CT state police: 165 crashes this Memorial Day weekend, 16 charged with DUI

State troopers have been busy on state roads and highways this Memorial Day weekend and have made 611 traffic stops that have netted 16 arrests for alleged driving under the influence, according to Connecticut State Police.
Connecticut State Police have responded to 2,548 calls for service during the time period beginning at midnight Friday May 23, and ending at 11:59 pm, on Saturday, May 24, according to the agency.
During that span there have been 165 total motor vehicle crashes, 13 with injuries, two with serious injuries, but with no fatalities in that time period, according to state police.
Connecticut State Police have also responded to 190 calls for traffic services through Saturday. Those type of services include debris removal, assisting with disabled or hazardous motor vehicles.
AAA Club Alliance anticipated a 3% increase in travel throughout the state during the holiday five-day period from Thursday, May 22 through Monday, May 26.
More than 485,000 state residents were expected to travel 50 miles or longer this weekend and more than two million people are expected to travel throughout New England, according to AAA Club Alliance.
There were 83 fatalities on state roads for the year as of last week, down nearly 20 percent from this point last year, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the UConn Crash Data Repository. The numbers show the state is seeing its biggest reduction in fatal crashes in the past five years.
Despite a recent fatal of fatal crashes, the 83 fatalities represent a big drop from the 108 fatalities reported at this point last year and the 109 deaths in the same time period in 2023 and 2022. Authorities remind motorists that each of those fatalities is a tragedy and has far-reaching consequences for friends and families of the victims. They urge motorists to follow traffic laws.
'They're not just stats on a paper,' a DOT spokesman has said. 'They represent human life. And people are grieving those lives. So we need to spread some of that empathy and some of that awareness that, if we all did our part we can save lives and reduce some of the tragedies that people are feeling on a daily basis in our state.'

Dolby Atmos Sound Coming To Audi Cars From July

With recent research from the Federal Highway Administration revealing that more and more of us are spending longer and longer in our cars, Dolby seems to be on a mission to make the estimated three trillion miles a year Americans collectively spend on the road more enjoyable. The audio brand has already introduced its Dolby Atmos surround sound system to a range of different cars from brands including Mercedes, Cadillac, Lucid and Lotus (see the links at the end of this article), and now it's adding another big name to its Dolby Atmos car 'fleet': Audi. Dolby Atmos sound is coming to multiple Audi car models from July. No less than four different models from Audi's current car range are going to start being delivered with Dolby Atmos support built in from July 2025: The Q7s, Q8s, A8s and e-tron GTs. To make Dolby Atmos work in these ranges, Audi has had to introduce two significant innovations to their already impressive sound systems. First, the cars' integrated Bang & Olufsen Premium 3D Sound Systems have been specially adapted to handle Dolby's premium surround sound format. Second, Audi has provided access to multiple sources of Dolby Atmos audio content, including Amazon Music, Audible and Tidal, via apps integrated into the cars' multimedia interface and available via the Audi Application Store. Tracks can be selected for playback via this system by either the driver or front passenger. If you're not familiar with the benefits of Dolby Atmos sound, it's a so-called 'object based' sound system designed to create a three-dimensional sound stage that wraps right around the listener, including over their head. Sound effects and musical layers and elements are then placed within and steered around this three-dimensional space, rather than sounds just appearing to come from the position of the speakers as happens with traditional speaker systems. Or to put it in Dolby's own terms: 'Dolby Atmos allows artists to fully realize their creative vision, bringing the listener inside the music. Dolby Atmos creates a deeper connection between artists and their fans, transcending ordinary listening experiences by immersing listeners in their favourite songs and revealing every detail with unparalleled clarity and depth.' Artists really seem to be embracing the Dolby Atmos format now, too. In fact, no less than 93% of Billboard's 2024 Top 100 Artists released music mastered for the Dolby Atmos format, and both new Dolby Atmos releases and old track remasters have continued to become available across all the Atmos-enabled sound streaming networks throughout 2025 to date. Dolby Atmos at Audi will apparently be available in all Audi connect markets, which includes most European countries, the U.S. and Canada. — Related Reading Dolby Atmos Sound Coming To All 2026 Cadillac EVs – And Some 2025 Models Too Dolby Vision And Dolby Atmos Added To More TVs, Monitors, PCs And Cars Lucid Air Revealed As The World's First Car With Dolby Atmos Sound Dolby Atmos Music Introduced To New High-End Mercedes Cars Apple Dolby Atmos Comes To Cars For The First Time, Courtesy Of Mercedes
