Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court has dismissed two election petitions filed by Mohammed Azharuddin and V Naveen Yadav challenging the election of Maganti Gopinath as Jubilee Hills MLA. Since the legislator has passed away, the court dismissed these EPs as abated.
Ep against Harish Rao dismissed
Justice K Sarath of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed an election petition filed against BRS MLA T Harish Rao by Gadhagoni Chakradhar Goud, challenging the validity of his election from the Siddipet constituency in the 2023 Assembly elections. Justice Sarath ruled that the petition failed to comply with the mandatory requirements laid down under Sections 83 and 100(1)(d) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

BJP MLAs walk out of Bengal Assembly after Speaker rejects adjournment motion on Maheshtala, Murshidabad violence
Tensions flared in the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday after Speaker Biman Banerjee rejected an adjournment motion brought by BJP legislators over recent incidents of violence in Maheshtala and Murshidabad. Following the rejection, BJP MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, staged a protest in the well of the House, raising slogans against the state government. Several BJP legislators carried saffron flags bearing religious symbols and accused the government of being 'anti-Hindu.' After protesting for over half an hour, BJP members staged a walkout. 'The matter is sub-judice, so it should not be discussed in the Assembly,' Speaker Banerjee said in his ruling. Proceedings in the House continued with TMC MLAs in attendance. Minister of State Chandrima Bhattacharya, while addressing the House, criticised the BJP for what she termed an attempt to 'instigate communal violence.' 'They entered the Assembly with the symbol of a particular religion. They can't do this,' she said. Meanwhile, Adhikari filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Calcutta High Court on Thursday regarding the violence in Maheshtala, where a temple was reportedly vandalised. Senior advocate Billwadal Bhattacharyya, appearing for the petitioner, submitted before a division bench of Justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De: 'Immediate deployment of Central Armed Forces in and around the said mandir premises situated in Ward No. 7, Maheshtala, adjacent to Rabindranagar Police Station, is required to restore peace, protect lives, and prevent further communal bloodshed.' He also urged the court to direct authorities to identify the miscreants and take swift, impartial action. 'This is about safeguarding the fundamental and constitutional rights of the Hindu community, including their right to life, property, faith, dignity, and security,' he told the court. The bench declined an urgent hearing but permitted the matter to be formally filed. Separately, Adhikari has sought permission from the Superintendent of Police, Diamond Harbour Police District, to meet families affected by Wednesday's violence in Maheshtala. According to BJP sources, if the request is denied, Adhikari's legal counsel is expected to move the Calcutta High Court seeking permission for the visit. CM Majhi announces plans to visit all Assembly segments in his government's second year
BHUBANESWAR: Day ahead of completing one year in office, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday reiterated the commitment of his government to fulfil the aspirations of people, and announced his plan to visit all Assembly constituencies to gain first-hand knowledge of the issues and address them. Inaugurating the state-level Vikas Mela 2025 at the Exhibition Ground here, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the BJP government, the chief minister said, 'In a democracy, the voice of the people is akin to the voice of God. If people cannot share their problems and struggles with their elected government, such a democracy is lifeless. After my party came to the power, I prioritised direct engagement with the public to resolve their problems on the spot. I have covered all the districts over the past year to review development works. The experience has been rewarding,' Majhi said. Thai wedding, 19 plots, 4 flats: Telangana engineer arrested in graft case
An executive engineer in Telangana's Irrigation and Command Area Development Department, Nune Sridhar, has been arrested after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) unearthed assets worth several crores allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The officer was arrested following searches at 13 locations linked to him and his relatives. According to the ACB, Sridhar, who served in Division number 8, SRSP Camp, Choppadandi, Karimnagar, is accused of acquiring properties through 'unlawful practices and dubious means'. The searches revealed a sprawling web of assets, including luxury real estate and lavish personal expenses. Telangana Engineer's lavish lifestyle under scrutiny Among the most talked-about discoveries was a destination wedding hosted by Sridhar in Thailand for his son, on which he reportedly spent crores. Authorities also traced a high-end 4,500 sq ft flat in Sky High, a luxury residential complex in Shaikpet, Hyderabad, in addition to at least three other flats in Karimnagar. Sridhar is also alleged to own a villa in Tellapur near Hyderabad, three independent buildings in Hyderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar, 19 prime residential plots in these cities, and 16 acres of agricultural land. Commercial space at Ameerpet, stakes in several hotels in Karimnagar, two four-wheelers, gold jewellery, and significant bank deposits were also found during the searches. The ACB confirmed Sridhar's arrest, and he has been sent to judicial remand. The market value of the properties is expected to be much higher than the registered value. Further investigations are ongoing. Links to Kaleshwaram project Sridhar has also been involved in the controversial Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, touted as the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation initiative. The project has faced persistent allegations of irregularities and corruption. The former chief minister of Telangana and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekar Rao has also been summoned by the PC Ghose Commission, which is investigating alleged violations in the project's execution. These corruption allegations had featured prominently during the 2023 Assembly election campaigns.
