Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 15 - Bill Bunting (1970-71)
The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans".
Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today.
To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 17th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 15 which has has had a total of 14 players wear the number in the history of the team.
The first of those players wearing No. 16 played in the (then) New York (now, Brooklyn) Nets era, forward alum Bill Bunting. After ending his college career at UNC, Bunting was picked up with the 26th overall selection of the 1969 NBA draft by the New York Knicks.
The New Bern, North Carolina native would play the first # seasons of his pro career with the ABA's (defunct) Carolina Cougars instead. That ended with a trade to New York in 1970, his stay with the team spanning just 39 games of one season before he was dealt to the (also defunct) Virginia Squires.
During his time suiting up for the Nets, Bunting wore only jersey Nos. 15 and 3, and put up 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Raptors have ‘mutual interest' as Bucks exit rumors ramp up

The Greek Freak has some interest in Canada. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the center of trade talks since the Bucks' season went down in flames in the first round of the playoffs, which included Damian Lillard tearing his Achilles. The Toronto Star's Doug Smith reports that Antetokounmpo and the Raptors have 'mutual interest' and could be a good match in a potential trade. Giannis Antetokounmpo #34 of the Milwaukee Bucks and Damian Lillard #0 of the Milwaukee Bucks NBAE via Getty Images Smith did qualify the report by adding that the odds are 'long' that the Raptors will outbid the bevy of teams looking to acquire a star player of this quality. Milwaukee, which doesn't control its first-round draft pick until 2031, would need a combination of draft capital and young players to complete any deal for its prized perennial MVP candidate. Antetokounmpo has not officially asked for a trade, but The Post's Brian Lewis reported that he is exploring his options and could opt to force his way out of Milwaukee. The Nets are also a potential landing spot. The Nets would have a tougher time trading for Antetokounmpo than most, despite having more draft picks than just about any team in the NBA. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the subject of trade rumors. Getty Images Should Antetokounmpo request a trade, a list of teams would likely be sent to the Bucks of who he would like to go to, potentially giving the Raptors or Nets a chance to acquire him even if they aren't a perfect fit. Antetokounmpo, 30, is a two-time MVP and, in 2020, helped the Bucks win their first championship since 1971. Toronto would likely trade most of its draft capital to acquire Antetokounmpo and could look to trade young players RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley. The Golden State Warriors are also widely expected to be in the mix should he leave the Bucks.

Nets' D'Angelo Russell is really high on Spurs' Victor Wembanyama

Nets' D'Angelo Russell is really high on Spurs' Victor Wembanyama The Brooklyn Nets are still early in their offseason and many of the players are enjoying their summers before they have to come back to Brooklyn to try to improve on the 26-56 record from this season. D'Angelo Russell has been taking full advantage of his time off by touring China as part of his signature shoe promotion, but he also took the time to talk about an upcoming great NBA player. "Victor Wembanyama... He's slick. I'm telling y'all now, I'm putting this on air. Remember, I gave him his flowers last time," Russell said of San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama during the latest episode of his "The Backyard Podcast" show. Russell's podcast is not only for him to talk about what's on his mind, but also acts as a vlog of sorts that shows what he is doing behind the scenes. "This is a big statement. If they (the NBA) ever change the logo, it might be him," Russell continued while speaking about Wembanyama. "He's that special... I'm just really high on Victor Wembanyama. I think he's really special." Wembanyama, 21, is considered one of the players in the "up-and-coming" tiers usually attributed to young players that have the appearance of someone destined for stardom and he hasn't disappointed thus far. Wembanyama, the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is not only boasting career averages of 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.7 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 46.9% from the field and 33.9% from three-point land, but he has always made waves in the league in terms of his accomplishments. Wembanyama, listed at 7-foot-3 and 235 pounds, was the Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 season while being named to the All-Defensive First Team, is a one-time All-Star, and has led the NBA in blocks per game the past two seasons. Russell is a free-agent this summer and while he has spoken about wanting to come back to Brooklyn, there could be a chance that he signs with the Spurs considering his feelings about Wembanyama's future.
