Lionel Messi left red-faced as rare blunder costs Inter Miami a goal... before he makes up for it perfectly

Daily Mail8 hours ago
Lionel Messi 's rare blunder in the opening minutes of Inter Miami's game against CF Montreal left him red-faced. The living legend found a way, as he usually does, to make up for it by the game's final whistle.
Messi made a back pass that hit Montreal striker Prince Owusu in stride, which he slotted home for the game's opening goal in the second minute.
The Argentine legend put his head down for a few moments before showing why, even after a critical error, he can still show why he is a living legend.
Inter Miami tied the game in the 33rd minute on a Tadeo Allende strike before Messi got in on the scoring himself.
Messi put the Talons up 2-1 in the 40th minute, before finding the back of the net again in the 62nd to cap off the dominant 4-1 win for Inter Miami.
Hardly anyone held that second-minute blunder against Messi after the game went final.
The living Argentine legend made up for it by scoring a brace in Inter Miami's 4-1 win in Canada
Messi just wrapped up Club World Cup duty with Inter Miami, helping the Talons become the only American team to advance out of the group stage.
That will be the last high-profile international tournament he plays in until next summer's World Cup, which will also take place mainly in the United States as Argentina looks to defend its title.
Messi is under contract with Inter Miami through the end of the MLS season, with a move for the living legend still on the table for the 38-year-old.
However, Messi is still moving around the pitch with more ease than most will ever see.
In 14 league matches this season, Messi has 12 goals and six assists for Inter Miami, including his brace on Saturday night.

Fifa cuts ticket price to $13.40 for Club World Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Fluminense

Fifa cut standard ticket prices for the semi-final between Chelsea and Fluminense at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Tuesday to $13.40 from $473.90 earlier in the past week. Fifa has used dynamic pricing for the 63-game tournament. Standard ticket prices for Wednesday's semi-final between European champion Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in New Jersey start at $199.60. Fifa had dropped ticket prices to $11.15 for a quarter-final in Orlando, Florida, between Fluminense and Al Hilal. and in Philadelphia between Chelsea and Palmeiras. The dramatic drop in prices was first reported by the Athletic. Many matches during the tournament have had sparse crowds. Real Madrid has been an exception, drawing at least 60,000 for all five of their matches, including 76,611 for their quarter-final win Saturday over Borussia Dortmund in New Jersey.

Revealed: Who Cleveland Browns players want as their starting quarterback with Shedeur Sanders in four-way race

It has been revealed who Cleveland Browns players want as their starting quarterback entering next season. It is a four-man race to become the team's starting quarterback with the void left by Deshaun Watson, who is likely out for the season with an Achilles injury. Hoping for the opportunity is the rookie duo of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, alongside fellow veteran Kenny Pickett. Yet, the roster prefers to have Joe Flacco under center in Week 1, including the influential Myles Garrett, per Flacco is in his second tour of duty with Cleveland, having led the team to the playoffs during the 2023 season before spending one year with the Indianapolis Colts. Sanders was viewed as a sneaky choice to start in Week 1 after his NFL Draft fall from top prospect to fifth-round selection. The team is likely to retain all four quarterbacks into the regular season, as most franchises typically have three on the active roster, while one is a practice-squad member. The practice-squad designation looks to be between the two rookies, as Pickett looks to have the second-easiest route to being the starter due to his NFL experience. Flacco, 40, is not the team's long-term answer at quarterback, with his possible insertion as the signal caller coming as a way to give the Browns time to make that decision. Pickett is already on his third NFL team after a promising start to his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That did not last as the team preferred Russell Wilson and Justin Fields before both of those signal callers left for separate New York teams. It is only a few weeks before the start of training camp, and less than two months until the start of the NFL season. Only time will tell if the Browns locker room will get its wish.

Cole Palmer on 'difficult times' at Chelsea – 'He's always been there for me'

It has been a difficult year for Cole Palmer at Chelsea and he is the first to admit that 2025 has not quite gone the way he was hoping at Stamford Bridge, but one team-mate has always supported him Cole Palmer has admitted that he has been leaning on Chelsea team-mate Tosin Adarabioyo, after a difficult year at Stamford Bridge. Palmer, 23, began the last campaign in explosive fashion, contributing 14 goals and six assists in 21 Premier League games. However, from January 14 until the end of the campaign, he only got three assists and one goal, which was a penalty i n the Blues' 3-1 home victory over Liverpool. Palmer finished the campaign with a brace of assists in Chelsea's Europa Conference League triumph over Real Betis, but the second half of the campaign fell below his standards. ‌ He also started the Club World Cup slowly, failing to make a goal contribution in the first two games, before providing an assist against Benfica and scoring a wonderful goal in the quarter-final win over Palmeiras. After the latter, Palmer admitted he has often struggled with the pressure, on and off the field. ‌ Guiding him through this process has been experienced Chelsea defender Adarabioyo who, as a former Manchester City academy star himself, has known the midfielder since he was a promising teenager. When asked why he specifically looked for Adarabioyo while he was celebrating his strike against the Brazilians, Palmer said: "That's my boy. "Obviously, I've had a difficult time these past whatever months on and off the pitch, but he's always been there for me and he's helped me a lot. So, yeah, I just thought I'd go over to him." Before their round of 16 clash against Benfica, the ex-Fulham central defender came to Palmer's defence, backing his friend to come back to form. Referring to the many banners in the United States that have made Palmer one of the faces of the Club World Cup, Adarabioyo told reporters: "I've known Cole since he was a young boy so even me seeing him on those big banners makes me very, very proud. "I think people do forget that he's still 22, 23 years of age and he's one of the faces of this tournament. Obviously his life has changed in the past two years. "I banter him some time and tell him he's a little superstar. But yeah, he handles it very well. He knows his focus is brilliant on football. He loves playing football and that's Cole Palmer for you. ‌ "You say he's receiving a lot of scrutiny. I don't think Cole really looks at that and us as team-mates aren't really looking at that. "He performs at a very high level every time he steps on the pitch. So our job is not just to help Cole Palmer but every single player on the pitch perform as well as they can." ‌ Chelsea face Fluminese for a place in the Club World Cup final on Tuesday, July 8. They will be the third Brazilian side the Blues have faced in the USA, having lost 3-1 to Flamengo and beaten Palmeiras 2-1. The Blues will be reunited with Fluminese central defender and Chelsea legend Thiago Silva, who won the Champions League with the west Londoners. The South Americans have been one of the surprise packages of the tournament, having drawn with Borussia Dortmund, beaten Inter Milan and most recently knocked out Al-Hilal, who had seen off Manchester City.
