
SMK St Columba Talent Night returns with burst of colour, creativity

MIRI: After a five-year hiatus and for the first time since 2019, SMK St Columba made a spectacular comeback with its Talent Night 2025, turning the school hall into a vibrant stage of music, movement, and youthful energy.
Themed 'A Decade of Music', the evening featured more than 20 performances spanning cultural, contemporary, and martial arts genres.
Officiated by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, the event was a heartfel celebration of passion and artistic growth.
'Tonight is more than just a showcase of abilities – it is a celebration of passion, hard work, and the limitless potential within each and every student,' said Ting, urging the youth to continue exploring the arts as a path of personal development.
Also present was the Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, who described the event as a celebration of unity and talent.

'Events like this allow schools to discover the artistic gifts of their students, giving them the confidence to nurture and grow their talents,' he said, adding that co-curricular activities play a vital role in holistic student development.
In his welcoming speech, Principal Jimbun Masam extended gratitude to all who contributed to the event's success, especially the 250 student performers and crew, led by organising chairman Anselm Kho.

Highlights of the night included traditional dances representing Sarawak's diverse ethnic groups, a soulful sape performance, martial arts demonstrations featuring taekwondo and wushu, K-pop dance covers, band sets and vocal performances, as well as instrumental music by the school's brass band and Chinese orchestra.
The event drew enthusiastic applause from parents, teachers, alumni, and the wider school community, all responding warmly to the performers' dedication and creativity.
In conjunction with the event, Ting announced an RM200,000 allocation under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to upgrade the school's basketball court.

He expressed hope that the improved facilities would foster greater student involvement in co-curricular activities.
The organisers also thanked the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Lembaga Pengelola Sekolah (LPS), and the Alumni Association for their unwavering support in making the concert a success.

K-pop Fans Defend CRAVITY's Unique Concept Photos For Upcoming Album
Fans are always eagerly awaiting their favourite K-pop idol groups to make a comeback. As part of the promotional campaign, agencies often publish concept photos of the group members to tease fans about the overall theme of the album. There have been many instances where a particular member's concept photos have broken the internet due to their visuals, but in CRAVITY (크래비티)'s case, it's for an entirely different reason. The group made waves online over the weekend, with K-pop fans divided over just how unusual their concept photos are. The group recently underwent a lineup change, with new leadership now consisting of the original members and Hyeongjun. As such, the concept photos for their upcoming album 'Dare to Crave' are expected to reflect the boy band's current journey. On 14th June (Saturday), the group released the concept images, which depict each member, dressed in white, hatching and crawling out of an egg, covered in some sort of translucent fluid. As soon as the photos were published, many expressed shock and even disgust at the somewhat unsettling visuals. According to Allkpop, some fans have expressed disappointment with the creative team for portraying the idols in questionable poses and using unsettling imagery. Fortunately, however, the majority of reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Many came to the group's defence, stating that the imagery of them hatching from eggs perfectly symbolises their rebranding — or in other words, their rebirth. After unfortunately getting scammed over tickets to BABYMONSTER's (베이비몬스터) upcoming show, this fan revealed a netizen's kind gesture. Over the weekend, Twitter user Saffa (@/saffazaidii) went onto the social media platform to share her unfortunate experience of getting scammed over concert tickets. The K-pop fan revealed that she had paid RM820 to a person selling tickets to K-pop group BABYMONSTER's upcoming concert at Axiata Arena. Sadly, it turned out that the ticket seller was a scammer, and Saffa lost nearly RM900. Adding to netizens' shock, the scammer is a repeat offender and has scammed many others for multiple concerts. The Twitter post has since gone viral, raking over 2 million views. The sharing also sparked discussion about concert ticket scams, including how to spot a scammer and what people can do to avoid getting scammed. While netizens continued to discuss the issue, Saffa revealed a heartwarming turn to the situation. After sharing her dilemma, Saffa revealed a message from a fellow K-pop fan, Balqis (@/qishhed). As shown in the message, Balqis offered Saffa her BABYMONSTER concert ticket as she could no longer attend the show because her mother was admitted to the hospital. Even more heartwarming, she offered to give the ticket for free in return for prayers for her sick mother. Saffa said she was so touched by the kind gesture that she started crying out of happiness.
