BBC TV show The Troops to explore lives of Scottish soldiers
The British Army's most deployed infantry unit will feature in a new limited docuseries for BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer.
The series, titled The Troops, is produced by STV Studios Factual and will take viewers to the front line of modern soldiering.
The 3 x 60' series will have unprecedented access to the regiment and cover everything from life on the barracks to large-scale overseas military exercises.

The series will also highlight the challenges the soldiers face in their private lives and how they balance their demanding military careers with family life.
David Harron, factual commissioning executive at BBC Scotland, said: "This series will give audiences rare and fascinating insights into the world of military service, by following the stories of the men and women in one of Scotland's famous regiments.
"The Troops is the latest in a long line of observational documentary series from BBC Scotland which compellingly explore different aspects of contemporary Scotland."
Craig Hunter, executive producer and creative director of STV Studios Factual, said: "Our series will reveal the personal and professional lives of the men and women behind the uniform.

"Merging the challenges of home life with modern-day soldiering, we'll follow a cast of characters facing some of the toughest working environments in the world.
"The Troops will move beyond the drills and the weapons training to accurately reflect the personalities, commitment, and ambitions of an eclectic group of soldiers who could be deployed at any moment."
STV Studios Factual is the BAFTA Scotland-winning production label behind documentaries including The Firm (BBC Scotland), Unvaccinated (BBC Two), and What Killed the Whale? (Channel 4).
The Troops was developed by Lucy Hazzard, director of development at STV Studios Factual, and James Burrough.

Jay Slater and Nottingham attacks documentaries to air on Channel 4
The Disappearance Of Jay Slater will follow the story of the youngster who went missing in Tenerife in 2024 and was found later dead, with exclusive access to film Mr Slater's post-mortem and funeral. The crew behind the documentary have been making it in collaboration with Mr Slater's family, with the programme also set to look at the conspiracy theories that stemmed from the story, the online abuse that the family still receive and the media coverage of the story. Rita Daniels, Channel 4 commissioning editor, said: 'The story of Jay Slater captured the nation last summer with a fervour and intensity fuelled by armchair detectives and internet culture. 'We are so glad to be working with Anna on a sensitively handled exploration of the family's experience, and understanding the impact of being in the middle of a social media storm, amplified by grief. 'The film holds a light up to our current society and is exactly the story that is a necessity for Channel 4 to tell.' Produced by Candour Productions, it will also look at the world of online armchair detectives and the consequences of their actions. Another Channel 4 documentary, The Nottingham Attacks, will follow the families of Ian Coates, Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, who were killed in a fatal knife attack by Valdo Calocane, a man who was known to police and mental health services, in 2023. The 90-minute show, produced by Banijay UK's documentaries label, DSP Films, will look at the families' campaign for truth and justice following the killings, and the way their confidence in the NHS and police was impacted by the incident. Anna Miralis, Channel 4 senior commissioning editor, said: 'Channel 4 has an outstanding reputation for bold, topical and incredible access documentaries and The Nottingham Attacks is without doubt testament to this. 'Boasting a stalwart of incredibly talented filmmakers, I am sure this will be an extremely powerful and sensitively considered documentary. 'This is a vital and timely piece of storytelling of an appalling crime and will highlight the unimaginable impact it had on these remarkable families and show their unwavering desire to expose the truth.' The channel is also due to release a documentary, produced by Passion Pictures, on the crimes of John Smyth, a senior figure at a Christian charity, who inflicted abuse on as many as 130 boys and young men. His crimes began in his family home and escalated over decades and across continents until he was eventually revealed by church insiders, with a review finding his crimes were covered up by senior church officials. Ms Miralis added: 'This important film, made by a team of remarkable documentary makers, demonstrates the Channel's unflinching commitment to tackle difficult subject matter and provide the opportunity to those who have been silenced to speak out and share their experiences. 'This is the deeply disturbing story of a man who was able to escape culpability and evade justice, and pays tribute to the courage of those deeply affected. Passion has worked hard to build trust and ensure incredible access.' The release dates for the standalone shows have not yet been announced.

Heston Blumenthal says moment he was sectioned was ‘like a nightmare'
The restaurateur has spoken widely of his mental health issues in recent months, and told the I'm ADHD! No You're Not podcast that 'talking is the most important thing'. 'Sharing stories helps us realise we are not alone,' he said. 'The more we share, the more we normalise. 'It's OK to not be OK. 'I had an awful lot of wonderful responses to the things that I've been saying and talking about. 'From either people that have bipolar, or neurodiverse people. 'Also from people who've lived with people with bipolar.' Blumenthal, who presented Channel 4 shows Heston's Fantastical Food and Heston's Feasts, was sectioned following a manic episode and given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder in November 2023. Appearing on the podcast, which is presented by comedian Paul Whitehouse and his wife Dr Mine Conkbayir, Blumenthal described how he was forcibly pinned down on his sofa and given an injection to sedate him so he could be sectioned. 'There were nine people there, and they said, 'We're going to give you an injection and take you to hospital'. 'I got pinned on the sofa, my arms crossed, two people on each arm. 'I was fighting, and I saw the doctor pull out this massive syringe and I thought it was like a nightmare I used to have as a kid.' Blumenthal, known for his experimental dishes including snail porridge and bacon and egg ice cream, has been awarded seven Michelin stars over the course of his career. Married reality TV guru in talks for Strictly Come Dancing as bosses think he won't fall victim to show's ‘curse'
BBC bosses think they have found someone who won't fall victim to the infamous Strictly Come Dancing curse – Paul C Brunson. The married dating guru has become a big figure in the reality arena as part of Channel 4's two ratings giants, Married At First Sight and Celebs Go Dating. He spread his wings even further this year when he joined Netflix as Amanda Holden 's sidekick on Cheat: Unfinished Business, where eight former couples decide whether to reconcile or stay apart. But a spot on the BBC dancefloor would give Paul's career a huge boost. And the clean-cut American, who has been based in London since 2018, could be just what Strictly needs after two scandal-packed troubled series. A source said: 'Paul would be the ideal tonic to the dark clouds over Strictly as he's clean-cut, very intelligent and has no scandals to worry about. 'They are now in discussion but he's met with producers a number of times. 'Everyone is hoping he'll sign on the dotted line and is keen to make it happen.' Last month Strictly pro Karen Hauer was a guest on his podcast, We Need To Talk, so is likely well-versed in the show. He's welcomed everyone from Katie Price to singer Yungblud on the show, which is part of the reason bosses are so keen to get him on the dancefloor. The source added: 'The crucial 16-34 audience, which execs are desperate to hook, are well aware of Paul because of his podcast and MAFS and Celebs Go Dating are hugely popular with that age group.' So far names in talks for Strictly include Mo Farah, Georgia Toffolo and Gladiator Nitro.
