, which not only helps the meritorious students but also serves the purpose for achieving cultural understanding and intellectual moderation, making it an ambitious project deserving praise and appreciation both locally and internationally,' he told Arab News.
'Saudi Arabia is emerging as a global hub for higher education, offering a plethora of fully funded scholarships to international students across various disciplines.
'These scholarships by Jazan University, with excellent facilities, bearing all expenses, flight tickets, provide an excellent opportunity for non-Saudi students … to pursue various courses in such a prestigious university.'

Departing pilgrims praise Saudi hospitality, organization during Hajj
RIYADH: Saudi authorities at the Halat Ammar border crossing in the Tabuk region have been saying their goodbyes to departing Hajj pilgrims from around the world. The farewell process reflects Saudi Arabia's coordinated efforts to serve pilgrims under the supervision of Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan. Government and service agencies have been working professionally to ensure procedures are completed smoothly and pilgrims have access to any necessary, health and guidance services, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday. As well as taking their personal memories of a well-organized Hajj, each of the departing pilgrims is given a copy of the Holy Qur'an as a gift from King Salman. Many commented on how well managed the Hajj had been and expressed their gratitude to the officials and organizers at the Two Holy Mosques and other holy sites. Egyptian Mostafa Allam said: 'We did not expect such organization and coordination at every stage, from reception to farewell.' Kawthar Mohamed, also from Egypt, said: 'Everyone treats us kindly, with constant smiles and good service.' Mohammed Ibrahim Abdulrahman, a pilgrim from Jordan, said: 'We felt as though we were among our own family. Thanks to the Kingdom, its government and people for their generosity and care.' Palestinian Issa Abdulwahab said: 'Not for a moment did it feel like a departure, but rather a farewell filled with love and appreciation.'

Hajj operations set ‘global benchmark' in crowd management: Sri Lanka envoy
COLOMBO: Saudi Arabia's organization of this year's Hajj has set a new standard in crowd management through the use of advanced technologies, Sri Lanka's envoy said on Sunday, as hundreds of thousands of pilgrims started to return home. In the 2025 Hajj season, almost 1.7 million people undertook the spiritual journey that is one of the tenets of Islam. More than 1.5 million arrived in the Kingdom from abroad, according to data from the General Authority for Statistics. Pilgrims started to arrive in May, ahead of the main rituals which this year fell on June 6-10. Many have already departed for their countries of origin but special post-Hajj flights will continue to operate until mid-July. The way the temporary influx of people has been handled by the Kingdom has 'set a global benchmark in crowd management and smart innovation,' said Ameer Ajwad, Sri Lanka's ambassador to the Kingdom, who this year was part of his country's Hajj contingent. Technology has played a key role in monitoring footage from more than 15,000 cameras installed in and around the holy city of Makkah. The monitoring systems were designed to detect unusual crowd movements and anticipate bottlenecks in foot traffic to help prevent stampedes. 'The Kingdom set an exemplary global benchmark for crowd management by using AI-based crowd monitoring, predictive analytics as well as preventing unauthorized entries,' Ajwad told Arab News. 'Innovations by using advanced technologies such smart tents, digital tools and AI systems were also introduced to facilitate this year's Hajj arrangements.' More than 420,000 workers from the public and private sectors, including security services, served pilgrims during this year's Hajj, GASTAT data shows. The envoy highlighted the 'tireless services rendered by the Saudi security and military officers, as well as guides and volunteers,' and extended gratitude to the Ministry of Health for 'providing world-class healthcare services to the Hajj pilgrims (from) around the globe, including heart surgery for a Sri Lankan pilgrim.' About 3,500 Sri Lankans took part in the pilgrimage this year. Muslims constitute about 10 percent of the 22 million population of the island nation, which is predominantly Buddhist.
