Elephants devastate mango orchard in Garugubilli
Garugubilli (Vizianagaram): Wild elephants stormed into a mango orchard near the Thotapalli Jattu Trust, destroying a nearly ripened crop just days before harvest in Garugubilli mandal of Parvathipuram district. The incident has left local farmer Lopinti Venkayya and his family devastated, as the orchard was their sole source of livelihood.
Venkayya was allotted one acre of D-patta land under a government scheme with the support of the SC Corporation. Since then, he has cultivated mangoes to sustain his family. 'This year's crop was just two to three days away from being harvested. Everything is lost now,' he said.
Though the Jattu Trust helped fence the orchard this year, preventing theft, it could not stop the rampaging elephants.
D. Pari Naidu, founder of the Jattu Trust visited the orchard and said that the elephants uprooted several trees, snapped branches, and shook fruits from the trees, resulting in an estimated loss of nearly Rs50,000. 'Had there been night patrols or trained personnel to monitor wildlife movement, this could have been avoided,' said
Trust members and locals are now on edge, worried about future incidents.

Six house burglaries solved, juvenile gang busted
Nagpur: The local crime branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural has cracked a series of six house burglary cases, leading to the detention of a juvenile gang involved in thefts across multiple police jurisdictions. Valuables worth Rs1.6 lakh have been seized in the operation. The breakthrough came during the investigation of a housebreaking case registered at Kodhali police station. While the local police pursued leads, a parallel probe was launched by the LCB. Acting on technical intelligence and information from informants, LCB teams detained a juvenile from Khaparkheda on June 4. During interrogation, the juvenile confessed to his involvement and named two more minors as accomplices. Further questioning of the detained juveniles revealed that the group had committed several housebreakings in the jurisdictions of Katol, Kuhi, Hinganghat, Mankapur, and Yashodhara Nagar police stations. They were reportedly working alongside two other associates, also believed to be juveniles. During follow-up raids, the police recovered various stolen items from their possession. Std X student steals gold and cash in Kolhapur
Kolhapur: A Std X student from Kolhapur city stole 185g of gold jewellery and Rs50,000 from a neighbour's house. According to information from Laxmipuri police station, Shubhangi Sujay Mhatre (50), resident of Shaniwar Peth of Kolhapur, went to Jyotiba Temple at Wadi-Ratnagiri village with her husband on May 25.
