Chloe Petts: the 10 funniest things I have ever seen (on the internet)
You know when you're at a party and there is someone who you're really into, and even when you're not in conversation with them, you have this tangible sense in your body of where they are at any given moment, because you can feel this frisson, a spark imperceptibly flowing between you? That's how I feel about my phone. I always know where that little guy is and I can't wait until I need a wee so I can take my couple of minutes on the toilet and catch up on all the scrolling I've missed.
It's pathetic, really. Though I try not to blame myself, because the internet is a tool that has been engineered to make us come back for more. I would simply adore to have a better relationship to scrolling – replacing the pre-bed hour with reading something enriching like the Guardian. But I don't wish to forgo it entirely, because I would miss out on all of the funny stuff that scratches a brain itch in a way that very few other mediums can. With that in mind, here are my top 10 funniest videos on the internet.
I didn't mean for these to be ranked in order but, if they were, this one would absolutely come in at No 1. I've watched this video maybe 30 times and every time I laugh like it's the first time. It's the best in the Sprite challenge genre and, believe me, I've put in the research. It's so puerile, but the patheticalness of her sigh before the earth-shattering burp will never fail to render me floored. One of the greatest pieces of culture that's come out of Australia.

I love it when kids are weird in the way that only kids can be – this will become a heavy feature in this list. This video works because of the camera angle, the lighting, the child's dead-eyed stare into the distance, the timing of her proclamation that Martha Luker King Junior died for our sins, and the hard cut after the adults off camera start pissing themselves. In film and TV writing there's this idea that you should enter a scene as late as possible and leave it as soon as possible. This theory is executed perfectly here. A masterpiece.

I think this little guy is the cutest and is probably my most quoted man from the internet. I no longer say 'thank you' – I say 'sank you'. Shout out to @recesstherapy, which is putting out the sweetest and most life-affirming content out there.
I probably should have some standup on this list given my profession and I think this is one of the first routines I ever saw where I thought, 'Woah, this is mindblowing'. Izzard juxtaposes sci-fi with the banal, putting a totally recognisable day-to-day scene in an absurd but also recognisable context. It's got so many brilliant, well-observed lines in it ('You're Mr Stevens?', 'Did you dry these in a rainforest?') and the fact that it keeps going on for so long creates the cumulative feeling of euphoria. Superbly performed. An education for a standup.

For me, Sean McLoughlin is the best in the business at the moment and I wanted to put his whole standup special Hail Mary in this article but it's 52 minutes long so I recommend you go and check it out yourself. Instead I've chosen one of my favourite clips of Sean's, which is both funny and thematically relevant to an article about the internet.

This will not go where you expect it to. It's the one and only thing that makes me proud to be British.

All my mates say that I'm like this little boy and I don't think they're wrong. We can't stop saying 'get in' and pumping our fists after any mildly good piece of news now. Shoutout to the mum who's doing such good mumming.
This little girl is one of the OGs of Vine (RIP); her output was absolutely insane. From 'I smell like beef' to 'it's frickin bats', Ava Ryan never missed. This is a compilation of some of her best.
My friends showed me this video at uni and it began my love affair with Kristen Wiig who, for me, very rarely failed on SNL. I could have chosen the Chicken Man sketch or any of her Target Lady skits, but Dooneese was the original so I had to honour that. It's so, so silly and they play it so beautifully straight.
I simply must end my list with another kid saying the darndest thing. If this little girl isn't a global superstar in the next 10 years, then there's no justice in this world. She has style, charisma and timing in equal measure.

Shea Mannings is a 25-year-old Bristolian and will be one of the three new faces to be added to the villa in the same number of days since the show started, and will throw a new element of drama to the reality show. Before going on Love Island, he balanced two jobs, mainly working as a scaffolder day-to-day as well as playing football semi-professionally on the side. The 25-year-old has played for Swindon Supermarine FC since signing in 2024 and will be the third semi-pro baller in the villa this year after Dejon Noel-Williams and Harry Cooksley. In his career so far he has played for Southern League Division One South side Bristol Manor Farm in 2023, and before that he represented Ashton & Backwell in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. Advertisement Alongside his two jobs, Shea has a son, who he will not be keeping a secret. Before entering the villa, he said: "I have a little boy, so I'll be taking him into consideration with who I couple up with, too.' While his Instagram bio says that he is 'off to find love in the Love Island Villa', what is Shea looking for in a potential coupling? He said: "She needs to be bubbly and we need to have that initial spark. She needs to have a nice personality - like I think I have - so that we match together.' Advertisement His Insta followers can often see him enjoying life in hotter climates and either working out or in action on the football pitch. And in comparison to some of his fellow Islanders, Shea is pretty quiet on social media, sharing only the highlights of his life and matches to his just over 6,000 followers. SECOND Love Islander is dumped in brutal bombshell recoupling What will Shea be like in the villa? Shea forms part of the two bombshell line-up with Remell Mullins and came into the villa just days after American pool party waitress Toni Laites shook up the villa on the first day. The Islanders were left stunned after Toni strutted into the villa and stole Shakira Khan's man, Ben Holbrough. Advertisement It meant Shakira had to find a new couple and in a shock twist caused the early exit of motivational speaker Sophie Lee after recoupling with Harry Cooksley. But with the arrival of Shea and Remell, it is the girls' time to be tempted and stray from their couples. Before entering the show Shea said: "I am ready again to look for something more serious. I'm 25 now, so I want to be settling down and have someone always by my side." A source told The Sun: "The two new boys are already in the villa and immedietely started turning heads. Advertisement "The OG lads thought they were safe but three bombshells in three days shows that producers aren't messing around." Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Tom Fletcher forced to apologise for ‘insensitive' post about his flight after devastating Air India crash
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TOM Fletcher has apologised after posting an "insensitive" Instagram photo after the fatal Air India crash. He deleted a post about flying a plane while listening to the Foo Fighters song Learn to Fly. 4 Tom Fletcher has apologised for an insensitive post shared on the day of the Air India crash Credit: Getty 4 The tail of the plane is seen hanging from the edge of a building after the crash in India Credit: Reuters 4 People stand near debris at the site of the plane crash On Thursday it was revealed that an Air India plane burst into a fireball while carrying 242 people, including 53 Brits, flying to London Gatwick airport. A British man miraculously survived the crash after jumping off the flaming jet and was filmed walking away from the wreckage. After reading the reports, McFly singer Tom, 38, wrote: "Sorry, I've only just seen the terrible news about the Air India crash. "So awful. Had I known earlier, I obviously wouldn't have posted about my flight today. The former Strictly Come Dancing star continued: "I understand why that must have looked insensitive and have deleted it. Thanks for letting me know. "My whole heart goes out to everyone involved in the crash and all their friends & families." Tom got his license to fly in 2008 when he was just 23 years old. He previously said he would have been a pilot if he wasn't in McFly. Tom apologised after Mark Wright was slammed for moaning about leg room on his flight after the tragic Air India crash. The former Towie star, 38, posted a snap of himself with wife Michelle Keegan and baby Palma posing in front of a private plane, as he moaned about the leg room on standard jets. Mark Wright slammed for 'poor taste' post about planes as 265 killed in horror Air India crash Appearing completely oblivious to the day's events, Mark wrote alongside it: '1 day babe, for now we'll take row 26 with no extra leg room.' His followers were quick to point out his lack of sensitivity, with one person commenting: 'Prob not the best day to post this when so many people lost their lives on a plane.' A second said: 'Not really appropriate to put this up after today's plane crash.' While a third wrote: 'Poor taste given today's event.' And a fourth added: 'What a time to choose to post this.' Radio DJ Mark has since deleted the post and blamed it on an admin error. He wrote: "I apologise for a post I just put up on my page after today's heartbreaking events. "I have posts from a holiday that are on the scheduled setting, which go out on future days I have set them for which was done last week. It's a horrendous coincidence that today's post was on such a devastating day. "Once I logged in to my Instagram and realised the post had gone out, I immediately deleted. My heart goes out to everyone who has been effected from today. I'm sorry for this mistake and any offence caused." At least 265 people were killed - including those on the plane and on the ground - when the Air India flight crashed into a hostel seconds after take off. According to flight tracking website Flightradar, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner's final signal was received just seconds after take-off. This was last logged at 1:38pm local time - less than a minute after it started the journey. King Charles II said he was "desperately shocked" by Thursday's air crash in India, sending "prayers and deepest possible sympathies" to the families of those affected. "My wife and I have been desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning," the monarch wrote on Instagram, calling it a "heartbreaking and traumatic time".

American tries roast dinner for first time but is floored by condiment
An American man sampled a British roast dinner for the first time, but it wasn't quite what he expected. One key element of the dish appeared to leave him very disappointed Sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to food. After all, there are so many different delicacies to try that it seems rude not to sample something new every now and then, but one American was left a little underwhelmed when he tucked into a roast dinner for the first time ever. The man was captured in a TikTok video sampling a roast, and he couldn't quite get over the experience, with parts of the recipe appearing to leave him confused. As well as sampling all the vegetables, he was handed some bread sauce and mint sauce to try, and it wasn't quite what he expected. In the clip, shared by AJ Slambino, you can see that a feast had been laid out on the table. As they sat down to eat, there were even pigs in blankets and stuffing on offer - it really was a roast with all the trimmings. He's seen saying: "I've never had mint sauce. There's a lot going on here, ok? There's a little kick to it. It's not spice - it's like that flavour. It's vinegar. "I'm going to be honest, I don't know if I would eat this again. I don't like the vinegar taste." Warning: Below video may contain offensive language He then moves on to try the bread sauce, but he seemed to like this a lot more. The critique was heard adding: "Yeah, that's divine. Mint sauce though, I don't think I'd do mint sauce again. I think I would pass on that." Since the video was shared, it's been viewed hundreds of times, and people were quick to comment too. Some Brits couldn't get over the fact that he didn't like mint sauce. One said: "Mint sauce with everything, every roast, all of them." Another added: "Mint sauce on everything with gravy." A third replied: "Mint sauce goes with any roast in my opinion. At the very least, make a mint gravy." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Bread sauce is in the elite tier." Others had different ideas though, as someone else suggested: "Always mint jelly, not mint sauce. It's sweeter and not like vinegar." One more also chimed in with: "Bread sauce is for chicken and turkey, mint sauce is for lamb." Despite having mixed feelings about aspects of the dish, AJ reveals he managed to clear his plate at the end. Overall, he must have thought it tasted pretty good, as not a scrap was left. Most people tend to eat mint sauce with lamb, and there's a good reason why. As the vingear gives it a lively tang, it's able to cut through the richness of lamb with just the right amount of acid, fragrance and sweetness. Meanwhile, bread sauce is usually served alongside a classic roast chicken or turkey. Many Brits pair it with white meat, esepcially at Christmas time.
