Special DigiLocker technology for nurses' registration

The Hindu14-07-2025
For what is touted to be the first time in the country, a special DigiLocker-based technology developed by the Karnataka State Nursing Council for the registration of nurses is being implemented.
In a press release, Sharanaprakash Patil, Minister for medical education, said that the new technology, which facilitates the issuance of registration certificates through Aadhaar-based DigiLocker e-KYC, will be officially launched on Tuesday, July 15 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The system has been developed in collaboration with UIDAI, C-eG, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and the Karnataka State Nursing Examination Board, the minister stated.
With this technology, the Karnataka State Nursing Council can directly retrieve personal data, address, photo, and other details of nurses from the Aadhaar server through e-KYC. Previously, nursing candidates from various districts had to travel to the Council's central office in Bengaluru for registration, minister explained.
New technology to avoid hassles
Nurses from within and outside the State were forced to spend thousands of rupees on food and accommodation solely for registration purposes. They also had to wait in long queues at the Bengaluru office. Many women, pregnant women and new mothers faced considerable inconvenience. Dr. Patil said that the implementation of this new technology puts an end to all these issues.
Helps prevent forgery
The new DigiLocker-Requester technology enables the Karnataka Nursing Council to directly fetch Aadhaar cards, SSLC and PUC marks cards, and other certificates from respective examination boards. Using technology adopted by RGUHS and the Karnataka State Nursing Examination Board, examination results will be directly accessed by the Nursing Council. Later, through DigiLocker-Issuer, registration certificates will be issued directly to nurses.

Dr Reddys profit rises marginally to Rs 1,410 cr in Jun qtr

New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Wednesday reported a marginal increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,410 crore in the June quarter, aided by sustained growth in Europe and India. The Hyderabad-based drug major posted a net profit of Rs 1,392 crore in the year-ago period. Consolidated revenue rose 11 per cent to Rs 8,545 crore in the period under review from Rs 7,673 crore a year earlier. 'We delivered double-digit growth this quarter over the same period last year, reflecting our strength in branded markets and positive momentum in the Nicotine Replacement Therapy portfolio," Dr Reddy's Co-Chairman & MD G V Prasad said. The pricing pressure on Lenalidomide is expected to intensify in the US generics market, he noted. 'We remain focused on strengthening our base business by delivery of our pipeline assets, improving overall productivity and business development," Prasad said. The company noted that growth during the quarter was broad-based, aided by contributions from the acquired consumer healthcare portfolio in nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and sustained performance in the company's branded markets. In the North American market, its revenue declined by 11 per cent year-on-year to Rs 3,412 crore in the June quarter as compared with Rs 3,846 crore in the year-ago period. The decline was primarily due to increased price erosion in certain key products, including Lenalidomide, it stated. In Europe, the company reported a revenue of Rs 1,274 crore for the first quarter as compared with Rs 526 crore in the year-ago period. The growth in Europe was largely driven by revenues from the acquired NRT portfolio and incremental contributions from new product launches, though partly offset by price erosion, it stated. In India, revenue stood at Rs 1,471 crore against Rs 1,325 crore, a growth of 11 per cent year-on-year. Growth for the quarter was driven by introduction of new products, price increases and commercial execution, Dr Reddy's said. Shares of the company ended 0.58 per cent up at Rs 1,247.55 apiece on the BSE. IHH inks Fortis-Gleneagles O&M deal to strengthen pan-India platform

Under the agreement, Fortis will manage operations of six Gleneagles hospitals and one clinic, earning a monthly fee and expanding its bed capacity and national presence Sanket Koul New Delhi In a bid to consolidate its healthcare presence in India, Malaysian healthcare major IHH on Wednesday announced an operation and maintenance (O&M) services agreement between its two subsidiary companies—Fortis Healthcare and Gleneagles Healthcare India (GHIPL). As part of the agreement, Fortis will manage the operations of five out of the six hospitals and one clinic under the Gleneagles India network. The agreement will become effective for the sixth hospital—Gleneagles BGS Hospital in Karnataka—upon receipt of acceptance and acknowledgment from certain third parties. The move expands Fortis' geographic footprint by increasing beds under its management, and provides incremental revenue and improves profitability through direct service fees. As part of the deal, Fortis will be entitled to receive a monthly service fee at the rate of 3 per cent of the net revenue of GHIPL's hospitals business on a consolidated basis, which stood at Rs 718.5 crore as of March 31, 2025. Fortis' consolidated revenue stood at Rs 7,783 crore for the full financial year 2024–25 (FY25), of which Rs 6,528 crore came from its hospital business. The healthcare major currently has 4,750 operational beds, including O&M beds, in 27 facilities. It recorded 69 per cent bed occupancy, generating an average revenue of Rs 2.42 crore per occupied bed in FY25. The Delhi-based chain, however, added that the arrangement with Gleneagles is being done on an arm's length basis, as determined by an independent financial adviser. 'The arrangement does not entail any acquisition and is only for the provision of O&M services,' Fortis said in a regulatory filing on the exchanges. The filing also stated that GHIPL shall bear all third-party and out-of-pocket expenses incurred by Fortis, in the manner laid down in the definitive documents. Commenting on the deal, Prem Kumar Nair, group chief executive officer of IHH, said the O&M services agreement reflects the company's commitment to long-term growth in one of its most important markets. He added that this is being done by deepening collaboration to enhance patient care and outcomes and drive greater operational efficiencies.
