Sheffield United to sack Chris Wilder for second time with ex-Premier League boss leading contender to replace him

CHRIS WILDER will be sacked as Sheffield United boss this week with Ruben Selles an early frontrunner to replace him.
The Blades boss was stunned after being told he will lose his job at Bramall Lane despite leading them to a club-record 92 points haul in the Championship last season.

Although they officially ended on 90 points, as two of them were docked for breaking EFL rules.
But they had to settle for third after the two automatically promoted clubs Leeds and Burnley racked up a staggering 100 points.
And despite cruising past Bristol City in the play-off semis, they were stunned by a comeback Sunderland win in the final at Wembley.
The defeat means that the Blades have failed to gain promotion through the play-offs for the NINTH time

Selles, who worked wonders at Reading in League One but quit to help save Hull City from relegation last season, was sacked by the Tigers last month. But he has impressed the Blades hierarchy.
The American owners want to go down an AI stats-driven recruitment process and although Wilder is open to using that as a tool he was not completely in agreement with that method.
The club uses AI to scout players, and three players have been signed off the back of it.
The latest player to be signed with AI is little-known star Ehije Ukaki from Bulgarian top-flight club Botev Plovdiv.

Christian Nwachukwu and Jefferson Caceres were signed after being scouted by AI earlier this year.
Neither of them has made an appearance for the club, but Caceres was on the bench for one game.

Selles is seen as a huge gamble by fans as his record at Southampton after taking over from Nathan Jones in the Premier League was abysmal and his only Championship experience was his brief stint at Hull at the end of last season.
Wilder is in his second spell in charge of the Blades, having won promotion from League One to the Premier League, where they finished a club-record ninth in 2020.

We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs,' Jassy wrote in the memo. He continued: 'It's hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.' It's unclear how many workers are expected to be replaced by AI and when. When The Independent reached out to Amazon for comment, it did not give any specific numbers. People familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that Amazon doesn't expect to have mass layoffs soon. Amazon laid off more than 18,000 employees in 2022 and 2023, the Journal previously reported. Those cuts were focused on its devices business, recruiting and retail operations, according to the publication. The company employed more than 1.5 million full-time and part-time workers as of last December.
