Xilam Group & TF1 Team On Animated Kids' Series ‘Turbo Twins'
French animation studio Xilam Group and network TF1 are partnering to develop Turbo Twins, a new comedy-action CG animation series aimed at the six to-10 years old demographic, which will air on the latter's TFOU children's slot.
The 26 x 22' series was first pitched by Xilam Group at Cartoon Forum 2022 and will be directed by Solène Azernour (Skylander Academy, Lana Longbeard, Angelo Rules).

The series' bible was created by Philippe Rolland and Hervé Nadler, alongside Jessica Kedward and Kirsty Peart (Totally Spies S7-S8, Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes), with its graphic bible by Philippe Rolland (Kaeloo, De Gaulle at the Beach).
The series is set to be delivered in 2027-2028, with Xilam also handling worldwide sales.
The show is set against the backdrop of Karston Speedway Summer Camp – the ultimate summer showdown for the fastest K.A.R. racers, and revolves around teen racing duo, the Turbo Twins.
The stakes have never been higher: for the winners, it's a place at the nationals. For the losers, it's elimination and they go home with nothing. Losing is clearly not an option for duo as high-octane racing meets summer camp life.

French animation studio Xilam – which has studios in Paris, Angoulême in France and Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam – is best known for animation IPs such as Oggy and the Cockroaches, Zig & Sharko and Where's Chicky? It also produced the Oscar-nominated adult feature film I Lost My Body.
The partnership announcement was made on the eve of the Annecy International Film Festival, where the company will be present in the MIFA market and also participate in the events program with a Work-in-Progress session for its upcoming animated feature Listen to the Moon, inspired by Michael Morpurgo's eponymous novel.
TF1's TFOU children's slot garnered an average 21% viewing share in France in 2024, and also offers an additional 1400 hours across multiple channels on TF1, TFX as well as on the free streaming platform TF1+.
Yann Labasque Head of TF1 Group's Youth Programming welcomed the Turbo Twins partnership.

‘How To Train Your Dragon' (2025) Review - A Live-Action Remake Done Right
An unsung curse that has plagued the cinematic landscape for years now is that of the dreaded 'live-action remake'. Despite coming on strong with Jon Favreau's Jungle Book reimagining in 2016, just about every genre entry since has suffered from a lack of color and inspiration in favor of a bland, play-by-play remake of whatever animated classic is being castrated. That is, until Dean DeBlois decided to tackle his own How to Train Your Dragon franchise, sculpting the live-action reformation with the same hands that created the original. The result is, in a rarity for the type, almost as magical as the original animated release was in 2010. DeBlois and Dreamworks didn't just get this one right — they set a new standard. While the live-action makeover's narrative is almost a one-to-one retelling of the first movie, it sets itself apart with strong casting and unique visuals. In an age of much more expensive movies looking unrealistic and unconvincing, the remake of a children's dragon movie coming onto the scene with some of the best visual effects in the last half-decade was certainly unexpected; yet, here we are. How to Train Your Dragon simply looks fantastic. The franchise's cartoonish sensibilities are not lost in live-action, like many feared they would be; instead, they're adapted in style, lending themselves to the realistic look of the titular creatures without losing the whimsy that makes them feel so unbelievably special. Toothless, especially, is flawlessly executed here. His characterization (which, of course, relies entirely on expressions) strongly translates to the film's relatively grounded visual palette. If anything, he stands out more in this one than he did in the original. Just fantastic work across the board in that regard here. Mason Thames as Hiccup, situated aside Toothless for most of the runtime, is nothing short of a stroke of genius in this adaptation. His interactions with the computer-generated dragon are terribly convincing and wonderfully spirited, and his bouts of emotion with the rest of the village, especially Gerard Butler's Stoick, his father, are staunch standouts. Butler voiced the character in the animated trilogy, but his role reprisal here isn't as simple as it seems. Seeing him in costume and working alongside the rest of the cast in physical form adds a new layer to his delivery as the character. He and Thames create the perfect sort of jagged, confused, painfully loving father/son relationship that the narrative necessitates at the center of the movie. Each of them plays a huge role in the third act's emotional weight, elevating every scene they're in and then some. On that final act, it too is brilliantly done here. While the original film still stands a little taller in most regards, if not only for the reason that it was the first to tell this story on the big screen, the last thirty minutes of the new retelling may actually be a tad stronger. How to Train Your Dragon's scale, from the moment the characters meet at the dragons' lair, is that of a true, proper blockbuster. It's clear that much of the money went to the last few scenes, but the result is a truly dazzling sequence of stakes taking physicality in the form of fire, beating wings, and lone teardrops. If anyone, by that point, is still asking the question: 'Why did this need to be made?' That scene answers it. Was this movie necessary? On the whole, perhaps not. But is it welcome? Absolutely. Prior to this release, it had been more than a decade since audiences were able to see this classic story told at the cinema. For the first movie's director to return to retell it in this form, and to this degree, is a true delight. How to Train Your Dragon is the best live-action remake of an animated movie ever. Point, blank, period. Here's to hoping they tackle the sequels next. How To Train Your Dragon will debut exclusively in theaters on June 13, 2025, courtesy of Universal.

Ghosts might be one of the most popular comedies of modern times, but it owes a large debt to the biggest sitcom of them all, Friends. That was the assertion of Charles Harrison, BBC Studios International Scripted Formats Producer, at Seriencamp today during a session about the international expansion of Ghosts. The series, originally from Monumental Television for the BBC in the UK, follows a young couple inherit a huge castle, only to find one of them can communicate with the various apparitions from history who already live there. 'For the last 20 years in the UK all of our television has been about aspiring to own a home, to own a home in the country, or to do up a home, so the idea of winning a castle is the dream for English people. In this case, it means you're never alone – and you end up with a flat-share comedy. The greatest flat-share comedy is Friends and this show is indebted to Friends.' BBC Studios has been rolling the British comedy series out around the world, with CBS running its strong-rating version to four seasons, with two more to come. There have also been versions in Germany, where TV industry confab Seriencamp is being held this week, and France. Upcoming shows are being readied in Australia and Greece, and several others are understood to be in development. Few comedies have multiple international remakes, and Harrison outlined his theory on why Ghosts has been a format success. 'They key to it is a very simple idea,' he said. 'It's a flat share at the most basic level – a classic premise for a sitcom. Nobody really changes, nobody really learns anything and at the start of every episode the characters pretty much exactly the same.' Friends isn't the only classic sitcom that has helped Ghosts on its path, however. When French commercial broadcaster TF1 ordered Ghosts: Fantômes en Héritage, its writers took a page out of The Office's book. They noted they would follow the scripts of Ghosts' first season before branching off into their own direction, just like Greg Daniels did at NBC with Ricky Gervais' seminal British comedy The Office. Harrison complemented the German version of Ghosts, which is for public broadcaster WDR and streaming service ARD Mediathek, for following the initial recipe and then making new scripting choices. 'When you pick up a format, there is so much good stuff in it that you'd be crazy to get rid of,' he said. 'The structure of the first two episodes leads you in incredibly well, as it's incredibly clear – but there is no need to do it. You won't have the big, bad BBC staring over your shoulder, and we all work very hard to be able to say, 'It's great, but you don't have to do it.' 'I always look on it as a treat the moment where the writers, producers and broadcasters we're working with make the leap and do something different. I cheer when it happens.' Harrison also revealed that a Korean version of Ghosts had been developed. However, he said 'the idea of a young couple trying to find a home together wasn't actually reflective of young Koreans' experience. What they wanted was three sisters as the central characters – one who could see the ghosts, one who never could and one is in the middle, so there are different perspectives.' He added that the Korean 'understanding of spirituality' was 'completely different to the Western view,' which had made the adaptation process 'fascinating.' The Korean version, whose production team was not named, did not get picked up to series.
