Gardaí deploy stinger device in high-speed chase of cocaine-fuelled driver

Gardaí were forced to deploy a stinger device to stop a motorist under the influence of cocaine who took officers on a high-speed chase.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, July 27, Gardaí in Donegal attached to the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were on patrol conducting a crime checkpoint when they stopped one driver in the Bridgend area to do a drugs test.
The motorist tested positive for cocaine at the checkpoint, but suddenly took off at speed, driving the car in a 'dangerous manner for a distance' as Gardaí pursued. Quick-thinking officers then deployed a stinger device to bring the car to a stop.
Gardaí confirmed that the car was seized and that court would follow for the driver, who will have to apply to the court to get their car back. Gardaí confirmed the car was seized (Image: Gardaí/Facebook)
They wrote on Facebook: "Buncrana Gardaí were assisted by Buncrana Roads Policing Unit in conducting a crime checkpoint in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, July 27) in the Bridgend area.
"A driver who tested positive for cocaine at the checkpoint then decided to drive off at speed.

All Together Now organisers issue ticket warning ahead of festival

Any revellers hoping to snap up some last minute tickets for All Together Now this weekend have been warned to avoid 'unauthorised sellers' as scammers are running rampant. The hugely popular Waterford festival, which is completely sold out, will see Nelly Furtado, Fontaines D.C., CMAT and more taking to the stage over three days in Curraghmore Estate. Music lovers planning on travelling to the estate who didn't manage to snag a pass during the year are now being urged to steer clear of fraudsters taking advantage of the chaos to make a quick buck - as festival organisers reveal that they are inundated with messages about potential punters being scammed. A spokesperson for the festival said: "Festival goers are strongly advised to avoid purchasing tickets or campervan passes from unauthorised sellers. "We have received a significant number of messages from people who have been scammed when trying to buy tickets through unofficial channels, particularly through a Facebook group claiming to resell tickets for our events." Iggy Pop performs at All Together Now Festival 2023 on 6 August, 2023 in County Waterford, Ireland (Image:) Festival bosses say that official tickets will never be resold via social media pages, or in private messages, adding that anyone who buys a ticket from an unverified source is taking a "serious risk". The organisers stressed: "ATN will never sell or resell tickets via Facebook groups, social media pages, or private messages. "These scammers are professional and convincing. If you choose to buy tickets from unverified sources, you are taking a serious risk, and we cannot help recover any lost money or guarantee entry to the event." The four-day festival takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend, from July 31 until August 3, at the Curraghmore Estate in Waterford. "He called 999, told her to leave him alone and blocked her. But on April 19, he received messages asking to be unblocked and got a call from a number he did not recognise and a text message saying 'Hello. 'Do not ring the police on me again'." Andrew added: "As a result of this crime, I suffer severe anxiety and I am constantly looking behind my back. It caused me to become physically sick due to Kirsty constantly trying to contact me and also trying to get my attention. "Kirsty has been messaging my family and friends asking for my address. I am very wary of other people due to this. It will take a lot to trust anyone. "It has taken over my life. I feel I see Kirsty everywhere I go. I should not have to live like this. I feel very vulnerable. "I have to constantly watch what I am doing, and who I am talking to. I feel she is constantly trying to ruin my life." Sentencing, JP Jeffrey Dodd said: "I think everyone is in agreement that this is a really serious offence. "We have been swayed by the victim impact statement. Mother and children shot dead in Fermanagh to be buried together in Clare

A mother and her two children shot dead in Co Fermanagh are to be buried together in her home town in Co Clare. Those attending the funeral of Vanessa Whyte and her children in Barefield on Saturday have been asked to wear bright colours. Ms Whyte, 45, a vet, her son James, 14, and daughter Sara, 13, died following the same incident at a property in the Drummeer Road in Maguiresbridge on Wednesday morning. The death of the person suspected of shooting them, Ian Rutledge, 43, was announced on Monday night. It is understood the agricultural contractor is the only suspect in the shooting of his family. Ian Rutledge (Image: Facebook) Last week, police said a triple murder and attempted suicide was a line of inquiry. Funeral arrangements for Ms Whyte and her two children were announced in a social media post. The post from the funeral directors said: "Vanessa was a devoted mother, a loving and beloved daughter and sister and a loving and beloved daughter-in-law and sister-in-law." It said James was a "much-loved son, brother, and grandson" and Sara "was a dearly loved daughter, sister, and granddaughter". The funeral Mass will be held in Barefield on Saturday before the three are buried together in Templemaley Cemetery. People are asked to make donations to Women's Aid. A prayer service took place for the victims in Barefield on Sunday, following a community vigil in Maguiresbridge last Friday. A murder investigation was launched last week. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said last week that all four were members of the same household and all four suffered gunshot wounds. A photo of Vanessa Whyte and her two children at the prayer service this evening (Image: PA) On Saturday, the PSNI issued an appeal for information involving the movements of a vehicle. They have asked anyone who saw a silver Mercedes saloon car being driven in the Clones Road area of Newtownbutler, or between Maguiresbridge and Newtownbutler, on the evening of Tuesday July 22 to call detectives on 101. On Monday night, the PSNI said Mr Rutledge had been in hospital in a serious condition and died that evening. "Detectives have reiterated their appeal for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward," the police spokesperson said.
