X says French accusations of data tampering and fraud are politically motivated
X was responding to an announcement earlier this month from the Paris prosecutor's office, which said it was opening an investigation into the two alleged offences.
Both offences involved an 'automated data processing system', according to prosecutors, who provided few details of the alleged wrongdoing.
They are potentially punishable in France with a jail term of up to 10 years.
The platform said French authorities were carrying out a 'politically-motivated criminal investigation into X over the alleged manipulation of its algorithm and alleged 'fraudulent data extraction''.
'X categorically denies these allegations,' it said in a post from its Global Government Affairs account.

The prosecutor's office has said it acted on information that two people provided in January to its cyber crimes unit.
One of them is a member of parliament, and the other is a senior official in a French government institution. It did not identify them or the institution.
Prosecutors said the two people alleged suspected use of X's algorithm for the 'purposes of foreign interference', without providing details.
The platform said it 'remains in the dark' about the the specific allegations.
'However, based on what we know so far, X believes that this investigation is distorting French law in order to serve a political agenda and, ultimately, restrict free speech.'
The Paris prosecutor's office said that it has asked X to grant police investigators access to its algorithm, as part of the probe.
The request was made in a letter last week, it said. It said that 'investigators are bound by confidentiality and that only those in charge of the investigation will have access'.
The office said it has not had a formal response from X.

Letters: The scale of destruction and death by Israeli action is impossible to justify
Many believe the killings are intentional, despite the excuses or lies used by Israel to justify its killings. They regard it as the Israeli state's way of stopping the flow of on-the-ground news that captures the horrifying spectacle we see on our TVs each and every day. How can the intentional targeting of 1,400 medical staff, working in hospitals in Gaza, since the October 7 attacks by Hamas and its proxies, be justified? Where is the justification for the targeted killing of 61,430 people and over 200 who have starved to death, or those who have been killed in the process of trying to get food? While we need to see the end of Hamas and its militant comrades, with the release of hostages, how can America or those who supply weapons to Israel justify so much death and destruction? While we have condemned atrocities on both sides of this conflict, with a hamstrung and ineffective UN Security Council incapable of doing anything to stop this conflict, and an America under Donald Trump a willing participator that supplies weapons to this genocide, who will be held to account when this war is finally over? The tragedy of the Irish Tricolour emanated in 'political' hatred in the aftermath of the Civil War and the 1926 split in Sinn Féin. Tesla set to enter UK's domestic energy market
Elon Musk's Tesla is plotting to enter the British energy market and supply households in the coming months. The company has sought approval for an energy licence from UK regulator Ofgem in order to take on energy supply giants including British Gas owner Centrica and Octopus Energy. It hopes to start supplying energy to homes and businesses in England, Scotland and Wales as soon as next year. Tesla Energy Ventures applied for the licence last month, according to a new filing published by Ofgem. The application was signed by Andrew Payne, director of the group's energy business in Europe. The electric car manufacturer, run by the world's richest man, also has a solar energy and battery storage business. It comes around two years after Tesla first started hiring for a head of operations to run its proposed energy supply business. Tesla has been involved in the UK energy market since 2020, when it was granted a licence to be an electricity generator. In the US, the group has been an electricity supplier in Texas for the past three years. It comes amid a backdrop of waning demand for Tesla's electric vehicles across Europe in recent months, though Tesla sales in Ireland are down just 4.4% this year overall.
