Harbhajan Singh backs THIS 24-year-old to bat in place of Shubman Gill in Test series vs England
Following Virat Kohli's retirement, Shubman Gill's batting position is anticipated to shift to number four. Consequently, a replacement is needed for the number three spot. Although Karun Nair is a strong contender, Harbhajan Singh has suggested an alternative candidate.

New Delhi: This five-match Test series against England will be the beginning of the World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign by India. The team will be very different after the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. New Captain Shubman Gill is likely to come in at number four. Karun Nair, having scored runs in the warm-up games against the England Lions, is a possibility at number three, although Harbhajan Singh has indicated otherwise.
Harbhajan Singh wants Sai Sudharsan to be promoted to bat at number three in an interview with IANS, explaining that he is a left-handed batsman and is in tremendous form recently, having won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025.

'In my opinion, Sai Sudharsan should play at No.3. He's a left-hander, in top form, and just came off a very impressive IPL. His technique is sound, and I believe he could be the solution at that position,' Harbhajan said.
Harbhajan Singh showed great concern with the big challenge that the England tour has to offer to the newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, especially due to the lack of experienced players in the team.

'Gill is a new captain, and the team is quite young — there's no Rohit, Virat, Pujara, or even Ajinkya Rahane. It's going to be challenging, but I expect our youngsters to rise to the occasion and perform well,' the former India spinner added.
Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav

Gautam Gambhir Returns To India From England Due To Medical Emergency: Report

Last Updated: Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly returned home from England days before the Tendulkar-Anderson trophy due to a family emergency. Indian men's head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly been forced to return to India from England due to a medical emergency just days before the start of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy on June 20. According to Sportstar, his mother, Seema, has suffered a cardiac arrest and is currently in Intensive Care. Gambhir reached England with the team on June 7. This is his fourth Test series as the head coach. He reportedly missed India's net session on June 12, too, and is no longer with the squad. The date of his possible return is currently uncertain, though some reports say he might come back by next week. Gambhir's return comes on the day of India's intra-squad game. The match, likely to be played between teams drawn from the senior and India 'A' squads, will be played behind closed doors in Leeds, i.e., it won't be broadcast or streamed, and a scorecard is unlikely to be available either. According to news agency PTI, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will assume the charge for the match. Bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak will assist him. It's the last bit of red-ball preparation for several first-time members, who are coming straight from the IPL. The first Test will be played in Headingley from next Friday. Earlier, Gambhir gave a stirring motivational speech to his young team about moving on from the retirements of greats like Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and previous captain Rohit Sharma. 'All I want to say is there are two ways of looking at this group. One is that we are without our three most experienced players, or we've got this phenomenal opportunity to do something special," Gambhir said in a video shared by the BCCI, which was shot before his departure. 'And when I look around this group, the hunger, the passion and the commitment to do something special… If we make sacrifices, if we come out of our comfort zones, if we start fighting, not every day, but every session, every hour and every ball, I think we can have a memorable tour. So make sure we start that today. Start enjoying playing for the country because there's no bigger honour," he added. First Published:

BCCI has reportedly barred media personnel from the game. No scorecard or official match statistics are available for this exercise. On the final day of the match, a player or a member of support staff will be made available to the media to brief the press about performances during the game. Indian players and support staff sported black armbands and observed a minute's silence ahead of practice match on Friday as a homage to the victims of the Air India plane crash. Gambhir returns to India due to family emergency India head coach Gautam Gambhir rushed back to the country earlier on Friday due to a family emergency. Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the former India cricketer left London early on Thursday to attend to his mother, who is in a New Delhi hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. 'Gautam has gone back due to a family emergency. All our prayers are with the family,' a Board source said. In Gambhir's absence, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will take charge, alongside batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and bowling coach Morne Morkel. Board sources indicated that Gambhir is expected to rejoin the team ahead of the first Test, if 'things back home are under control'. India's five-Test series begins on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.
