Mathura: Objectionable photos found in phone of youth arrested over ‘provocative' online post
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar on Wednesday said he has formed a special team to investigate the matter, which has now taken a serious turn following the recovery of digital evidence.

According to police, Imran, a resident of Machhi Mandi in the Kotwali area here and an autorickshaw driver, was taken into custody on Sunday after local Hindu leaders complained about a communal and inflammatory social media post made by him on Eid.
Following his arrest, Hindu groups alleged that Imran was involved in 'love jihad' — a coinage used by right-wing activists to refer to the alleged campaign of Muslims forcing Hindu girls to convert in the guise of love.
Based on these allegations, Imran's mobile phone was sent to the cyber headquarters for forensic analysis, police said.
'Initial investigation revealed that he had written on one of his social media display pictures, 'I have more girlfriends than most people's age'. We have also found photos and videos of Hindu women in compromising situations on his mobile phone,' SSP Kumar said.
He said Imran used fake online identities to trap the women and later shared the obscene material on various platforms.
Emails have been sent to social media companies requesting dossiers of all of Imran's accounts along with associated URLs, he said.
'Based on phone records, we are trying to identify the victims and encourage them to come forward. Their identities will be kept strictly confidential and if required, counselling will be offered,' the SSP said.
Imran was allegedly active on multiple platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Police have sought detailed activity logs of the past three years from these companies as part of their investigation. PTI COR KIS DIV DIV

SC refuses more time for Congress MLA to surrender in BJP leader murder case
The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea by Karnataka Congress legislator and former minister Vinay R Kulkarni seeking an extension of time to surrender, a week after his bail was cancelled in connection with the 2016 murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yogesh Gowda. A bench of justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan declined to entertain the request made by Kulkarni's counsel, who urged the court to grant the sitting legislator at least a week's extension to comply with the June 6 order. The court remained unmoved. 'No. You surrender as per this court's order. The request is rejected,' said the bench, affirming the directive that Kulkarni must surrender within one week of the June 6 ruling. The top court had earlier cancelled the bail granted to Kulkarni after finding that he had violated its conditions by influencing key witnesses during the ongoing trial. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, presented material showing that Kulkarni had attempted to contact and influence prosecution witnesses through associates. The court said that Kulkarni's conduct undermined the sanctity of the trial. Kulkarni, the sitting MLA from Dharwad, is facing trial in connection with the murder of Gowda, a BJP leader and then Dharwad Zilla Panchayat member. Gowda was killed outside his gym in 2016 in what was alleged to be a politically motivated attack. A case under Sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was initially registered by the local police. In September 2019, the Karnataka government handed over the case to CBI, which re-registered the FIR and filed three supplementary chargesheets naming 15 accused, including Kulkarni. He was arrested by the CBI on November 5, 2020, and later granted bail by the Supreme Court in August 2021 under strict conditions. CBI moved for cancellation of his bail in December 2024, citing repeated violations of these conditions. On June 6, a separate bench of justices Sanjay Karol and Satish Chandra Sharma cancelled the bail granted to Kulkarni in August 2021, finding sufficient material to conclude that he had attempted to interfere with witnesses. 'It would suffice to state that there is sufficient material on record to suggest that attempts have been made by the respondent (Kulkarni) to either contact witnesses or alternatively, influence such witnesses,' the bench had then noted. The court's decision came on a petition filed by CBI, which submitted call records, CCTV footage and photographs to support its claim that Kulkarni had tampered with key witnesses, including a former accused-turned-approver. The agency specifically alleged that Kulkarni tried to reach out to prosecution witnesses Nagappa Bairagonde and Suresh Jagdev Hulle through intermediaries. More notably, the CBI claimed that he approached Shivanand Shreshail Biradar -- an accused who later turned approver to support the prosecution's case, to influence his deposition. The agency said Biradar retracted his earlier statement after being pressured in November 2024. The bench found the evidence credible and said that continuing Kulkarni's bail would defeat the ends of justice. 'Keeping in mind the totality of circumstances, this court is of the considered opinion that the bail granted to the respondent ought to be cancelled,' stated the June 6 order, directing Kulkarni to surrender before the trial court or jail authorities within a week. In that order, the Supreme Court also took exception to a trial court's April 25 decision refusing to cancel Kulkarni's bail on the grounds that it was granted by the apex court. The top court clarified that the sessions court was competent to entertain a plea under Section 439(2) of the CrPC to cancel bail on grounds of violation of conditions, even if the bail was originally granted by a constitutional court. It added that the August 2021 bail order had left it to the trial court to set appropriate conditions for Kulkarni's release, thus implicitly giving it the authority to oversee compliance.

Raja's Killers Planned To Kill Someone Else, Pass Off Body As Sonam's: Cops
Shillong: The killers of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi had a plan to murder any woman and burn her body to pass it as that of his wife Sonam so that she would be able to be in hiding for a few more days till the truth is known, a Meghalaya police officer said. The police also found out that Raj Kushwaha, a suspected boyfriend of Sonam, was the mastermind in the murder plot, and she is the co-conspirator. On the first day of interrogation of Sonam, Raj and three others, who were arrested in connection with the killing of the Raja Raghuvanshi, also revealed that she fled from Meghalaya in a burqa and reached the Madhya Pradesh city using various modes of transport like taxi, bus and train. "The conspiracy to eliminate Raja was hatched in Indore, shortly before his wedding with Sonam on May 11, and the mastermind is Raj while the woman had agreed to the plot," East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem told PTI. A few days after the wedding, Raja (29) and Sonam (24) had come to picturesque Sohra in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district and went missing on May 23. His body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2, while a search continued for Sonam. She emerged in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, around 1,200 km away, in the early hours of June 9 and surrendered. The police had also arrested her alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha and three others - Vishal, Akash and Anand - who, till now, were suspected to have been contract killers. "The three young people were friends, and one of them is a cousin of Raj. It was not a typical contract killing. Yes, the plan was to kill and they did it as a favour to their friend Raj," Syiem said. Raj had given them Rs 50,000 for the expenditures, he said. The planning started in February in Indore and they had thought of ways about how Sonam would disappear after the killing of Raja. "One plan was to make people believe that she would wash away by a river. Another plan was to murder any woman, burn the body and claim that it was of Sonam. However, none of the plans fructify," the police officer said. The group had come a few days before the newly-wed couple reached Assam on May 19 and they had initially planned to eliminate Raja somewhere in Guwahati. As that did not work for some reason, Sonam planned to go to Shillong and Sohra, and according to understanding, all met at Nongriat, the officer said. Syiem said they started together for Weisawdong Falls, and there all three hit Raja with a machete they bought in Assam and killed him in front of Sonam between 2 pm and 2.18 pm on May 23 before throwing the body in a gorge. Sonam gave Akash the raincoat she was wearing as his shirt had a blood spot. They left Weisawdong on scooters, and Akash threw the raincoat later as it too had blood stains. They also abandoned the two-wheeler hired by Sonam and Raja at a place, the SP said. The police recovered the raincoat and the two-wheeler when Sonam was thought to have been missing. "Raj had given Vishal a burqa which he has handed over to Sonam. She wore it, went to the Police Bazaar and took a taxi to Guwahati. From Guwahati, she reached Siliguri (in West Bengal) on a bus. From there, she took buses to go to Patna and Arah and boarded a train for Lucknow. From Lucknow, Sonam took a bus and reached Indore," he said. In the meantime, Meghalaya media interviewed a tour guide who said he had seen Sonam and Raja with three people. Raj told Sonam to leave Indore and emerge somewhere in Siliguri and claim herself as a victim of abduction. But on June 8, when Sonam had left Indore, two police teams from Meghalaya reached UP and Madhya Pradesh in civil dress. "When the first arrest (Akash) was made in UP, Raj panicked and told Sonam to call up her family and tell them she just escaped from an abduction gang. That's how this whole thing came to light in Ghazipur," Syiem said. They had thought that Raja's body would not be discovered as it was remote and the police enquiry would take one to two months. So she thought of playing the victim card. "We are recording their statements. We are questioning them. We will gather more evidence and reconstruct the crime scene," Syiem said. The officer said the police are confident to file a charge sheet in the case within the mandatory 90 days. All five were remanded to eight days of police custody on Wednesday.

AAP councillor's son gets extortion call: ‘Give Rs 1 cr or will kill you, your family'
The son of an AAP councillor in Ludhiana allegedly received an extortion call and the unidentified killer threatened to kill him and his family if he fails to pay Rs 1 crore ransom. The Ludhiana Police registered an FIR on the complaint of Gurpreet Bedi, son of AAP councillor Veeran Bedi from ward number 57. Gurpreet told police that on June 5, he received a WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller threatened to kill him and his family if he failed to pay Rs 1 crore as ransom, he said. 'I was shocked as the caller, who spoke fluent Punjabi, knew my every detail. He said he knows everything about me that what time I go for work and when I return home. Initially, I suspected some of my own employees but later we got to know that it wasn't them. It's an international number and the caller was seemingly under the influence of some drugs,' Gurpreet said. An FIR under the sections 308 (2) (extortion) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of BNS has been registered with the Sarabha Nagar police. The number from which the call came has been sent to Cyber cell for identification.
