India's agrochemical exports set for moderate rebound in FY25: Rubix report

India Gazette4 hours ago

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): India's agrochemical exports are expected to moderately rebound in the Financial Year 2025, with improving demand and inventory normalisation, according to an industry report by Rubix, which analyses industry data and trends.
India's agrochemical exports declined sharply in FY2024, by nearly 22 per cent compared to the previous year, primarily due to global inventory destocking, heightened price competition from China, and subdued demand in key export markets.
The report says that distributors worldwide reduced procurement to manage excess stock amid falling prices. At the same time, Chinese suppliers re-entered the market with aggressively priced products, making Indian exports less competitive.
Additionally, erratic weather patterns impacted agricultural activity in importing countries, further dampening demand.
However, exports are expected to recover in the coming years as global inventories stabilise, demand picks up with improved agricultural cycles, and Indian manufacturers adapt with cost-efficient production and diversified portfolios.
As a result, the trade surplus (difference between exports and imports) came down from USD 3.6 billion in FY2023 and USD 2.8 billion in FY2024 to USD 2.3 billion in FY2025 (April 2024- February 2025).
Highlighting the factors that support exports, the report added that herbicides have emerged as the leading export segment, experiencing the fastest growth at 20 per cent CAGR from FY2020 to FY2025.
The share of herbicides in total agrochemical exports increased from 31 per cent to 37 per cent during the same timeframe.
As per the report, this growth is driven by India's cost-effective manufacturing, rising global demand for affordable herbicides, and the increasing scarcity and cost of agricultural labour, making herbicide-based weed control a more viable choice for farmers.
The export landscape reveals a growing concentration in key markets, as the top five export destinations account for more than 50 per cent share for insecticides and fungicides and nearly 71 per cent for herbicides.
Notably, the US and Brazil have maintained their positions as the top export destinations for insecticides and fungicides over the past five years.
However, in FY2025, Japan displaced Brazil as the second-largest export destination for herbicides. (ANI)

Indian stock market: What does US-Iran escalation mean for Nifty 50, Sensex? Key technical levels to watch out

Indian stock market: Indian benchmark indices - Sensex, Nifty 50 - are expected to open in gap-up session on Monday after United States has officially joined Israel in striking Iranian nuclear strikes. However, investors are hopeful for a market rebound as escalating geopolitical tensions continue to exert downward pressure on market sentiment, according to experts. Mahesh M Ojha, AVP — Research at Hensex Securities, said, ' Investors should keep an eye on the gap-up opening on Monday as geopolitical tensions intensify worldwide. The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran is expected to push up global crude oil and gold prices.' Experts suggest that the U.S. economy and global markets were unprepared for this sudden conflict, which could weigh heavily on overall investor sentiment across global stock markets. The Israel-Iran conflict has escalated significantly, with the United States launching attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and formally entering the war alongside Israel. The strikes reportedly targeted Iran's heavily guarded nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. US B-2 bombers, known for their advanced stealth capabilities and built by Northrop Grumman, were used in the operation. These aircraft are capable of carrying powerful bombs, which experts believe are well-suited for such high-security targets. Iran has pledged to strike back, sparking concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East. In light of the escalating tensions, the United States has initiated evacuation flights from Israel. On Friday, Indian equities ended the week with a 1.6% gain, rebounding from a three-day slump with a strong rally. Sensex opened slightly below its previous close at 81,354.85, compared to 81,361.87, but rallied by 1,133 points or 1.4% to hit an intraday high of 82,494.49. Similarly, the Nifty 50 started the day at 24,787.65, just under its last close of 24,793.25, and rose 1.4% to reach an intraday high of 25,136.20. ' For the past six consecutive weeks, Nifty has largely moved in a band of 24500-25200 and once there is a breakout on the higher side it would signal a bullish impulse and is likely to pave the way for higher targets of around the 25700 mark,' Sachdeva said. Meanwhile, on the outlook of Bank Nifty, she said, ' As for the Bank Nifty, it's likely to remain supported at 55400 levels and as long as the banking index is able to maintain this level, it is well-positioned to target higher levels of around 57180 mark.'

Wine industry expects rebound in FY26 after consumption slowdown last year

The impact of urban consumption slowdown was more 'stark' on the wine segment versus other AlcoBev categories, as it is a predominantly urban drink, according to the report Press Trust of India New Delhi The wine industry expects a normalised domestic macro environment to come as a boost in the current fiscal after suffering setbacks in 2024-25, which saw urban consumption slowdown and growth taking a "temporary pause", according to the annual report of Sula Vineyards Ltd. The impact of urban consumption slowdown was more 'stark' on the wine segment versus other AlcoBev categories, as it is a predominantly urban drink, according to the report. The wine demand was also impacted by multiple temporary regulatory and other market disruptions, including general elections and state elections in key markets such as Maharashtra, Sula Vineyards Founder and CEO Rajeev Samant said in the report. "After 3 years of strong growth, FY25 was more a year of demand reset for the Indian wine industry," he said, adding, "But the good news is that these setbacks are now behind us as we look forward to a more normalised domestic macro environment going into FY26." However, despite challenging market conditions for the wine industry, Sula reported its highest ever revenue from operations at Rs 619.4 crore in FY25. "We continued to consolidate our leadership position, being by far and ahead the largest wine brand in the country," said Samant while addressing his shareholders. According to Samant, "now the worst is behind us" and "optimistic of seeing better traction and growth in FY26 with positive triggers and expansion plans in our Own Brands and Wine Tourism businesses further supported by the normalisation of the macro environment expected soon." The company aims for "accelerating earnings Growth over the next 3 years (FY25-FY28) with improved Ebitda margins and capital efficiency". This will be helped through initiatives such as product development, expansion of its capacity, market Penetration, Wine Tourism and D2C Business. It is "on-track to expand Cellar capacity by 1 Mn Litres to total capacity of 19.2 Mn Litres per annum by the end of FY26". Samant also pointed out that the wine culture is evolving and spreading across India outside its top two markets, which is encouraging. "Our domestic Own Brand sales, excluding Maharashtra and Karnataka, grew by 8 per cent YoY, powered by a total of 11 states registering healthy double-digit growth. This fits in well with our endeavour of creating a truly pan-India penetration," said Samant. India's wine market is valued at approximately $150-200 million (including both domestic and imported wines), with more than 3 million cases being sold annually. "Wine is still in a nascent stage in India, accounting for <1% of the Indian AlcoBev market and the per capita consumption of wine in India too is less than 50 ml as compared to the world average of 5.5 litres," the report said. Therefore, there is a vast scope for the wine sector to grow and expand in India. "Going forward, the Indian wine market is expected to grow at 15 per cent CAGR over CY 2023-2028 led by the increasing prosperity and disposable income, rapid urbanisation, evolving consumer preferences and increase in the number of working women and women drinkers," the company said. Besides the wine business, Sula is also witnessing double-digit growth from its wine tourism business. It has two luxury resorts in Nashik - The Source at Sula' and Beyond by Sula', with a total of 104 keys. It has a new 30-key resort coming up near its York Winery, near Nashik and is expanding Wine Tourism Facility at Domaine Sula, Karnataka. "In FY25, our wine tourism revenue grew by 10.2 per cent YoY to Rs 60.3 crore, driven by a very successful SulaFest'25, coupled with the strong performance of our resorts. Our resort occupancy improved by 400 bps from 74 per cent in FY24 to 78 per cent in FY25 on the back of a strong festive and wedding season," he said.
