Eight Karachiites, including two young brothers, killed in road mishaps
A water tanker hit a motorcycle, leaving two minors dead on Korangi Road near Tooba Mosque in DHA area. The deceased have been identified as Ayan and Tosif, sons of Afzal Shah, Edhi Information Bureau told Business Recorder. People set the tanker on fire following the incident.
In another incident, at least six people were killed and 12 others wounded as a speedy bus carrying picnickers from Karachi's Orangi Town area to Keenjhar Lake overturned near Makli.
When the vehicle lost control and swerved off the road, it crashed into a ditch beside the road.
The rescue services official said all six passengers who died were residents of Orangi Town. They have been identified as Arbab, 20, Basher Khan, 20, Abdul Rauf, 30, Asad, 32, Abrar and Ehsanullah.
The killed and injured were brought to Civil Hospital Thatta, where the injured are receiving medical care.
The main reason of the collision, according to officials, was overspeeding. Witnesses have said that women and children were also on the bus.
Moreover, following the conclusion of the medico-legal procedures, the bodies will be sent to Karachi.
Meanwhile heavy machinery was called in to tow away the crushed bus, as rescue officials continued to work at the scene after the tragedy.

Bahria Town auction: SC bench declines to hear case
ISLAMABAD: A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, on Wednesday, declined to hear the case of auction of Bahria Town's properties. The chief justice sent the case back to a bench, which had previously heard the case. 'It would be appropriated for the old bench to hear this case,' CJP Afridi said. Farooq H Naek, representing Bahria Town, stated he has no objection if the matter is sent back to the old bench. He; however, told that detailed verdict of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has been announced, adding that he would submit additional objections on the detailed IHC verdict related to business tycoon Malik Riaz, who established the Bahria Town empire in Pakistan. A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb on August 8, 2025, had turned down M/s Bahria Town (Private) Limited plea to halt the auction of its properties, but issued notices to the respondents. Justice Naeem questioned what the National Accountability Ordinance says about plea bargain. He noted that if an accused challenges the plea bargain process then it becomes inoperative, adding in the instant matter the accused has challenged the plea bargain, and the applications against them are pending, but the properties are being auctioned. Justice Naeem observed that instead of main petition only the Civil Miscellaneous Applications (CMAs) were fixed for hearing today (Friday), adding how come they can hear the CMAs without hearing the main petition. Naek told that he came to know about this case late at night, adding still the case is not issued on the cause list. FBR to suspend ‘uncooperative' sales taxpayer
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will suspend/ blacklist a sales taxpayer, who would refuse to allow access to its business premises for deputation of tax officers to monitor stocks, production/ clearances; etc., at manufacturing premises. According to the updated Sales Tax Rules 2006, where the Commissioner or Board has reasons to believe that the registered person is to be suspended or blacklisted, in order to ensure that the Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) follow a uniform policy for suspension and blacklisting of sales tax registered persons under section 21(2) of the Sales Tax Act and for subsequent proceedings in such cases, the following procedure shall be followed, namely:-Where a Commissioner, having jurisdiction, is satisfied that a registered person has issued fake invoices, evaded tax or committed tax fraud, registration of such person may be suspended by the Commissioner through the system, without prior notice, pending further inquiry. Sales tax payers: FBR to hold public hearings before action The basis for such satisfaction may inter alia include the following, namely: 1: Non-existence of the registered person at the given address. 2; Refusal to allow access to business premises under section 40B and 40C or refusal to furnish records under section 25 and 37 of the Sales Tax Act to an authorized Inland Revenue Officer. 3; Activity becomes five time more than sum of the capital and liabilities declared in the balance sheet. 4; Making more than 10 per cent purchases from or making 10 per cent supplies to other suspended person in the month of suspension, except suspension based in terms of clause B or value of above Rs50 million or whichever is higher. 5; Non-filing of sales tax returns for three consecutive months and null filing of sales tax returns for six consecutive months and committed any act which falls within the ambit of tax fraud, the FBR added. KP has become hub of corruption: Azma
LAHORE: Expressing grave concern over the rising tide of corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari said stated that new corruption scandals are emerging in KP almost every day. She highlighted that a massive Rs. 40 billion scam in the development sector was recently followed by a Rs. 16 billion corruption case in the education department. Azma Bokhari further revealed that a fresh scandal in the mineral department has come to light, involving the granting of gold mining contracts in five districts of KP to favoured individuals at throwaway prices. 'These so-called honest leaders have a track record of corruption that begins in the billions. Their entire legacy is based on personal gain and loot,' she remarked. The minister said that PTI's loyalists of treating KP's treasury as their inheritance, and said that not a single new development project has been launched in the province in the past one and a half years, while corruption continues to break records.
