Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe, has extended warm congratulations to South Africa's trailblazing amapiano duo, TXC, following their historic win as Best New International Act at the 2025 BET Awards in Los Angeles.
This landmark achievement marks the first time a South African DJ duo has claimed this prestigious global honour, underscoring the genre's rising influence on the world stage.
The BET Awards, remain one of the world's foremost platforms celebrating Black excellence in music, film, and culture.
Speaking from Pretoria, Deputy Minister Mabe described TXC's victory as a moment of national pride and a milestone for South Africa's creative youth.
'TXC's win is a beautiful reminder of the extraordinary talent we have in this country. These young women have worked tirelessly, broken barriers, and proven that South African sound resonates far beyond our borders. Their win is South Africa's win.'
'This moment belongs to every young girl with a dream, and to every artist brave enough to be different. What TXC has achieved is not only personal, it's symbolic. It tells our youth that global stages are within reach.'
Under Mabe's leadership, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has prioritised support for emerging artists, through funding, exposure, and creative development opportunities. TXC's international success, she said, is proof of why sustained investment in the arts matters.

'We remain committed to nurturing talent from the ground up. Our role is to ensure that more artists like TXC have the platform, resources, and support to thrive and to proudly carry our culture onto the world stage.'
Yet, while celebrating this new chapter, Mabe also called on South Africans to honour the legends who paved the way. Through initiatives like the Van Toeka Af Living Legends Recognition Series, launched in 2023, the Department continues to acknowledge cultural icons who shaped the nation's artistic identity:
'Today we celebrate TXC. But we also remember that today's victories stand on the shoulders of yesterday's pioneers. That's what keeps our culture alive and evolving.'

Netflix hikes package prices: How much you will now pay
Netflix subscribers are facing higher monthly bills as the global streaming giant implements price increases from June. Image: Netflix South African Netflix subscribers are facing higher monthly bills as the global streaming giant implements price increases across three of its four subscription tiers. The changes, which began rolling out in May 2025, are now in full effect for most users. The new pricing structure sees increases to the Mobile, Standard, and Premium plans, while the Basic plan remains unchanged. This marks Netflix's second price hike in South Africa since its 2016 launch. When South Africans connect, we don't just network; we build a community. The Lekker Network is a professional network where every conversation starts with, 'How can I help you?' Come join us & be a part of a community of extraordinary Saffas. New Netflix South Africa pricing: Mobile : R59/month (up from R49) – +20% : R59/month (up from R49) – Standard : R179/month (up from R159) – +13% : R179/month (up from R159) – Premium : R229/month (up from R199) – +15% : R229/month (up from R199) – Basic: Remains at R99/month Subscribers were notified via email and in-app messages depending on their billing cycles, with the updated prices applying from their next payment date in June. While Netflix has not released an official media statement regarding the change, a note on its website reads: 'Plans and pricing may change as we continue to improve our service and add more TV shows and movies. Adjustments can also happen in response to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation.' The price hikes come at a time when South African consumers are increasingly sensitive to cost-of-living pressures, with many streaming platforms competing for attention in a saturated market. MultiChoice also upped prices Earlier this year, MultiChoice implemented its own price and product adjustments for DStv and Showmax, signaling a broader industry trend of rising subscription costs as content providers invest more in technology, content rights, and user experience. The unchanged Basic plan offers some relief to budget-conscious subscribers, while the Mobile plan -aimed at single-device viewers – is still Netflix's most affordable option, albeit now 20% more expensive than before. Less than a minute NTANDOYENKOSI DLAMINI Less than a minute Dance party for a good cause It was a night of good music and good vibes at the Andhra Sabha Hall in Port Shepstone last Saturday. Locals polished their dancing shoes for the South African Ladkis and Ladkas show presented by Diya Productions. The show featured the well-known Indira Ramadeen, DJ Avesh and actor Vernon Govender.
