₹5.41 lakh! Shubman Gill's signed jersey fetches massive sum in auction; Rishabh Pant's cap fetches over a lakh
Shubman Gill's match-worn and signed India Test jersey from the Lord's Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has fetched ₹5.41 lakh (around £4,600) at the Budds auction, making it the highest-selling item among those dedicated to the Red For Ruth charity this year.
The auction featured memorabilia from players of both India and England, including signed shirts, caps, bats, portraits, and hospitality tickets. Gill's shirt, worn during the second Test of the 2-2 drawn series, was described on the auction site as 'a rare collector's item… unwashed and match-worn, showing visible signs of wear,' highlighting his rising stature as one of India's brightest stars. The 25-year-old was also the leading run-scorer in the series.

Among other Indian items, jerseys signed by Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were the joint second-highest sellers in this category, going for £4,200 (₹4.94 lakh) each. KL Rahul's signed jersey followed at £4,000 (₹4.70 lakh). For caps, Rishabh Pant's signed headgear fetched the highest bid for India at £1,500 (₹1.76 lakh).
From the England camp, Joe Root's signed jersey brought in £3,800 (₹4.47 lakh), while captain Ben Stokes' fetched £3,400 (₹4 lakh).

All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey on Sunday (August 10, 2025) sought to attribute the national men's team's slide in the FIFA chart to a 'complex and fluctuating' nature of the ranking system but expressed hope for a turnaround with wins over teams placed higher in the list. The Indian team slumped to its lowest ranking in nine years as it dropped six places to 133rd in the FIFA chart issued on July 10. 'FIFA ranking is based on historical performance of a national team in the international matches played in the preceding years. It is determined using the Elo Model. This method adds or subtracts points for matches to or from a team's existing total point,' Mr. Chaubey said. 'As you understand the formula for calculating this ranking, you will realise it fluctuates year on year. It depends on the number of matches the team plays and the ranking of the opponent. In 2023, we moved to 99 from 106 when I took charge, and now in 2025, from 99 we have gone down to 133,' he added. After winning three tournaments in 2023, the Indian team moved inside top 100 at 99th place in July 2023 rankings, but from there the slide began. From 102nd in December 2023, the team dropped down to 117th after losing to Australia, Uzbekistan and Syria during the AFC Asian Cup in January 2024. 'The losses against very strong teams like Australia and Uzbekistan in the Asian Cup led to the national team losing a lot of places in the rankings,' Mr. Chaubey said. 'Of course, the less-than-satisfactory performance in subsequent matches did not help the team but it was not that bad. We lost five matches out of 12, including one against formidable Qatar, after the Asian Cup. We won one and drew six. 'I am hoping that the team will rise again if it does well in the CAFA Nations Cup and the remaining Asian Cup qualifying round matches.' Mr. Chaubey, a former India goalkeeper, also mentioned India's beginning from the bottom of the chart when the FIFA first published it in December 1992. 'FIFA first published ranking in December 1992, and India was ranked 143rd. So, from day one, India's FIFA ranking was 143 out of 211 member countries. Thereafter, India went down to 173 in 2015 and then rose to 97 in 2018,' he said. 'India's best ranking was 94 in February 1996, much before the NFL kicked off.' He said that the popularity of club football in the country does not reflect in the national team's FIFA rankings from the beginning to now. 'Between 1970-1995 and 1996-2013, Indian football has seen growth through private investment and increasing fan engagement in club tournaments like Durand Cup, Rovers Cup, IFA Shield, Stafford Cup or Bordoloi Trophy and later in NFL/I-League,' he said. 'After 2014 (start of ISL) till now, we have seen more development and popularity in club football through ISL by the involvement of Reliance, TATA, JSW, Goenka, Emami, Star India etc. They played a pivotal role in shaping a new era. 'Over the last decade, Indian football has seen remarkable progress, including the upliftment of stadium infrastructure, improvement in club professionalism and quality of play, enhanced logistical support for players with better pay scales, and world-class production/broadcasting-making it one of the most viewed leagues in Asia. 'So, club football significantly grew in India, and we can say today ISL is one of the most viewed leagues in Asia but that did not reflect in the national team. I would say most of the investment had gone to the club football than a national team's development.' Talking about the way forward, he said, 'All the stakeholders of Indian football need better coordination to ensure that adequate investment is put in youth development so that India qualify in the U17 World Cup on merit. 'Other option is to get an amendment through Govt. policies so that the men's national team also gets naturalised players. The AIFF expresses gratitude to the Sports Ministry for providing an option in the proposed Sports Bill to include OCI/PIO players. 'However, this provision alone is not sufficient for the Indian football team, as per FIFA Statutes, to allow naturalised players to represent the national team. Nonetheless, we believe that with collective efforts, the AIFF will continue its discussions with the competent authority,' he said.

Prema Rawat, Radha Yadav Grab Three Wickets Each But India A Lose Final T20 To Australia A
Poor execution with the bat undid India A's superb bowling performance as Australia A made a clean sweep of three-match unofficial Women's T20 series, defeating the visitors by four runs in a thrilling match at Mackay, Australia on Sunday. Chasing a gettable 144/8 set by the hosts, India's middle and lower-order batters failed miserably to be restricted to 140/8 after leg spinner Prema Rawat and left-armer Radha Yadav gave their team the best chance in the series by grabbing three wickets apiece. This was Rawat's second three-wicket haul in the multi-format series and it prepared the platform for the batters, led by Shafali Verma, to make a match of it. Shafali finally fired after successive single-digit scores in the previous two games at the same venue but her 41-run contribution (25 balls) was not good enough on the day as she perished to young Brisbane Heat pacer Sianna Ginger, who emerged the wrecker-in-chief for the home team by taking four wickets for just 18 runs. India shuffled its top order a bit by sending Dinesh Vrinda to open with Shafali, instead of keeper-batter Uma Chetry, who came in at one-down. However, the experiment failed as Vrinda perished for just four runs and Chetry followed her back into the dressing room soon after as India A were reduced to 16/2. Shafali and Raghvi Bist (25) forged a 43-run stand for the third wicket before the former departed, bringing in India A's spin-bowling all-rounder Minnu Mani at the crease. The 48-run stand between Bist and Mani saw India A get past the 100-run mark, raising hopes of a consolation win. But those hopes were dashed when the Bist was also consumed by Ginger, leaving the visitors at 107/4. Her dismissal, it seemed, took the fight out of the India A side as it lost wickets in a heap, with the likes of national team stalwart Radha Yadav (12), Tanuj Kanwar (1), all-rounder Sajeevan Sajana (3) going in quick succession as the visitors lost the plot in the last over, when they had to score 15 runs. In fact, Ginger took two wickets, that of Radha and Sajana, in the 19th over to make things virtually impossible for India A. Australia A, following their 114-run win in the previous game, were challenged by the Indian spinners, who opened up a window of opportunity by bowling impeccable line and length. Batting stalwart Alyssa Healy departed for 27 after a dazzling 70-run innings in the last game before Prema and Radha ran through the top and middle-order. Prema, who had taken three wickets in the opener, was the most destructive, getting rid off prolific young run-getter Anika Learoyd (22) early besides Courtney Webb (1) and the dangerous Madeline Penna (39) as Australia A were restricted to a below-par score. The three-match unofficial one-day series will commence in Brisbane on Wednesday.

And it was triggered by a Dainik Jagran report, which indicated that Kohli and Rohit could draw curtains on their ODI career in the tour of Australia in October this year. If they wish to prolong their career until 2027, the report revealed, they would need to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's domestic List A tournament, to stay match-ready and in contention for selection. The BCCI's domestic participation condition, the report suggested, might prompt the duo to retire. However, a BCCI source privy to the developments told PTI on condition of anonymity that the Indian board is least bothered about Kohli and Rohit's future now, as they are completely focused on the upcoming Asia Cup and the preparations for the T20 World Cup next year. "Obviously, if they (Rohit and Kohli) have something in mind, they would tell the BCCI brass like they did before the England Test tour. But from an Indian team's perspective, the next big assignment is the T20 World Cup in February and preparations before that. The immediate focus will be on sending the best team for the Asia Cup T20 tournament, hoping all players are fit and available," the source said. The report further stated that the BCCI would never make a decision of this nature hastily, especially given the significant public interest surrounding the two players. The PTI report also dispelled media rumours about the BCCI offering them a farewell game in Sydney on October 25. A BCCI source familiar with the matter confirmed that no such discussions have taken place so far. Kohli and Rohit last played for the Indian team in the Champions Trophy earlier this year in the UAE, where India won the title. However, neither has played competitive cricket since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League.
