Former Oregon Ducks WR Ryan Pellum commits to play for DeSean Jackson at Delaware State

USA Today11 hours ago
Former Oregon Ducks wide receiver Ryan Pellum has reportedly found a new home after entering the transfer portal last year and leaving Eugene.
According to On3's Pete Nakos, Pellum is transferring to Delaware State, where he will play for DeSean Jackson and the Hornets. Pellum announced his transfer back in January of this year. He was one of four wide receivers in his class to enroll at Oregon, and he was rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 145 player and No. 26 WR in the 2024 class.
As a freshman, Pellum played just 11 snaps, eight of which were on special teams.
Not long after announcing his transfer from Oregon, Pellum was arrested on charges of aggravated assault using a semi-automatic firearm and discharging a gun on Christmas night in East Long Beach that sent a man to the hospital. He pleaded not guilty to these charges.
Pellum will now be a name to know at Delaware State, where Jackson will coach his first year in 2025. In 2024, Jackson completed his first year as a football coach, working with the staff at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif. Now he is taking over an FCS school and looking to lead Delaware State to success in the MEAC. Should he be able to do that, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Jackson move up the coaching ranks and become a hot name in the FBS world.

4 must-watch Steelers ahead of preseason Week 2 vs. Buccaneers

The Steelers are gearing up for their second preseason matchup of 2025, as Pittsburgh will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 16 for another exciting dose of Steel City football. When the action kicks off this Saturday at 7:00 PM EST, here are four must-watch Steelers for fans to keep their eyes on — from last week's standout performers to rookies looking for a bounce back in preseason Week 2. QB Skylar Thompson After his terrific performance in the preseason opener, there was arguably no Steeler more befitting of kicking off this list than Thompson. Another strong performance could force the Steelers to evaluate their QB options moving forward — potentially stashing rookie QB Will Howard on IR for 2025 to open up a spot for Thompson. RB Kaleb Johnson Despite embarrassing Jaguars CB/WR Travis Hunter last week, Johnson's performance was less than ideal in the preseason opener — but who could blame the rookie third-rounder in what was his first NFL showing? Facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should give Steelers fans more to analyze moving forward, and Johnson is no doubt looking to silence the doubters this Saturday. NT Yahya Black Despite playing only 10 snaps against the Jaguars last week, Black was arguably the biggest Steelers standout on defense. Whether it was against the pass or the run, Black was a man on a mission in the opposing backfield and looks to turn in a similar performance against the Buccaneers. WR Ke'Shawn Williams Williams, who's buried on the unofficial depth chart, was clearly Thompson's favorite pass catcher from last Saturday's contest. He still faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster this season, but a strong outing versus the Buccaneers could make his case undeniable. Nebraska football closing in on naming a starting kicker for season opener

As the opening of Nebraska's 2025 college football season fast approaches, there are still several important questions to answer about the team. One of those questions is 'who will be the starting kicker on August 28?' The Huskers experienced turnover at the kicker position, which was impacted by the transfer portal. Nico Ottomanelli transferred to Sam Houston State, while Kyle Cunanan transferred into the program from the California Golden Bears. Cunanan is a touchback specialist. He tallied 21 touchbacks in 2023 and one touchback in 2024. He had 51 kickoffs with 22 touchbacks in total. The transfer is competing against sophomores John Hohl and Tristan Alvano. Last season, Hohl went 10-of-15 on field goals and 23-of-25 on extra points. Alvano only appeared in three games in 2024 due to injury and finished 3-of-4 on field goals and 12-of-12 on extra points. Special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler met with the media earlier this week and provided details on the training camp battle. 'I'll just say this, at the end of next week, we'll name a guy and we'll roll. We got a close battle right now. They've all done some nice things, and we're gonna need all three of them. It's not where you start, it's where you finish." Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT. Contact/Follow us @CornhuskersWire on X (formerly Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Nebraska news, notes, and opinions.
