REUTERS/Karam al-Masri ISTANBUL, July 16 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Egypt decried on Wednesday the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian and Lebanese territories, stressing that they constitute a "violation" of the sovereignty of both countries and a "breach" of international law, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "The Arab Republic of Egypt condemns the repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanese and Syrian territories, which represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the two brotherly Arab countries and a breach of international law and relevant UN resolutions." Egypt emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty of both Syria and Lebanon, as well as the unity and territorial integrity of their lands, and said it 'fully rejects' any interference in their internal affairs. bootstrap slideshow It affirmed that these repeated violations exacerbate tensions and are a fundamental factor in the instability of both countries and the region, "amid a delicate situation in which serious regional and international efforts are underway, with active Egyptian participation, to de-escalate tensions and support regional security and stability," according to the ministry. Israeli warplanes launched multiple airstrikes targeting southern Syria's Suwayda governorate and Daraa in the country's southwestern areas on Tuesday. The attacks came as Syrian Defence Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra announced a full ceasefire in Suwayda following negotiations with local community leaders. On Monday, more than 30 people were killed and nearly 100 others injured in clashes between armed Bedouin tribal fighters and Druze militias in Suwayda. In Lebanon, at least 12 people were killed and eight others injured on Tuesday when Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes in the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek, in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement. Cross-border warfare between Israel and the Hezbollah group in Lebanon escalated into a full-scale war last September. Despite a November ceasefire, Israeli forces have carried out near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah activities.

Over 700 Palestinians Killed While Collecting Water In Gaza, Say Authorities
GAZA CITY / ISTANBUL, July 15 (Bernama-Anadolu) – More than 700 Palestinians, mostly children, have been killed by Israeli army fire while collecting water since October 2023, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing local authorities on Monday. 'The Israeli occupation continues to wage a systematic and deliberate war of thirst against the Palestinian people in Gaza, in a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian conventions,' Gaza's government media office said in a statement. The office accused Israeli forces of using water as a weapon of war 'to deprive the Palestinians of their most basic rights.' bootstrap slideshow It noted that Israeli army forces had committed 112 massacres against Gazans collecting water, killing more than 700 people, mostly children, since October 2023. On Sunday, at least 12 people were killed, including eight children, by Israeli fire while waiting to collect water in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. The media office said that over 720 water wells were deliberately destroyed by the Israeli army in Gaza. 'Attacks on water wells have deprived more than 1.25 million Palestinians of access to clean water,' it added. According to the statement, the Israeli army has obstructed the entry of 12 million litres of fuel monthly, the necessary amount to operate the minimum number of water wells, sewage stations, waste collection mechanisms, and other vital sectors in Gaza. 'This has caused a complete paralysis in water and sewage networks and the spread of epidemics, mainly among the children,' it added.

EU Unveils New Guidelines, Age Verification App Prototype To Protect Children Online
BRUSSELS, July 15 (Bernama-Anadolu) --The European Commission on Monday introduced new guidelines and unveiled a prototype age verification app as part of broader efforts to enhance online safety for minors under the Digital Services Act (DSA), Anadolu Ajansi reported. The guidelines detail how digital platforms can better shield children from online risks such as addictive design features, cyberbullying, harmful content, and unsolicited contact. They also clarify when and how age verification should be conducted, particularly for high-risk services like adult content platforms. bootstrap slideshow In a statement, the EU Commission announced a key element of the initiative: a prototype age verification app developed to uphold user privacy. The app enables users to prove they are over 18 without revealing personal information such as their date of birth or identity. The app will initially be piloted in Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, and Spain. Trials will be carried out in cooperation with online platforms, including adult content providers. Depending on the results, the tool could be adapted for other age thresholds or sectors, such as alcohol sales. This collaborative project represents a significant step in implementing the DSA and fostering a consistent, privacy-conscious approach to age verification across the EU. "Making sure our children and young people are safe online is of paramount importance to this Commission," said Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy. "Platforms have no excuse to be continuing practices that put children at risk."
