HAMILTON, April 22 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The United Nations (UN) on Monday marked 50 days since Israel imposed a complete blockade on humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, warning of a rapidly deteriorating situation that is endangering the lives of civilians, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
"Today marks 50 days since the Israeli authorities have completely blocked incoming supplies of any kind into the Gaza Strip," UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference.
Citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Dujarric said: "Since early March, not a single truck carrying food, fuel, medicine or any other essentials has been allowed in, no matter how critical they are for people's survival."

Warning over the "dangerously low" food stocks in the enclave, Dujarric said: "Rations have been cut. Critical medicines, vaccines, and medical supplies are all running low."
"Ambulances have had to scale back life-saving services because there's almost no fuel to power these ambulances. Cooking gas has disappeared from markets. Bakeries have been forced to shut down," he said.
He warned that "the impact of the full block—of this continued blocking—of humanitarian aid is devastating. Children and adults alike are going hungry. Access to health care is falling apart," adding that "attacks on civilians, including emergency teams and aid workers, have surged again."
Following Israel's internal probe into an airstrike that killed aid workers in Rafah, Dujarric said: "Based on those findings, it is clear that too many civilians, including aid workers, have been killed in Gaza."
"There needs to be accountability—serious accountability—for all those who've committed them," he stressed, noting that a UN investigation would require a specific mandate.
On the ceasefire talks, Dujarric said: "All we can hope for is for an agreement to be reached to ensure that humanitarian aid once again flows freely and unhindered into Gaza."

Israeli strikes kill 16 in Gaza, most while waiting for aid
GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories: Gaza's civil defence agency said 16 people were killed in Israeli military operations in the Palestinian territory on Sunday, most of them while waiting for aid. The first responders agency's teams transported the bodies of 16 people killed by Israeli fire in various part of the Palestinian territory, spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP. At least three people were killed and many injured when Israeli forces "targeted a gathering of hundreds of citizens near the aid distribution point" in central Gaza Sunday morning, Bassal said. In the coastal territory's north, Bassal said civil defence teams transported seven people killed on their way to get aid distributed from trucks in the area northwest of Gaza City. In south Gaza, two people were killed and 50 were injured "when (Israeli) forces opened fire on citizens near an aid distribution point," Bassal said. Contacted by AFP, the army said it was "not aware of gunshots near Netzarim or Rafah", and that it was looking into the events in northern Gaza. Israeli restrictions on media in Gaza and the difficulties of access on the ground mean AFP is unable to independently verify the casualty tolls provided by the civil defence agency. Dozens of Palestinians have been killed while trying to reach Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) distribution points since the US- and Israel-backed organisation began operating in late May, according to the civil defence agency. An officially private effort with opaque funding, the GHF began operating on May 26 after Israel cut off supplies into Gaza for more than two months, sparking international condemnation and warnings of imminent famine. The Gaza Strip has been ravaged by more than 20 months of war between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas, with the situation continuing to deteriorate on the ground. Bassal said that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen, "with no food, no water and no medicine, while thousands of children, the elderly and the sick go to sleep hungry."--AFP

Melaka Teen Violence Underscores Urgent Need For School Mental Health Support
Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- A recent violent incident in Melaka involving a 17-year-old student, suspected of killing his mother and elder brother and seriously injuring his younger brother, has raised concerns and prompted calls for stronger mental health support for youth. Mental Health Promotion Advisory Council member Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the heartbreaking case highlights gaps in the country's support systems, as initial reports indicate the incident stemmed from long-standing domestic tensions, including possible academic stress. 'Mental health struggles, especially among adolescents, are real. Depression, anxiety, emotional isolation and unprocessed anger can fester when left undetected,' he said in a statement today. Lee noted that school counsellors are often overstretched or unavailable, while parents are typically untrained to detect signs of distress. He added that many young people suppress their emotions for fear of judgment or punishment. He urged the Education Ministry to strengthen school counselling infrastructure by ensuring every school is staffed with trained professionals in adolescent psychology. He also proposed implementing emotional literacy programmes to help students cope, reflect and seek support when overwhelmed. Lee further called on the Health Ministry and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to work together to build accessible and non-stigmatised mental health services across both urban and rural areas. 'Mobile units, school-linked referral pathways and youth-friendly clinics should be scaled up,' he added. He also stressed the need for national campaigns to educate caregivers and teachers about emotional intelligence, respectful communication and recognising early warning signs. 'Let us be clear, violence is never acceptable. But silence and inaction, too, can be dangerous. If this tragedy becomes the catalyst for deeper conversations and decisive reforms around youth mental health, then perhaps we can prevent future loss before grief becomes the only language left,' he said. According to media reports, a 17-year-old student has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 51-year-old mother and 21-year-old brother at their home in Bukit Rambai, Melaka last Thursday. -- BERNAMA BERNAMA provides up-to-date authentic and comprehensive news and information which are disseminated via BERNAMA Wires; BERNAMA TV on Astro 502, unifi TV 631 and MYTV 121 channels and BERNAMA Radio on FM93.9 (Klang Valley), FM107.5 (Johor Bahru), FM107.9 (Kota Kinabalu) and FM100.9 (Kuching) frequencies.
