Swimmer drowns despite lifesaving efforts at Lake Pueblo
(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — A man is dead after jumping into the water at Lake Pueblo without a life jacket on Saturday, June 7, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
CPW reported that rangers responded to a 911 call of CPR in progress at Rock Creek Cove around 2 p.m. on Saturday. Reports had indicated that a group was swimming and water skiing in the cove when one of them jumped into the water, saying he was hot. Soon after, he was seen floating unconscious.
A nearby boater put the man's body in his boat and administered CPR before calling 911.
CPW rangers arrived and continued CPR while taking the boat back to the North Boat Ramp. A Flight for Life helicopter landed at the park, but the man could not be saved.
'This death is under investigation, but it appears to be a tragic accident,' said Lake Pueblo Park Manager Joe Stadterman. 'We offer our condolences to the family and friends of this victim.'
This comes just a week after a boater was found dead after his boat capsized. Stadterman said that the death is 'especially troubling' after all of the efforts by his team to raise awareness of water safety in the area.

'This is yet another heartbreaking loss of life,' he said. 'It underscores the message we have been stressing to recreate responsibly and to wear life preservers when on or near the water.
