Breakthrough chromite discovery by Catalyst Mines in Morocco's Amasine project

Ya Biladi24-04-2025

Canadian minerals exploration company Catalyst Mines Inc. has announced significant trenching results at its Amasine Project in the Siroua region of Morocco, revealing one of the most important chromite discoveries in recent years.
Sampling in Spring 2025 showed chromium concentrations across the trenches. Cobalt and nickel anomalies were also identified, according to a press release from the company on Wednesday.
«The scale and grade of the chromite mineralization at the surface positions this project as a serious contender in the global critical minerals supply chain», said CEO Tyler Burpee. He added that the project aligns with the growing global demand for strategic metals used in clean energy and defense.
The chromite is found in serpentinite rock, with both massive and dispersed mineralization. The discovery closely resembles the Bou Azzer mine in Morocco. Technical advisor Prof. Mustapha El Gorphi called the Amasine system «a geological system in Morocco with global implications».
Catalyst Mines estimates over 609 million tonnes of ore with a preliminary in-ground value exceeding $60 billion. A 4,000-meter, 20-hole drill campaign is currently underway to confirm vertical continuity. The company is also moving forward with metallurgical studies, 3D modeling, and NI 43-101 resource estimates.

Aya Gold & Silver Secures $25 Million EBRD Loan for Morocco Mining Expansion

Rabat — Aya Gold & Silver has received final approval from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a $25 million secured credit facility. The Canadian company will use this funding to develop the Boumadine polymetallic project and strengthen its financial flexibility as part of its expansion strategy in Morocco. CEO Benoit La Salle said this financial support reflects its strong fundamentals and the renewed confidence of its partners. The EBRD, which has worked with Aya for ten years, commended the progress made at the Zgounder mine and recognized Boumadine's potential, pointing out the company's commitment to sustainable mining practices. The two-year loan is structured with a bullet repayment and a 5% interest margin. The deal remains subject to finalizing definitive agreements and meeting standard regulatory conditions. In its Zgounder silver mine in Morocco, the company is making significant progress in operating results. As of April, the Canadian mining company has confirmed the growing strength of its primary mining site, reporting significantly improved performance. Since the beginning of 2025, the company's silver production at the site has jumped 64%. This rate reflects the significant advancement in the company's performance. Aya Gold asserts ongoing operational improvements driven by steady activity at the site and exceptional performance from the processing plant. In January, the company announced it plans to invest an additional $50 million in Morocco over the coming years. Morocco produced roughly 8.8 million ounces of silver in 2023, ranking 15th globally as a producer of the precious metal and positioning itself as an increasingly visible player in the international silver market. Aya Gold & Silver Sees Strong Results at Morocco's Zgounder Silver Mine

Rabat — Aya Gold & Silver continues to build momentum at its Zgounder silver mine in Morocco. The Canadian mining company reported significantly improved operating results for April, confirming the growing strength of its primary mining site. Silver production at the Zgounder mine has jumped 64% since the beginning of the year, marking an important milestone in the company's performance. Aya Gold asserts ongoing operational improvements driven by steady activity at the site and exceptional performance from the processing plant. 'Our fundamentals are strong and results are meeting expectations: mining production has increased 64% since January,' the company's CEO and President Benoît La Salle said. 'We're already seeing improved recovery rates, and April's performance reinforces our confidence in our strategy to optimize ore processing and strengthen our cash generation.' Several strategic actions are currently underway to maximize production capacity at the site, with the company bringing in a specialized contractor to quickly restore full capacity to the oxygen production unit, a critical component for optimizing precious metal recovery rates. At the same time, the company has begun working directly with the equipment supplier to accelerate long-term improvements. The company's efforts are already showing results, as initial tests on the plant's residues confirm the technical parameters defined in the feasibility study, giving the company increased visibility on meeting its performance targets. Aya Gold remains confident that it could maintain this positive momentum and achieve its forecasts for 2025, especially as the company's April solid production represents a major step toward regular and sustainable industrial performance. Zgounder site is a strategic project that positions Morocco as an increasingly visible player in the international silver market. Catalyst Mines Reports Exceptional Chromium Results in Morocco's Amasine Project

Doha – Catalyst Mines Inc. has announced outstanding results from its Spring 2025 trench sampling campaign at the Amasine Project in Morocco's Siroua region. The findings confirm high-grade chromium mineralization alongside significant cobalt and nickel anomalies. The exploration revealed chromium concentrations peaking at 270,350 ppm, with an average of 10,880 parts per million (ppm) across sampled trenches. Nickel values averaged 1,481 ppm, reaching up to 3,719 ppm, while cobalt values averaged 102 ppm, with highs of 304 ppm. 'These trenching results are nothing short of exceptional,' said Tyler Burpee, CEO of Catalyst Mines Inc., in a recent statement. 'The scale and grade of the chromite mineralization at the surface positions this project as a serious contender in the global critical minerals supply chain.' The chromite mineralization occurs in both massive and disseminated forms, primarily hosted in serpentinite matrices, a geological context favorable for large-scale, open-pit mining. The company estimates that the Amasine project includes 609 million tons of serpentinite-hosted ore, with a preliminary in-ground value exceeding $60 billion. Mustapha El Gorphi, technical advisor to the project and former chief geologist of the neighboring Bou Azzer mine, stated, 'This is a geological system in Morocco with global implications.' 'The chromite textures and associated cobalt-nickel signatures bear strong similarities to Morocco's most productive critical mineral districts, with even greater surface expression at Amasine,' he added. The current exploration phase includes an aggressive 20-hole, 4,000-meter drill campaign focused on confirming vertical continuity of the identified anomalies and delineating mineral resources. The company is utilizing advanced GIS-integrated geological modeling and high-resolution sampling methods to support this effort. Catalyst Mines has positioned itself as a first mover in Morocco's mining sector, establishing a corporate presence that allows it to acquire secure and geologically viable land positions focused on cobalt geology. Unlike many countries in the MENA region, Morocco lacks crude oil reserves but possesses rich mineral deposits, including phosphates, lead, fluorite, and antimony. The company's focus on cobalt aligns with growing global demand, particularly in battery production for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. By 2026, battery applications are projected to account for 61% of global cobalt demand, up from current levels. Morocco's mining sector has become increasingly attractive to international investors. The Fraser Institute ranks Morocco as the #1 investment destination in Africa and #16 globally for mining, ahead of Ontario, British Columbia, and Finland. The North African country's strategic location and free trade agreements with the US and EU further enhance its appeal for critical minerals development. Catalyst Mines' next steps include commencing drill testing of high-priority chromite zones, conducting detailed metallurgical analysis and 3D resource modeling, and advancing toward NI 43-101 compliant resource estimation and scoping studies.
