Sky axe legendary children's channel today after 16 years

Leader Live22-04-2025
The broadcaster is removing the children's channel POP Max from all platforms on Tuesday, as confirmed by Sky on its website.
It first launched in 2008 as Kix before rebranding to POP almost 10 years later in 2017.
Sky aired POP Max and POP Max +1 on Sky Q and Sky+HD, as well as POP Max HD on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
The channel was a favourite among children, known for showing animated programmes including Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series and Droners.
The move by Sky follows POP Max being taken off Freeview last year, following a shift in digital streaming, reports The Sun.
However, other POP-branded channels, including Tiny POP will remain on Sky, but some are moving as a result of the POP Max closure:
It's reported many of the children's shows that previously aired on POP Max will continue to be available on demand via the free POP Player app.
Other changes coming to Sky from today, according to its website, include Sky Adventure (Satellite 302 - Sky Glass/Stream 302) being renamed to Apocalyptic HD as a temporary change.

Elsewhere, some temporary name changes will be reverted from Tuesday, with Harry Potter (Satellite 306/850 - Sky Glass/Stream 306) renamed back to Sky Family/Sky Family HD and Sky The Hobbit (Satellite 303 - Sky Glass/Stream 303) changing back to Sky Hits/Sky Hits HD.

Ryan Reynolds turns up on Sky Sports live, mocks Wrexham pundit and reveals gift

Ryan Reynolds turns up on Sky Sports live, mocks Wrexham pundit and reveals gift Ryan Reynolds was in Wrexham for the club's first home game in the Championship Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds spoke to Sky ahead of their second Championship match. (Image: Sky Sports) Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were interviewed on live TV ahead of Wrexham's second Championship match against West Bromwich Albion. Reynolds took the opportunity to poke fun at a studio pundit he knew well and revealed a 'gift' he has been given. ‌ Wrexham were home at the Racecourse Stadium on Saturday lunchtime in their first Championship home match of the 2025/2026 season. After three successive promotions, which were recently praised by Wales legend Gareth Bale, the next big step for the north Walian club is to gain promotion to the Premier League. ‌ Coming off the back of a penalty shoot-out victory over Hull City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, Wrexham welcomed Midlands opposition West Brom to Wales and their owners were on hand to provide their thoughts. ‌ Former Wrexham defender Ben Tozer, who was with the club between 2021 and 2024, was part of the Sky Sports punditry team and was tasked with asking a question to his former work colleagues. "Hi Ryan, you alright? Is that Rob with you?," asked Tozer. "Is that Tozer?!," asked Reynolds. "You look shorter on TV," joked McElhenney. "Yeah, you do, you look tiny," added Reynolds. Article continues below "I've got Rob Mac here, I don't need anyone but Rob Mac for the rest of my life. I'll say that right now, Tozer. And you know it." "Tozer asked: Who have you brought with you that's famous? Because that's what you tend to do." "My kids are here, that's about it," said McElhenney. "That's about it," added Reynolds. "Shall we see if we can get Will Ferrell? Hugh (Jackman) is a fan of Norwich (disgusted face)." ‌ Content cannot be displayed without consent Reynolds went on to iterate that "we don't make football decisions" when asked about the management style of the owners and Phil Parkinson. "The great gift of that is to be able to have relationships with the players at Wrexham whereas most people in our position can't," answered Reynolds. ‌ "We have a relationship with every single one of our players. Not Tozer, of course, but everyone since him, for sure." McElhenney added: "It's interesting to get accolades when you hear people say: 'You guys have done a pretty good job for the club', and the truth is - we don't really have anything to do with what happens out on the pitch. "We've just got our very specific job, which is to be clowns and tell the story as best we can, but to be as respectful as we possibly can to what Phil does on the pitch. Article continues below "We just get to sit back, be fans and document the process." Next week, Wrexham face Sheffield Wednesday for another home fixture.
