Need to increase capacity of govt-run Victoria Hospital: CM
The CM interacted with the patients, including a few from Bihar. 'People from across the country come to Victoria Hospital. There is overcrowding. So there is a need to increase its capacity,' Siddaramaiah told reporters.
The CM said that he has asked the medical team to treat patients with compassion. 'Since people are getting free treatment here, there will be too much pressure on the doctors. I have told them to be patient,' Siddaramaiah said.He further said that he had given strict instructions that no one should take even a rupee from patients. 'I noticed that liver transplant in private hospitals costs about Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, but here it is done free of cost. The demand is to increase the capacity,' Siddaramaiah said.
According to the CM, presently there are 120 beds available in the gastroenterology department. There is a proposal to make it a 300-bed facility, which the government will consider, he added. Siddaramaiah said during his interaction, patients told him that the doctors took good care of them and proper food was given to them. When reporters highlighted that private ambulance drivers are running a racket here since government ambulances are not available, Siddaramaiah said by dailing 108 people can avail the government service.

Malnutrition shadow on WCD minister Nirmala Bhuria's backyard Malwa-Nimar
Bhopal: Fresh data from the Centre has placed three districts from the state's Malwa-Nimar belt, home turf of state women and child development minister Nirmala Bhuria, among the 10 worst-affected in the country for child malnutrition. Figures tabled in the Lok Sabha on July 25 show that 42.54% of children attending anganwadis in Dhar are underweight, ranking it third in the country. Khargone (formerly West Nimar) follows with 36.19%, and Barwani with 36.04%. The findings underscore a grim irony: the state's WCD minister hails from this very region. Bhuria, who is from Petlawad in Jhabua district, leads the state's nutrition drive while the crisis remains most acute in her own political backyard. Nationally, Nandurbar in Maharashtra tops the list with 48.26% underweight children, followed by West Singhbhum in Jharkhand (44.80%). Dhar ranks third, with Khargone and Barwani also in the top 10. The data highlights Madhya Pradesh's disproportionate share of the national malnutrition burden. Madhya Pradesh received Rs 4,364.69 crore between 2021-22 and 2024-25. When contacted, Bhuria said: "We are regularly monitoring the data and initiating several innovative interventions. As a pilot in Jhabua district, we launched a drive named 'Motihai' (Badi Maa in the local language). At every anganwadi, a woman was deployed to massage the kids and provide traditional nutrition. We prepared files for each child who needed care, and even children migrating with their parents are being tracked. This innovation has given very good results in Jhabua. We will be initiating such initiatives in other districts like Dhar, Khargone, Barwani, and wherever such interventions are required." PK alleges ambulance ‘scam', minister hits back
Patna: Poll strategist-turned-political activist Prashant Kishor on Friday levelled serious corruption charges against state health minister Mangal Pandey and state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal, alleging irregularities in the purchase of over 1,200 ambulances and a quid pro quo involving a medical college. Pandey, in turn, dismissed the allegations as baseless, insisting that a loan cited by Kishor had been fully repaid. Addressing a press conference in Patna, Kishor claimed that in 2022, the health department issued a tender for 1,000 advanced life support ambulances at Rs 19.58 lakh each, yet two years later bought 222 more at Rs 27.47 lakh apiece, higher than rates in Odisha (Rs 16 lakh) and Uttar Pradesh (Rs 12 lakh). He alleged that the contracted manufacturer failed to meet the requirement of having service centres in every district, except in a few cases. Kishor further alleged that Pandey granted "deemed university" status to a medical college in Kishanganj, where Jaiswal allegedly has major stakes, in exchange for a "large money transaction".
