Dindigul Dragons defeated Madurai Panthers in TNPL 2025 despite a comedy of errors in the field.
The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 clash between Dindigul Dragons (DD) and Madurai Panthers (MP) at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem on Saturday witnessed a comedy of errors with multiple overthrows.
The DD fielders made multiple mistakes, missing multiple chances to run the batters out. In the final over, with Gurjapneet Singh and S. Rajalingam at the crease, Ravichandran Ashwin easily fielded a shot towards extra cover. His throw at the bowler's end missed the stumps with the bowler not backing up. The batters completed a second run as the ensuing overthrow was retrieved and thrown towards wicketkeeper Baba Indrajith, who also failed to gather. The batters got a third run from another errant throw back to the bowler.

Earlier, Dindigul Dragons' skipper R Ashwin won the toss and chose to field. The Madurai Panthers posted 150/8, with Atheeq Ur Rahman leading their innings with 50 off 41 balls. Opener Balachander Anirudh contributed a useful 31 off 24 deliveries. For the Dragons, DT Chandrasekar and G Periyaswamy each took two wickets in their respective four-over spells.

Three overthrows in one ball: R Ashwin livid after teammates commit harakiri in TNPL match, commentators left ROFL
For the second time in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Ravichandran Ashwin was left livid, although Dindigul Dragons secured contrasting results in both games. Days after a video of the India legenda arguing with the on-field umpire went viral, for which he was punished, Ashwin, on Saturday, was seen simmering with helplessness after an array of fielding blunders during the match Siechem Madurai Panthers in Salem. The incident happened in the penultimate ball of the first innings when Ganeshan Periyaswamy dished out a wide yorker to Gurjapneet Singh. The batter reached out to slice it through covers, but found Ashwin, who quickly threw it towards the non-striker's end, hoping to inflict a runout. But the bowler did not get in time to grab the ball either, as the Dragons allowed an extra run. Ashwin's throw was covered by the fielder at deep square leg, who then threw the ball back to the wicketkeeper, again in an attempt for a runout, only for the opposition to steal another run from the over-throw. This was followed by a third missed attempt at a runout as the batters looked for third single. Amid the harakiri in Salem, which even left the commentators in splits, the camera caught Ashwin seething but seemed rather helpless in the situation. Dindigul Dragons had kicked off their campaign with a seven-wicket win against Lyca Kovai Kings at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore on June 5, before losing to IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans at the same venue three days later. However, on Saturday, they bounced back to winning ways, beating the Panthers by nine wickets. Set a target of 151, the Dragons chased it down within 12.3 overs with captain Ashwin scoring a 29-ball 49 in a 124-run opening stand. Fellow opener Shivam Singh was the star in the chase with his unbeaten 86 off 41, laced with eight maximums and six boundaries. He was named the Player of the Match for his performance. Dindigul Dragons will play their next match against the Chepauk Super Gillies on Monday, June 16.

"There Were Poisonous Characters In That Side": AB de Villiers On His Former IPL Team
An icon in the Indian Premier League (IPL), AB de Villiers produced quite a few magical performances in the T20 league, particularly for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, the batter first started his career in the IPL with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008. Though it was for the Bengaluru side that the South African really made a name for himself, his Delhi days are often overlooked. De Villiers couldn't perform for DD the way he did for RCB, and the reason behind this change finally seems to be out. In a candid chat, De Villiers claimed that there were many 'poisonous characters' in the DD side when he played for them. Though the former South Africa captain didn't take names, he said that the 'poisonous characters' sort of ruined the fact that he also got to play with legends like Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vettori in the team. "I would hate to give you names. Burning people, you know. But the Delhi Daredevils were in shambles. I mean, it was. There were lots of poisonous characters in that side," de Villiers said in a chat with "Lots of legends. So it's such a bittersweet moment for me because I speak... I remember it fondly. And some of the highlights of my life and career was there, spending time with Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vettori." "That's where we got close. But these guys were my heroes and I was so scared of them growing up," he added. "Like McGrath. I mean, I played against him in 2006 in a Test match and I could hardly breathe, literally, and never spoke a word to him. And then in the next minute, I'm sitting here in 2008 and he sits next to me and goes, I like the way you play. I'm like, what's going on there?"

R Ashwin Left Fuming By Hilarious Triple Run-Out Miss In TNPL, Video Goes Viral
Last Updated: Ravichandran Ashwin was left furious after the Dindigul Dragons missed three run-outs on the same ball in the TNPL. Dindigul Dragons skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was left seething after seeing his team miss three run-out chances on the same ball against Siechem Madurai Panthers in the 11th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) at Salem on Saturday, June 14. It happened on the second-last ball of the first innings. Ganeshan Periyaswamy bowled a wide yorker to Gurjapneet Singh, who reached out to slice it to covers. Ashwin gathered and threw it at the non-striker's end but missed, and the bowler hadn't come back in time to grab it either. This allowed the first bonus run. Ashwin's throw was covered by the deep square leg fielder running in, who collected and aimed at the striker's end as the batters were stealing the over-throw. But it was also mis-directed and the wicketkeeper, Baba Indrajith, didn't get behind the ball either. The ball went past him and the batters set off for a second bonus run. Even the third throw missed the bowler and the stumps but was backed up and the batters didn't run again, happy with three runs. The cameras panned to Ashwin who was visibly angry but tried to keep his calm. Watch it here: The TNPL always seems to find ways to get to Ashwin's nerves. In another recent game, he was given out LBW on R Sai Kishore's bowling when the ball had clearly pitched outside the leg-stump, prompting the former India spinner to say a few words to the umpire before smashing his bat on his pads. This time, though, his team gave him enough reason to rejoice after the triple run-out miss. The Madurai Panthers could only reach 150/8 with Atheeq Ur Rahman top-scoring with a 41-ball 50, thanks to two-wicket spells from Periyaswamy and DT Chandrasekar. In reply, Ashwin, opening the batting, hit a nice 49 (29) with six fours and three sixes, before top-scorer Shivam Singh (86 off 41) and Hunny Saini (14 off 7) finished things off in less than 13 overs. This was the Dragons' second win of the tournament, placing them third on the points table.
