Does Sarah Michelle Gellar come back in the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' sequel?

Warning: spoilers below! And we thought Buffy was slain. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played murdered pageant winner Helen Shivers in the 1997 teen horror flick 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' actually has a surprise cameo appearance in the new sequel, in theaters Friday. So, did Helen make a miraculous recovery, soap-opera style, even after being clearly shown as a corpse on ice at the bottom of the killer's boat in the original movie? 4 Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as Helen Shivers in the original 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection Nope. Helen, who was fatally stabbed by the Fisherman in an alley as a scream-muffling parade passed by, is very much six feet under. Gellar, 48, comes back thanks to somebody's traumatized imagination. During a nightmare sequence, college girl Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline), the seaside town of Southport, North Carolina's reigning Croaker Queen, comes face to face with her foremother. 'You're the girl from the picture!' Danica, who just got a nasty head injury from the Fisherman before falling unconscious, says to Helen. 4 Helen was brutally killed by the Fisherman, so she returns in the sequel in a dream sequence. ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 'I mean, I do have a name,' Helen's ghost, with the Fisherman's hook in hand, dryly replies. 'Helen Shivers!' chirps Danica. The 'Buffy the Vampire' star snaps back, 'And don't you forget it.' Gellar's one-off scene won't have anyone shielding their eyes in terror. The bit is played mostly for laughs. 4 She comes face to face with Danica (Madelyn Cline), Southport's new Croaker Queen. ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 'I was Southport's Croaker Queen way back in, well, I shouldn't date myself,' she says. 'Nineteen ninety-six,' Danica quickly adds. 'Careful, sweetheart. I have the hook.' Helen ultimately imparts a chilling warning to Danica, whose group of friends is being chased by yet another bloodthirsty maniac in a spooky black raincoat. 4 Gellar attended the film's premiere with husband Freddie Prinze Jr. Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency/MEGA 'You're gonna die, Danica,' she says. 'Stay in the dream as long as you can.' Gellar's part in the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' which also features her former co-stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., had been denied for months. Sort of. 'I tried, OK? I harassed her! But she is dead,' writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson told People back in April. 'I tried to pitch some crazy s–t too. I was like, 'What if it's like you weren't dead and you're actually alive, but in hiding?' And Sarah's like, 'I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.' I was like, 'Yeah, but what if?' And she said, 'I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.'' Robinson wasn't lying. Gellar's Helen is dead. But it turns out not having a pulse didn't disqualify her from donning her old Croaker Queen crown one last time.

Caitlyn Jenner's friend and manager Sophia Hutchins' cause of death revealed following fatal Malibu ATV crash

The cause of death for Sophia Hutchins – Caitlyn Jenner's longtime friend and manager – has been revealed two weeks after she was killed in a fatal ATV crash in California. The 29-year-old, a former Trump campaign surrogate, died from blunt force injuries, according to her death certificate released by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health, TMZ reported. Her death was ruled an accident. Advertisement 5 Sophia Hutchins and Caitlyn Jenner at an event. 'It looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,' Sgt. Eduardo Saucedo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department previously told the Daily Mail. I think she just, she came up on them and then hit the car. So it looked like she tried to maneuver to go around it, but she was going too fast and just ended up clipping the rear end of that Mazda, causing her to veer off and go off the cliff there.' Footage captured by KCAL News showed a blue ATV lying next to an upside-down vehicle that had previously crashed in the same spot. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' red carpet reunites Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and more

Iconic '90s stars have called — and we're hooked. Twenty-eight years after the 1997 slasher 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' hit theaters, the cast of the sequel stepped out for its premiere at LA's United Theater on Broadway on Monday. Along with new faces, including Madelyn Cline, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Chase Sui Wonders, the crowds got a blast from the past. 13 Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Philippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. in the 1997 poster for 'IKWYDLS.' ©Columbia Pictures/courtesy Everett Co Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. — who starred in the original project together — turned the premiere into date night. Prinze Jr., 49, reprises his role as Ray Bronson in the sequel. Gellar, 48, played Helen Shivers, who died in the OG movie. The original Kevin Williamson-written film followed a group of four friends who accidentally kill a man. One year later, they're stalked by a hook-wielding killer. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Phillippe rounded out the cast. 13 Freddie Prinze Jr. at the Los Angeles premiere of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' According to Sony Pictures, the 2025 movie follows five friends who 'inadvertently cause a deadly car accident' before they 'cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.' 13 Jennifer Love Hewitt stuns in a black dress at the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' premiere in Los Angeles. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.' Despite not being in the project, Gellar still came out to support her husband of 23 years. She donned a strapless, Oscar de la Renta butterfly mini dress and matched the carpet with a blue and orange color scheme. The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' star accessorized with an orange leather clutch, orange pumps, and kept her long, blonde hair down. 13 Sarah Michelle Gellar wears Oscar de la Renta to the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' premiere in Los Angeles. Jennifer Love Hewitt, who stars as Julie James in the slasher franchise, also stunned on the red carpet. The actress, 46, wore a Rachel Gilbert black dress embellished with jewels and matching closed-toe heels. Unlike her brunette character, Hewitt rocked ginger-red hair for the big night. Gellar is currently in production for the reboot of the hit mystical drama series. In May, the 'Cruel Intentions' alum announced that Ryan Kiera Armstrong will play the new slayer. She simply told People at the time, 'I am dead.' 'My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,' Gellar explained. 'So I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.' 13 Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Jennifer Love Hewitt in the original movie. ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection Earlier this month, Prinze Jr. weighed in on reuniting with Hewitt on the project. 'Whatever a high school union feels like, that's what it felt like,' he expressed to People. 'You have no idea what's changed, what's the same. You're excited to show what you think you're better at. You hope they notice it. It was all those things.' Due to the tight filming schedule, 'there just had to be trust that each of us cared enough to put the work in,' Prinze Jr. continued. 'I didn't have any reason not to trust her. I know how much this character means to her. She puts everything into this girl and always has since the first movie.' 13 Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James in the 2025 film. ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 13 Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Freddie Prinze Jr. in 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection Hewitt, for her part, had some reservations about re-joining the cast. 'I'll be super honest, I had total anxiety for 48 hours before [filming] because I was like, 'Can I do this? Am I going to pull this off?' It's a lot of pressure,' she told People in April. Despite her fear, the 'Holiday Junkie' vet was grateful to be asked back. 13 Freddie Prinze Jr. in the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 'As a female in Hollywood, in your 40s, sometimes you can feel forgotten about,' Hewitt confessed, noting that she felt 'really touched emotionally and honored that Sony would have me back, that the franchise would have me back, that Jen wanted me back, and that the audience wanted me back. It really felt like an honor. Stepping into her shoes again was really fun.' She added that the current cast is 'phenomenal.' 'It's for them to make it their own,' Hewitt gushed. 'And for me to stand by like a proud mom and say, 'It's yours now, take it and run and enjoy.'' 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' hits theaters on Friday.

Ana de Armas sells sleek NYC loft for $3.5M as Tom Cruise romance heats up — here's where she's headed next

After nearly a year of price cuts and market reshuffling, actress Ana de Armas has sold her Soho loft for $3.5 million — the exact amount she last asked — marking the end of her relatively brief stint as a New York City homeowner. Armas purchased the two-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom apartment in 2021 for $2.9 million, according to The sleek, high-ceilinged dwelling underwent a major redesign by celebrity interior designer Nate Berkus and included luxurious details like Moroccan tile backsplashes, marble countertops, a spa-style bath and a custom leather banquette dining nook. The residence first came to market in August 2023 for $4.3 million, was lowered to $3.99 million in March 2024, pulled in June and ultimately returned in February at its final asking price — where it has now found a buyer. The 'Ballerina' star's exit from Manhattan real estate coincides with a broader lifestyle shift. In late 2022, de Armas purchased a $7.2 million off-grid estate in Vermont — a sprawling, secluded property featuring six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, panoramic mountain views, a swimming pool and ample wooded trails. 5 She bought the two-bedroom, 2.5-bath apartment in this building for $2.9 million in 2021 and had the space renovated by interior designer Nate Berkus, with high-end finishes including a chef's kitchen and spa-style bathroom. That home spans more than 8,000 square feet and was originally listed for $7.5 million before the actress negotiated the price down, records show. While she's kept the exact location and features of the Vermont retreat private, de Armas has shared glimpses of its surroundings on Instagram, showing autumn foliage, a fire pit and lovely vistas. She described the property as her 'little cocoon' in a 2024 interview with E! News. 5 Actress Ana de Armas has sold her Soho loft in New York City for $3.5 million, the full asking price, after originally listing it for $4.3 million in 2023. Image Press Agency/NurPhoto/Shutterstock 'I found a home where I really feel off the grid,' she said. 'I can collect myself and only bring there who I want to be with.' The decision to leave city life behind, she explained, was driven by a desire to escape 'the craziness of the world.' 'We all want to have the chance to build your own safe space,' she added. 'I've made that decision myself.' 5 The sale marks a significant lifestyle shift for de Armas, who left the city and Hollywood behind in favor of a quieter life in Vermont. Ana de Armas/Instagram 5 In November 2022, she purchased an off-grid, fully furnished $7.2 million estate there, which includes six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a pool, sauna, mountain views and miles of trails. Ana de Armas/Instagram Despite her quiet relocation, De Armas, 37, has been at the center of romance rumors involving actor Tom Cruise. The two were first spotted dining together in London in February and have since made several joint appearances, including a walk in the park on her birthday and a discreet departure from David Beckham's party. Though neither party has confirmed the relationship, de Armas offered a hint of chemistry in a May 'Good Morning America' interview, saying the pair are 'working on a lot of' projects together and are having 'fun.' 5 Her relocation to Vermont comes as she reportedly grows closer to Tom Cruise. BACKGRID The rumored pairing caught attention online when Tom Cruise's ex-wife, Katie Holmes, appeared to like an Instagram post about the developing relationship. Her subtle nod drew commentary from fans, with one Reddit user joking, 'Celebs, sometimes they're just like us, stalking and accidentally liking posts about their exes.' De Armas' high-profile dating history includes a year-long relationship with Ben Affleck, as well as brief romances with Tinder executive Paul Boukadakis and Manuel Anido Cuesta, stepson of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom confirm split, end engagement ‘with love, stability and mutual respect'

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have confirmed the end of their romance after nearly a decade together. In a joint statement through their reps, the pop star, 40, and the actor, 48, revealed they will continue to co-parent their four-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, 'with love.' 'Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,' Perry and Orlando's spokespeople told Us Weekly on Thursday, July 3. Advertisement 4 Image Press Agency/NurPhoto/Shutterstock 'They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.' Their statement comes just one week after a source claimed that the 'Last Friday Night' hitmaker and the 'The Lord of the Rings' star had split but 'are amicable.' Advertisement Rumors had been swirling that the longtime pair had been on the outs for a while, with an insider telling Us Weekly their breakup was 'a long time coming' and noting things between them had 'been tense for months.' While Perry 'is of course upset,' the source shared that she was 'relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.' Before her engagement to Bloom, the 'Roar' singer was married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012. 4 FilmMagic Advertisement 4 Getty Images for Variety Last month, insiders told Page Six that they were 'waiting till her tour is over' to announce their breakup. Perry has been on tour since April 23 and isn't scheduled to wrap until December. Others claimed their relationship started unraveling after Perry released her poorly-received '143' album in September. 'Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album,' a source told People in June. 'It made her very stressed. Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension.' Advertisement Additional sources pointed out that the 'Fireworks' songstress and Bloom hadn't set a wedding date despite him popping the question six years ago. '[Perry and Bloom] never set a date for the wedding or got around to planning anything and Orlando is over it,' a source shared. The duo first began dating in 2016. While they briefly broke up in March 2017, they were back together by February 2018. Perry and Bloom got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019. They revealed they were expecting their first child in March 2020, with the singer giving birth to Daisy months later, on August 26. Before his relationship with the pop singer, Bloom was married to Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr from 2010 until their divorce in 2013. The actor and Kerr share one child, son Flynn, 13.
