Human trafficker arrested in Tripura's Sepahijala district
The arrested person was identified as Sharif Miah, resident of Dudhpukur. He was arrested during a joint raid conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, local police and Border Security Force.
'He was wanted in a case. We conducted raid at his house many times, but he was absconding. We came to know that he is currently at his home and conducted a joint operation to arrest him. We produced him to the court today and sought police remand for him', said officer in-charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station Tapas Das.
In the preliminary interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the case, however, police are investigating to find out whether he had any involvement in other cases, the police official added.
Few days ago, Two persons including one Bangladeshi national and an Indian human trafficker were arrested from two separate places in Tripura.
The trafficker, resident of Chanipur in West Tripura district was arrested during joint operation conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) , Border Security Force (BSF), local police station and other sister agencies.
A series of arrests of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons have come in different parts of Tripura, especially at Agartala Railway Station.
As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested from January 1, 2024 till February 28 this year.
Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, recently informed that 2815 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for illegally crossing the Indo-Bangla border into Tripura from 2022 to October 31, 2024, out of which 1746 have been pushed back to their country of origin and 1069 others are housed in jail custody, temporary detention centers, shelter homes or are out on bail.
Tripura shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes.

The device, which records when a commercial driver is off duty, was "manually manipulated," prosecutors alleged, and the investigators determined Parmar "did not take the required 10 hours of Off Duty or Sleeper Berth as required" during the trip. Parmar initially told investigators that wind had caused the accident. The investigation determined there was no evidence to support that wind caused the crash, and instead the crash was "consistent with that of a drowsy driver."

RPF deploy teams for women safety
Mangaluru: The Palakkad division of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has deployed teams at five major stations under the "Meri Saheli" initiative, to enhance the safety and security of women passengers, especially those travelling alone. The teams identify women travelling alone, sensitise about safety precautions, and provide contact information such as the Rail Madad helpline (139) and digital grievance platforms like Instagram and CPGRAMS for immediate assistance in case of distress. Passenger feedbacks are also collected to improve the programme. A total of 64 women RPF personnel were selected for this mission. On average, 11 women RPF staff attend designated trains every day and interact with around 230 solo women passengers. In 2025, the initiative benefitted 37,276 women travellers, receiving positive public responses. All major night trains are now being escorted by male and female RPF personnel, ensuring a secure travel environment for women. They are equipped with body-worn cameras for greater transparency and accountability. Daily joint patrols by the RPF and GRP are deployed during peak hours to curb nuisance at the stations. Surprise checks in ladies' coaches have also been intensified. In 2025 alone, 971 offenders were apprehended, including trespassers, unauthorised passengers in reserved coaches, and male passengers in ladies' compartments. The Rail Madad helpline (139) has been widely publicised to ensure passengers receive timely assistance. During 2025, 38 complaints were registered through Rail Madad and other online platforms, all of which were promptly resolved.
