A's catcher Shea Langeliers could be activated Monday
NEW YORK (AP) — Catcher Shea Langeliers could be activated by the Athletics on Monday after missing 3 1/2 weeks with a strained left oblique.
'I think we're going to get a bat back tomorrow,' manager Mark Kotsay said Sunday. 'Shea Langeliers will rejoin us in Tampa.'
Langeliers was hurt while fouling off a pitch against Minnesota's Kody Funderburk during a June 5 game.
Langeliers started a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday and was 8 for 13 with one homer and four RBIs in three games entering Sunday.
He is batting .237 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs for the A's, but hit .172 over his 18 previous games before getting hurt. Langeliers batted .241 after the All-Star break last year.
'He's a big part of that group that had that success in the second half,' Kotsay said.

No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka not interested in best-of-five-set matches in women's tennis
LONDON (AP) — Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka says she wouldn't want women's tennis to move to best-of-five-set matches at Grand Slam tournaments — like the men play — fearing higher injury risks. 'Probably physically I'm one of the strongest ones, so maybe it would benefit me. But I think I'm not ready to play five sets,' Sabalenka said following her two-set first-round victory at Wimbledon on Monday. 'I think it's too much on the woman's body. I think we're not ready for this amount of tennis. I think it would increase the amount of injuries. So I think this is not something I would consider.' There's no widespread movement for the change, but it's an occasional talking point — if women's tennis should move to best of five at the later stages of the major tournaments. Sabalenka was asked about the French Open final in which Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner in a five-setter that lasted 5 1/2 hours. 'For someone watching, it's amazing to see five hours of great tennis,' Sabalenka said. 'But I'm not really jealous to stay there for five hours as a player. Botafogo sacks coach Paiva after Club World Cup elimination
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Botafogo sacked coach Renato Paiva on Monday, 48 hours after they were eliminated in the Club World Cup by Brazilian rival Palmeiras. The Portuguese held the job for only four months but won Botafogo's first Copa Libertadores title. Botafogo said Paiva was informed on Sunday night. Brazilian media say Botafogo chief John Textor made the decision because he wanted a more aggressive performance from the team in the 1-0 defeat to Palmeiras on Saturday in the round of 16. TV Globo reported Paiva told Botafogo staffers that Textor was trying to interfere in his team selections, which the U.S. businessman denies. Only 10 days ago, Botafogo beat Champions League titleholder Paris Saint-Germain 1-0, and Textor celebrated on the pitch with the 55-year-old Paiva. Earlier, Textor relinquished his role as president of seven-time French champion Lyon to American businesswoman Michele Kang.
