Remarkable ending after dog's 'little adventure' on Aussie bus
This is what happened on Tuesday when an American Staffordshire Terrier named Athena was spotted travelling between Sans Souci in Sydney's south and Kogarah Station. The three-year-old dog rode the bus for over 15 minutes, with travellers delighted — and baffled — by the perfectly content pet joining them for the almost 4km journey.
"She got off at the train station with the intention of catching a train somewhere," a Sydney Dogs & Cat Home (SDCH) spokesperson told Yahoo News. "She seemed very familiar with the area, like she'd done that route with her owner before. She was very confident."
After making her way through the train station and sitting at the platform, train staff stopped her — with the spokesperson joking to Yahoo she clearly "hadn't paid for travel".

Train staff notified the local council, who in turn reached out to SDCH, and Athena was taken to the shelter.
"She was full of joy and excitement in her little parker [jacket]," the spokesperson explained. "She's adorable."
Beloved dog enjoys her own 'adventure' while owner is overseas
The details in Athena's microchip weren't up-to-date, but thankfully, SDCH was able to track down her owners, who are currently overseas. A relative was tasked with looking after her while they were away, however, the curious dog slipped away while their back was turned.
"She's clearly loved and looked after," the spokesperson said.
The shelter confirmed to Yahoo that it has made plans for Athena to be collected by the owner's relative on Thursday.
"Athena's just gone for a little adventure," the spokesperson said.
Who can blame her.

Council's plan for new driver charge as Aussie tourist town being 'loved to death'
Motorists could soon be charged to drive through one of Australia's busiest beach towns after its surge in popularity in recent years has left roads congested and parking options scarce, with the local council hoping the proposed fees will act as a deterrent to tourists. Queensland's Noosa Heads has long been a popular holiday destination, and during peak times roads such as Hastings Street on the beachfront can quite literally come to a standstill. These traffic jams have irked locals, who have pushed the council for a solution, and Noosa Shire Council has been consulting on plans to introduce a charge for those travelling in congestion-prone hotspots. It is unclear how much the congestion fee would be or how it would be collected. However, there are suggestions that toll booths would be installed along the road where drivers would have to stop and pay, or drivers could pay via a tag in their car, most likely on weekends and school holidays to begin with. More paid parking would also be introduced in busy areas, with lower costs for residents, and more transport infrastructure would be introduced to deter tourists from driving their cars along busy roads. The Destination Management Plan (DMP) claimed the town is "being loved to death" and the council acknowledged that it has to step in to mitigate the issues caused by tourists, while also accommodating them. Authorities are now urging the public to provide feedback on the DMP, and have until September to do so. If given the green like, it will be the first congestion road charge of its kind in Australia. It's proved a successful idea in cities overseas such as New York which introduced congestion pricing on certain roads in January this year. 😲 Council warns against common beach act in popular Aussie tourist town 👀 Family reveals the 'uncomfortable truth' about travelling full-time 🐊 Alarm raised after rare sighting at major Aussie tourist hotspot Vehicle recognition technology could be introduced to help The council has proposed introducing vehicle recognition technology on its roads to help determine whether cars are owned by locals or are simply travelling through. This would be used to ensure residents aren't copping the brunt of the proposed changes. Professor Matthew Burke from Griffith University previously told Yahoo News that congestion charges for tourists is "not a new idea" as several towns in the UK and Europe have them. When asked if he thinks it would be appropriate for Noosa, Professor Burke said that "it's not illogical". "[It would] free up that strip and discourage people from heading in and causing congestion to everyone else," he said. Illegal camping continues to put pressure on beach town While many coastal regions across the country have been grappling with illegal camping, Noosa in particular has been overrun with travellers sleeping overnight in car parks. The issue has become so significant that the council announced $333 fines will be issued to anyone caught illegally camping along the Peregian Esplanade or at Victory Park along Lorikeet Drive. The rules were introduced on July 24, with 50 fines handed out during two weeks in the area. Do you have a story tip? MBTA to offer late-night weekend service on subways, certain bus routes in Boston area
The MBTA will soon be adding late-night weekend service to subway lines, as well as popular bus routes in the Boston area. Starting Aug. 24, service will be extended by about an hour on all subway lines, as well as eight frequent bus routes, on Friday and Saturday nights. Some bus routes will have later service seven nights a week, and certain ferries will also run later, the T said. "We have been able to get to the point where we've improved our system, we've built up the workforce, where we can now strategically add extended service on our subway system," MBTA General Manager Phil Eng told the agency's Board of Directors on Tuesday. Right now, subway trains make their final stops between midnight and 1 a.m. on the weekends. Eng said extending service at night will help businesses and people who work late. The MBTA is also going fare-free after 9 p.m. for five consecutive Friday and Saturday nights, starting Sept. 5 through Oct. 4. "We're doing this within our operational budget," Eng said. "It is super exciting." The Red, Orange, Blue, Green and Mattapan Lines will all see nearly an hour of extended service on Friday and Saturday nights. Bus routes 1, 22, 39, 66, 110, SL1, SL3 and SL5 will also run about an hour later on Friday and Saturday nights. The busy Route 23, 28, 57, 111 and 116 bus lines will have an extra hour of service every night of the week, the MBTA said. On the water, the Hingham/Hull ferries will run an hour later on Friday evenings. Service is being extended to 10 p.m. on the Charlestown and East Boston ferries on Friday and Saturday evenings.
