Despite Karl-Anthony Towns being listed as questionable and the Indiana Pacers' 3-1 series lead, the New York Knicks are the clear favorites in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals tonight at Madison Square Garden.
Towns' status is a major concern for the Knicks, who list their All-Star center as questionable.
For the Pacers, SF Aaron Nesmith is also listed as a game-time decision tonight, though both players are expected to be in action. Nesmith logged 32-plus minutes in Game 4 and finished with 16 points on 5-for-9 FG shooting after spraining his ankle in Game 3.

Pacers vs. Knicks Analysis, Betting Picks
Can New York Slow Down Haliburton, Pacers?
The Knicks were torched by Tyrese Haliburton (32 points, 12 rebounds, 15 assists, 0 turnovers) and Indiana in Game 4 on Tuesday. The Pacers hung 130 points on Jalen Brunson and Co., with an offensive rating of 126.8 and an effective field goal percentage of 58.5 to go with their 45-of-88 night from the field.
The Pacers bogged down offensively in the second half of Game 3, but they have otherwise been outstanding throughout this series, by both counting stats and efficiency metrics.
They finished Game 1 with 138 points and an offensive rating of 128.7, then scored 114 points (offensive rating: 123.4) in Game 2. After starting Game 3 strong, they went cold after halftime in that one en route to a 106-100 loss.
Indiana posted by far its worst numbers of the series in that game due to its 42-point second half. In fact, it finished that contest with series lows in not only points (100), but also offensive rating (104.9), field goal percentage (44.2) and effective FG percentage (47.4).
If we ignore, for a second, the eye test -- which has screamed that the Pacers' fast-paced attack is too much for the Knicks -- the numbers alone make it hard not to believe that Game 3 was an outlier, and that the Pacers will once again be able to light up the scoreboard tonight.
Can Brunson, Towns Carry New York To Shootout Victory?
If the Knicks indeed need a massive offensive performance to keep this series alive, the good news is that Brunson (who is averaging 33.3 ppg in this series) and Towns (25.8 ppg in this series) have both been able to score on the Pacers at will.
Tonight, though, with Towns battling a knee contusion and Brunson on the verge of wearing down amid the pressure he's under as a defender, I don't think that duo will have enough to pull out a victory. And remember, Towns (35 points) and Brunson (43) combined to score 78 in Game 1 at home, and New York still lost that contest.
Pacers vs. Knicks Game 5 Best Bets
Obviously, New York could stay alive if it gets big scoring games from OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and the rest of the Knicks' supporting cast. But based on how this matchup has played out to date, that doesn't feel like the most likely outcome tonight.
While writing off the desperate Knicks at home is a bold way to go, taking the Pacers to (at least) cover feels like the right play tonight.
I also like the Pacers to go over their team total of 109.5. That number feels well within reach, to say the least, for a team that has A) scored at least 114 points in 11 of its 14 playoff games and B) is averaging 120.5 points per game in the ECF.

NWSL's Pride finalize record deal with Mexico's Tigres for Lizbeth Ovalle

The Orlando Pride acquired Lizbeth Ovalle from Mexico's Tigres UANL on Thursday for an international record transfer fee. The Pride did not disclose terms of the agreement, but a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Pride would pay a fee of $1.5 million. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement with the National Women's Soccer League club had not yet been formally signed. The transfer fee surpasses the $1.3 million fee Arsenal paid Liverpool for Canadian striker Olivia Smith in the English Women's Super League last month. That broke the previous record fee of $1.1 million that Chelsea paid the San Diego Wave for defender Naomi Girma in January. Ovalle, who is known as Jacquie, was signed by the Pride through the 2027 season, with a mutual option for 2028. "I'm very happy to join Orlando Pride,' Ovalle said in a statement released by the Pride. 'I'm coming with the clear objective of winning titles and leaving a mark with the Club. I'm ready to give it my all and help Orlando Pride continue to be a leading team.' A 25-year-old winger, Ovalle has led the Tigres of Liga MX Femenil to six titles since joining the club in 2017. She is the team's all-time leading scorer with 136 goals. She's also made 58 appearances for the Mexican national team with 20 goals. Nicknamed La Maga (The Magician), Ovalle went viral on social media this year with a so-called 'scorpion kick' goal, only facing away from the net, in a Tigres match against Guadalajara. Ovalle is set to play in the Liga MX Femenil All-Star game against Barcelona on Friday before joining the Pride. 'This is a historic transfer not only for our institution, but also for Mexican and global soccer," Tigres said in a release announcing the deal. 'The transfer of a player widely recognized as the best in the Liga MX Femenil has been finalized." ___

Defense ready for season

Lost in all the drama was just how improved McNeese was last season compared to the year before. With six wins, the Cowboys had the second-largest turnaround in Division I football. Only Indiana improved more. Of course, that's because of a 1-11 2023 campaign that saw the program hit rock bottom. Also lost was just how improved the defense was for McNeese. It was that group that led the way to a better year despite some key injuries. 'We took a big step last season,' said defensive coordinator Tony Pecoraro. 'We were able to play more of an attack style and had more depth.' This year's version of McNeese seems even deeper thanks to a very good offseason in the transfer portal. That should help offset the loss of more than a few key players, including All-American linebacker Micah Davey and safety Boogsie Silvera. 'We lost some very good players, but we brought in some very good players, too,' said safety Javon Davis. 'I think we have a chance to be even a better group this year.' Davis had 43 tackles a year ago and is taking over as the leader of the defense. 'It's a different role that I'm looking forward to,' said Davis. 'I think this secondary has a lot of guys who can make plays.' With all the newcomers and moving parts, the big question early will be chemistry. That has not looked like an issue during camp, as the defense has been ahead of the offense heading into the second scrimmage and final scrimmage on Saturday. 'I have really liked what our defense has been doing,' said head coach Matt Viator. 'They really are fast to the football and have been physical.' The defensive line has been especially impressive. With 19 players in the room, depth, which has been a massive issue with the group the past few years, should not be one this fall. 'It's the deepest I've ever had in that room,' Pecoraro said of his linemen. 'I feel like we got 12 right now that I think we can win with. I remember when we were moving offensive linemen over during the season, we were so thin.' The defensive coordinator is also happy with the more physical play during this camp. 'We are actually taking people to the grass,' said Pecoraro. 'We are doing a lot of drills and teaching. We are seeing the guys use what they are learning and starting to really believe in it. 'It all starts in the trenches. I think the more physical work in the trenches will make us a more physical team.' Defensive ends A'Ron Thomas and Masey Lewis combined for 55 tackles and 4.5 sacks last year. 'I think we have the best defensive line in the league,' said Lewis. 'We have been through a lot the last few years, and we want to turn it around.' Some of the injuries last year could prove to be a blessing this season. It forced players who may not have had much time to play the game. Linebacker Peyton Lemaire, a Sulphur High product, is one of those guys. When Davey was injured last season, it was the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder who replaced him in the lineup. 'That helped me get the experience I needed,' said Lemaire. 'It gave me confidence that I would play at that level.' Lemaire believes this defense will be more about the group than just one or two guys. 'We have a lot of guys who can make plays,' Lemaire said. 'We are going to be more defense by committee, I think this year.' That is just what Cowboy fans want to hear.

NBA 2K ranks Rockets star Kevin Durant among league's top 10 players

Among all players, Rockets star Kevin Durant checks in at No. 10 on NBA 2K's newly released ratings list for its upcoming NBA 2K26 edition. Houston Rockets stars Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun are both top-40 players, and even at 37 years old, Kevin Durant could still be a top-10 player. That's the view of developers with the popular NBA 2K video game franchise, who announced Thursday that Durant (rated 93 on a scale going up to 100) came in with the league's No. 10 overall rating. For the new NBA 2K26 edition, the only players with a higher rating than Durant are: Based in large part on that trio of high-end talent, the Rockets are widely considered among the true championship contenders entering the 2025-26 season. With the Phoenix Suns last season, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting an extremely efficient 52.7% overall and 43.0% on 3-pointers. The future Hall of Famer earned All-Star honors for the 15th time in his distinguished career.
