
Ex-Googlers build a new tool that turns ideas into viral videos in 60 seconds
Founded in 2022 by two former Google employees, OpenArt is riding the wave of internet culture with over 3 million monthly users. The company recently launched a 'One-Click Story' feature in open beta that lets anyone turn a single sentence, a script or even a song into a 60-second video with a proper beginning, middle and ending.
This feature isn't just for creating silly TikToks, but it can also be used to make explainer videos, music videos and ads. Users can pick from three styles, namely, Character Vlog, Music Video, or Explainer. You can upload your own character image, add a prompt, and let the tool bring it to life.
Editing made simple
OpenArt's editing interface functions as a digital storyboard, enabling users to refine individual scenes for a more polished final product. The platform integrates technology from more than 50 advanced visual-generation tools to ensure both visual and narrative consistency, an area where many video creation platforms still face limitations.
However, the platform's ease of use also raises questions around intellectual property (IP) rights. Some users attempt to generate videos featuring well-known characters such as Pikachu or SpongeBob, potentially infringing on copyrights.
As reported by TechCrunch, Coco Mao, co-founder and CEO of OpenArt says 'We try to be cautious around the IP infringement. When you upload some IP characters, by default, the models we use will reject them, and it's not able to produce the IP character, but sometimes it slips.'
While OpenArt's system is designed to block such content by default, the company acknowledges that certain instances may bypass these blocks. Discussions with major IP holders regarding potential licensing agreements are underway to mitigate this risk.
Growth and future roadmap
Looking ahead, OpenArt plans to enhance its One-Click Story feature by enabling interactions between multiple characters within the same video. The company is also developing a mobile application to make content creation accessible on the go.
How the platform operates
The platform operates on a credit-based subscription model with four tiers. The entry-level plan is priced at $14 per month and includes 4,000 credits that are enough for up to four One-Click stories, 40 videos, 4,000 images, and four characters. The advanced plan, at $30 per month, offers 12,000 credits and supports up to 12 One-Click stories. For heavier users, the Infinite plan provides 24,000 credits for $56 per month. There is a team plan as well that is available at $35 per member each month.
Since its launch, OpenArt has raised $5 million in funding from Basis Set Ventures and DCM Ventures. The company reports positive cash flow and projects its annual revenue to surpass $20 million.

The company has reportedly raised the alarm overindirect prompt injections, a form of attack that it says could target individuals, businesses and even governments. In a recent blog post, Google explained that unlike direct prompt injections, where hackers enter malicious commands into an AI tool, indirect attacks involve hiding harmful instructions within external sources such as emails, documents or calendar invites. Once processed, these instructions can trick the system into exposing sensitive information or carrying out unauthorised actions. 'With the rapid adoption of generative AI, a new wave of threats is emerging across the industry,' the company wrote, warning that the risk becomes more significant as AI is used more widely for professional and personal tasks. Technology expert Scott Polderman toldThe Daily Record that attackers are exploiting Gemini, Google's own AI chatbot, to conduct such scams. He explained that malicious code can be concealed within an email and, when read by Gemini, used to extract login details without the user realising. 'The danger is that people don't need to click on anything,' Polderman said. 'Hidden instructions can cause the AI to reveal passwords and other data, effectively turning the system against itself.' Google has reportedly said it has already begun rolling out new protections. These include strengthening its Gemini 2.5 model, introducing machine-learning systems to spot suspicious prompts, and adding wider security measures at the system level. According to the company, these layers are designed to raise the difficulty and expense of such attacks, forcing cybercriminals to use less subtle and more detectable methods. The warning comes amid growing concern about how artificial intelligence could be manipulated for malicious purposes, highlighting the potential risks of embedding AI tools into everyday services relied upon by billions of users worldwide.

How Google plans to ‘change' Play Store to avoid future fines in Europe
Google has announced a series of proposed changes to its Play Store in a move aimed at appeasing European Union (EU) regulators and avoiding hefty future penalties. These adjustments come in the wake of a stern warning from EU watchdogs in March, who accused Google of stifling competition by preventing third-party developers from directing customers to make app purchases outside the Android ecosystem. According to a report by Bloomberg, the proposed overhaul is designed to make it easier for developers to guide users away from the Play Store for transactions. This new policy will apply across 30 European countries. According to Google, apps will now be permitted to direct users to the web to complete purchases. Google Play Store adjustments to have revised conditions However, this shift is not without new conditions, as Google will introduce a revised fee structure to account for its operational costs, the report added. Under the new model, 'initial acquisition fees' for developers will see a reduction from 10% of transaction costs down to 3%. Despite this reduction, the company will implement a tiered fee structure for software makers. Google has also voiced concerns that allowing users to transact outside the Play Store's 'secure environment' could potentially lead to 'serious security threats.' Clare Kelly, Google's senior competition counsel, commented on the changes, stating, 'While we still have concerns that these changes could expose Android users to harmful content and make the app experience worse, we're updating our External Offers Program for the EU with revised fees and more options for Android developers' following extensive discussions with the European Commission. Apple App Store implemented similar adjustments earlier this year, even while pursuing a legal challenge against the regulatory clampdown.
