Flooding damages electrical infra, disrupts power supply in 3 districts
Sources said power to over 50,000 consumers in the three districts was temporarily disconnected due to flooding. The worst-affected areas include Basta, Baliapal and Bhograi blocks in Balasore, Chandabali and Dhamnagar in Bhadrak, and Binjharpur in Jajpur, where access remains restricted due to submerged roads.
Damage to electrical infrastructure makes it difficult for authorities to resume supply promptly.
Power has been partially restored in some areas. However, many villages continue to remain without electricity.
In several locations, daytime power cuts are being implemented to facilitate repairs. As per Tata Power Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), the 11kV Pratappur feeder line under the Baliapal primary substation in Balasore was severely impacted, disrupting supply to 72 villages and affecting nearly 10,900 consumers.

As a temporary measure, electricity was provided at night while maintenance was carried out during the day.
Power to villages like Chaudharikuda, Palajamkunda, Jamkunda, Talapada, Nayabali, Bishnupur, Kulhachada and Ikdapal have been fully restored.
In Jajpur, two blocks experienced major disruptions, affecting around 10,000 consumers. The Sundermuhin substation was particularly hard-hit, with six distribution transformers damaged, 11km of low-tension lines uprooted and a critical river-crossing distribution point destroyed.
In Bhadrak, several villages, including Analdiha, Astak, Mishrapur, Khangara-Dhamnagar, Gochhayat Sahi, Pachhalo, Khadimahara, Pangata, Harihansa, Hasnabad and Nuasahi-Asurali, experienced outages. TPNODL deployed 60 personnel, replaced 50 damaged poles and restored power supply. Five substations located in waterlogged areas were temporarily powered through nearby transformers.
Gajanan S Kale, CEO of TPNODL, said restoration work is progressing on a war footing. "Our teams are working round the clock to restore electricity in the affected areas. In many places, it is still unsafe to restore connections due to waterlogging, but we are monitoring the situation closely," he added.

Incessant rains since saturday afternoon cripple normal life in Lucknow
1 2 Lucknow: Continuous rainfall since Saturday afternoon threw normal life out of gear in several parts of the city, with waterlogging and power outages reported across multiple localities. Dark clouds loomed over the city throughout Sunday, keeping the skies overcast and causing low visibility conditions that made it appear unusually dark even during the daytime. Frequent spells of rain resulted in severe waterlogging in key residential and commercial areas, including Gomtinagar, Chinhat, Sarojininagar, Sushant Golf City, Malihabad, and Indiranagar. The downpour turned several city roads into virtual streams, leading to traffic snarls and breakdowns of vehicles. Many commuters were seen wading through waterlogged roads, pushing their two-wheelers and four-wheelers that stalled mid-route. In Gomtinagar, the situation worsened when rainwater accumulated on the roads, causing inconvenience to the commuters. Similar situations were reported in low-lying areas, where water entered homes and shops. Power supply was disrupted in multiple neighbourhoods as heavy rain led to technical faults and breakdowns in the distribution network. Officials said restoration work was underway, but intermittent rain continued to pose a challenge. "This is the situation every year; authorities should act before the rainy season," said Praveen Srivastava, a resident of Sarojininagar. Rakesh Gupta, a shopkeeper in Gomtinagar, lamented, "Due to waterlogging, our business is being affected; there should be a proper solution for the problem." Efforts are being made to pump out excess water from the worst-hit zones. Senior LMC officials stated, "We've deployed additional teams in vulnerable areas to clear waterlogging and restore essential services. However, the continuous rain is making it difficult to carry out operations efficiently." More rainfall is predicted over the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Department warned, raising concerns of further disruption during the workweek. Krishna basin river mapping starts to study causes of floods
Kolhapur: The cross-sectional mapping of the rivers in the Krishna basin has started to understand the reasons for the flooding of these rivers. Irrigation officials said a Pune-based technical expert firm has been engaged for the survey. They said the depth and width of the river streams are being measured. An arithmetic model is being prepared to study the causes of the floods. The survey is scheduled to end in Sept. Based on the findings, a draft report to take measures to prevent the rivers from flooding would be prepared and submitted to state govt and then to the World Bank to secure funds. Smita Mane, the executive engineer of Kolhapur's water resources department, said, "In the wet area of the river, which is the section where the water is flowing at height, the cross-sectional measurements are being taken. The model will be prepared, which will tell us why floods occur, the frequency of the occurrence, and ultimately the measures to stop the floods. The mapping will be completed by the end of Sept, and we have to submit the detailed project report for the works to be carried out and to get the funds by the end of Feb. " All the rivers of the Krishna basin, leading up to the Hippargi barrage along the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, are to be mapped. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Female Athletes Right Now Undo The key rivers include Panchaganga, Warna, Koyna, and the Krishna river stretch from Karad to the Hippargi barrage. Information about the flow rate, depth, and width is being gathered mainly from the locations of bridges along the rivers. State govt's Maharashtra Institute for Transformation and the World Bank have entered into an agreement. The WB would fund Rs 2,300 crore, and state govt would allocate nearly Rs 8,000 crore for various components of the project. The first component is to get stormwater drainage properly built in Kolhapur, Sangli, and Ichalkaranji cities to avoid urban flooding, with funds of Rs 900 crore allocated for that. Another component of the project is to divert floodwaters to the water-scarce regions of Maharashtra, mainly Marathwada. The mapping of the rivers and finding the exact causes of the floods is a step towards achieving the goal.
