Missing New Brunswick woman's family holds out hope 1 month after disappearance
A month after a Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B., woman disappeared without a trace, her son says the family is clinging to routine and to each other.
Ruth Carol Sutton, 79, was last seen on Mallard Drive the morning of May 25.
As the search enters a second month, Sutton's family is doing their best to cope with the uncertainty.
'We've had a little time to get used to the idea rather than in the case of a sudden death. Dad's doing quite well,' said her son, Bertis Sutton.
'He's engaged in things that interest him and trying to keep his mind on happier things.'
Bertis says his mother, who goes by the name Carol, grew up by the water in Hampstead. She is an avid swimmer and has lived with her husband in their home for more than 50 years.

'It didn't affect her personality, it didn't affect her vocabulary, her long-term memory. She was never disoriented or didn't know where she was,' he said.
'The best we can guess is that something changed in her physiology and her brain that morning and this was her first and last wander.'
Carol is described as being five-feet-two-inches tall, about 130 pounds, with white hair and blue eyes. She was last seen in a light-blue jacket and rubber ankle boots.
RCMP says investigations like this remain open indefinitely, until the missing person is found.
'Last week we were undertaking a search with underwater recovery team in the area in proximity where Ms. Carol Sutton went missing and also our drone system was up and running last week as well, searching for some ground near the river,' said RCMP Sgt. Ben Comley.

Bertis hopes someone — even unknowingly — may have seen something and is urging them to contact police.
'She could definitely come off to you as just a person looking for a ride and somebody with good intentions may have just taken her somewhere and no even realized the significance of it,' he said.

NBC News first reported the incident on Thursday afternoon, after two police officers familiar with the investigation told the outlet the home belonged to Pitt. He was not present at the time of the robbery, the sources added. The actor's representative has not commented on the incident. Pitt is not the first high-profile individual whose Los Angeles home has been targeted this year. Son of Norway's crown princess charged with rape, sexual assault
The son of Norway's crown princess, Mette-Marit, has been charged on counts including rape, sexual assault and bodily harm following his arrest in November 2024. Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norway's crown princess and stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, has been under scutiny since he was repeatedly arrested in 2024 amid allegations of rape and on preliminary charges of bodily harm and criminal damage. On Friday, Oslo police said Høiby, 28, was co-operative during police questioning, which is now complete following a months-long investigation in a case that involved a 'double-digit' number of accusers. Evidence in the case was drawn from sources including text messages, witness testimonies and police searches, Oslo police prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski said. During a press conference, Kruszewski said the charges included one case of rape involving intercourse and two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm. The accuser is a woman in her 20s who did not know Høiby before she met him on the day of the alleged incident, her lawyer Hege Salomon told CNN. ‘No need for the punishment': Parents of Halifax soccer players upset by suspension
Parents are speaking out after a soccer facility in Halifax cancelled their children's practices for a week with no refund after allegations of 'aggressive behaviour' from players. It's an allegation the parents and volunteers of Ignite Soccer Club — an organization primarily made up of newcomer families — dispute. 'We were all very confused when we got this long email,' said Hadia Bedoui, a parent volunteer with Ignite Soccer. She says the club, which has more than 500 youth players, had all its bookings cancelled at the BMO Soccer Centre facilities. She adds Ignite was first told that the sweeping ban was because of 'aggressive behaviour' from players, before the club was presented with video footage. 'It turns out that it was a group of four to five and six-year-olds, who typically arrive early because their mothers rely on public transit to get here, who are from a different background,' she said. Among the programs offered by Ignite, two are geared specifically for young newcomers: one is for children aged seven to 18, and another is focused on newcomer girls and women. 'The message that it sends is, 'They're the diverse group so, you know, we're just going to collectively punish them all' even though there was no need for the punishment,' Bedoui said. Parent Ibrahim Elayyat says his children, aged five and seven, broke out in tears when they were told they weren't allowed to play. 'It's important to make sure when you make a decision how this is a decision going to impact this whole community especially those communities all from diverse group, Black, African, Nova Scotia newcomers, people with different backgrounds, different cultures,' said Elayyat, who came to Canada from Egypt. In a statement to Global News, Soccer Nova Scotia's executive director, Lindsay MacAskill, says Ignite's field time has since been reinstated and that the temporary pause in bookings was to 'prioritize safety.' 'At the core of this matter is the duty of care and responsibility we jointly owe to all children and youth who use our (Soccer Nova Scotia) facilities,' a statement signed by Soccer Nova Scotia and Ignite Soccer Club reads. 'Soccer Nova Scotia and Ignite Soccer Club continue to work together collaboratively on solutions that uphold safety, mutual respect, and accountability, while ensuring youth continue to have access to the game they love.' The statement goes on to say that they will work on long-term solutions to uphold safety and mutual respect. Bedoui says she believes this has been a teaching moment, and a chance to show their children how to be part of a caring community. 'It's a collective thing, it's not just about diversity and inclusion. It's about teaching our children how to be community. The messaging that we're teaching them is a message that's going to build a stronger and healthier future and community for all of us, not just soccer players.'
