Honolulu Mayor to give State of the City Address
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Bold plans in the city's agenda will be shared during Mayor Rick Blangiardi's State of the City Address on March 18.
'If people are worried about permitting or driver's license or tow contracts, stream cleaning, wastewater fees, those are all things that affect all of us. Those are the kind of things that we're hoping to hear in the State of the City,' stated Councilmember Andria Tupola.

In a statement, the Mayor's Office said the city will share major announcements on housing, skyline, Emergency Medical Services and Ocean Safety.
'I think everyone is excited to hear about this next segment of rail that is actually projected to open before the end of this year,' Tupola said. 'But also, I know that on the horizon, they're trying to figure out what to do with EMS, whether they merged that with [Honolulu Fire Department] because they've been having significant shortfalls.'City councilmembers hope the mayor will mention other issues like the new landfill location and waste water fee increases.
'We heard recently that they were proposing an integrated planning, which could possibly help us bring that cost down for the wastewater increase,' Tupola said. 'I'm hoping they might say a little bit about how we might pivot off and not have to increase it as much.'
According to the Mayor's office, the speech will include major accomplishments directly impacting communities.
The State of the City Address is slated for March 18 in the Mission Memorial Auditorium at 6 p.m. It will be livestreamed on the mayor's Facebook page and YouTube Channel. It will also be aired live on KHII.

Alabama law authorizes emergency care and transport for police K9s
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama is providing more services for Police K9s throughout the state. HB 366, authorizes emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to provide medical care and transportation to police dogs injured in the line of duty. The bill also known as the 'Lakyn Canine Act,' will ensure injured police K9s receive the same emergency medical care and transportation as their human partners. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Rick Rehm (R-Dothan), also allows K9s to be transported by ambulance or helicopter to emergency veterinary care. Additionally, the bill will protect emergency medical personnel from potential liability arising from offering critical medical care in good faith to a police dog. 'Police K9s are more than working dogs; they're loyal partners, fearless protectors and like family,' said Debbie Johnson, president and founder of K9s United. 'They charge into danger without hesitation to protect their communities, and they deserve the same urgent, life-saving care as any human officer. Passing this law is one of our proudest moments, and we are deeply grateful to Governor Ivey and Representative Rehm for standing with us to ensure Alabama's K9 heroes receive the care they've earned through their service and sacrifice.' 'The Laykn Canine Act honors our police K9s and recognizes their vital role in protecting our communities with unwavering loyalty,' said Rep. Rick Rehm. 'By ensuring EMS personnel can provide emergency care without fear of liability, we're closing a dangerous gap and guaranteeing these brave dogs get the same urgent attention any hero deserves. The recent enactment of the new law isn't so new, our neighbors in Florida also have a similar bill in place that was signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2021. Huber Heights announces plans for new music venue, hotel, restaurant
HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) — During his State of the City address, Mayor Jeff Gore revealed plans for several new developments in Huber Heights. Mayor Gore announced three major developments coming to the city in the next few years. Walls installed at Huber Heights Buc-ee's site First, a new indoor music venue will be coming to Executive Boulevard. The 56,000 square foot 'cutting edge performance space' will be able to accommodate 3,500 guests for a variety of events and shows. The venue is estimated to open in 2028. Additionally, a new hotel will open adjacent to the venue, featuring two restaurants within. Gore says the venue and hotel will further establish an entertainment district for Huber Heights, offering 'a dynamic hub for conferences, expos, and special events.' Finally, Dublin Pub will open a new location, Dublin Seven, offering upscale Irish cuisine, live music and more. This restaurant will also be located within the entertainment district. Mayor Gore says these announcements are a major step forward for Huber Heights. 'These announcements are all wonderful signs of our momentum, and each represent the kind of city that we're building together,' said Gore. 'One that values connection, celebrates progress and plans boldly for our future.'
