William Byron has signed a contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports that will keep him at Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) through the 2029 season.
The 27-year-old is already a two-time winner of the Daytona 500 and currently sits second in the championship standings. When Byron won the 500, he became the youngest multi-time winner of NASCAR's crown jewel event, breaking a record previously held by HMS vice chairman Jeff Gordon.

Byron has collected 14 victories in the Cup Series and has driven for Hendrick since his Cup debut in 2018, where he also earned Rookie of the Year honors. He has made six consecutive appearances in the NASCAR Cup playoffs, making the Championship 4 in both 2023 and 2024. He's yet to win the title, but Byron has placed as high as third twice.

"We've built something special with the No. 24 team,' said Byron, who is in his eighth full-time season in the Cup Series. 'I'm thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick. We've accomplished some great things that we're really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead. I'm excited to go after them with this team and this organization.'

Added team owner Rick Hendrick: 'William is the real deal. What makes him so special is that he combines natural ability with an unrivaled work ethic. You see it in the great ones – the drivers who could get by on talent alone but choose to outwork everyone anyway. That's William. On top of it all, he's a person of high character and embraces his role as a leader. We're proud to have him in our lineup and look forward to many more wins together.'
Hendrick, the most successful team in NASCAR history, currently fields four full-time efforts in the Cup Series with Kyle Larson in the No. 5, Chase Elliott in the No. 9, Alex Bowman in the No. 48, and Byron in the No. 24.

Angel Reese responds to WNBA investigation of alleged fan abuse

Angel Reese on Tuesday praised the WNBA for taking up an investigation into alleged abuse aimed at the Chicago Sky player and the way the league and her team have had her back. The WNBA said it was investigating reports of abuse directed towards the second-year forward during Chicago's loss to the Indiana Fever on Saturday. Advertisement 'Obviously there's no place in this league for that,' Reese said during media availability on Tuesday. 'I think the WNBA and our team and our organization has done a great job supporting me.' Reese said she has received support from many people across the league following the incident and during the process of the investigation. 'Obviously it's tough, but I think I have a great support system. I'm loved by so many people and ,obviously, in the moment it is hard to hear, but my support system is great,' the 23-year-old added. 'I've gone through so many different things in the past couple of years in my life, but I think just having the support and this love, and being a part of an organization that really supports me and loves me is something I just couldn't imagine not being a part of.' Advertisement Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh gave credit to Reese with how she's dealt with the process. 'She's handled it great. I mean, for her, it's about basketball, so I think that's where her mind is at and for us we want to be as locked in as possible to our game plan and what we want to do moving forward into Thursday,' Marsh said. 'I mean, Angel's a winner. Angel's a competitor, and she wants to be there for her teammates and we're certainly there for her as well.' Reese said she has had a 'great support system' during the process of the investigation. - Grace Smith/IndyStar/Imagn Images/Reuters Marsh added that all those at the franchise will be behind the star second-year player. 'I think that we always want to be there to support each other no matter what we're going through in our personal lives or professional lives. It's the kind of environment that we want to create here. It's who we want to be as individuals and who we want to be as teammates.' Advertisement The WNBA said after the alleged incident that it 'strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms,' while the Fever said they are helping the league with the investigation. Indiana's star guard Caitlin Clark issued a similar message after a Fever practice on Monday. 'There's no place for that in our game, there's no place for that in society,' Clark, the 2024 Rookie of the Year, told reporters after practice on Monday. 'Certainly, we want every person who comes into our arena, whether player or fan, to have a great experience,' Clark added. 'I appreciate the league doing that (the investigation). I appreciate that the Fever organization has been at the forefront of that since day one. The investigation we'll leave up to them to find anything and take the proper action if so.' Bruins legend explains how winning Stanley Cup with different team broke Boston's championship curse

The Bruins traded Ray Bourque to the Colorado Avalanche in March 2000 in order to allow him to win a Stanley Cup before his career was over. He did just that a year later in 2001. But in doing so, he also helped the city of Boston break its championship curse. Advertisement During an appearance on Julian Edelman's 'Games With Names' podcast, Bourque revealed that the string of Boston teams winning titles came after he brought the Stanley Cup to Boston to celebrate with his former fanbase at City Hall. 'What happened after that — the Patriots win in New Orleans," he said. 'And then, from that point on, the Pats win two out of three (Super Bowls), the (86-year) curse is broken with the (Red Sox), the Celtics win, the Bruins win, the Patriots keep winning, the Red Sox win again. 'It all started after the Cup came back to Boston.' Bourque was hesitant to return to Boston — the city he spent 21 years of his career in. After the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup, the late Mayor Thomas Menino's office called Bourque's agent to see if he wanted to celebrate at City Hall. Advertisement Bourque said no because he didn't want to embarrass the Bruins. But then-general manager Mike O'Connell was OK with it. The Celtics are the most recent men's Boston team to win a championship — having done so just last summer. Perhaps history will repeat itself this year for a former Bruins captain. The Bruins traded their captain, Brad Marchand, in March to the Florida Panthers so he could make another run at winning a Cup. The difference between Bourque — who was also Boston's captain at time of his trade — and Marchand, is that Marchand already a Cup to his name. The Panthers are looking to repeat as champs, whereas the Edmonton Oilers are looking to get revenge in a rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Final that saw Florida hoist the Cup. Mock draft has Bruins taking ‘cerebral center' at No. 7

The Boston Bruins have a big decision to make next month with the seventh pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. While the prospect class isn't as strong as it's been in year's past, the Bruins still have the opportunity to bolster their team — particularly at the center position. Advertisement The Athletic's Corey Pronman released his mock draft on Tuesday and has the Bruins doing just that by selecting Jake O'Brien. 'O'Brien is a cerebral, playmaking center with top-line upside,' Pronman wrote. 'His skill and vision are clear NHL traits and address Boston's massive need for a center who can drive play and create offense.' O'Brien, 17, plays for the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League and was the OHL's Rookie of the Year last season after he led all rookies with 64 points in 61 games. 'His edge work is elite. His shot's elite. His stickhandling ability in complicated drills and taking pucks off the wall,' O'Brien's skills coach, Dan Sisca told The Athletic in a March interview. 'No matter who he is skating with, whether he's skating with NHL players now or other OHL players, his skill set in a skills session is like a wow factor.' Advertisement The Bruins have struggled at the center position since Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retired in 2023. They signed Elias Lindholm last offseason, but a back injury hindered him throughout the season. Boston then traded Charlie Coyle — who was a staple at center on the third line — to the Colorado Avalanche at the deadline. More Bruins content Read the original article on MassLive.
