Delhi HC restrains Kuku FM from streaming new episodes amid Pocket FM's copyright lawsuit

India Gazette10-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Thursday restrained audio platform Kuku FM from airing new episodes, acting on allegations of copyright and trademark infringement raised by rival Pocket FM.
Pocket FM has filed a lawsuit seeking 10 million dollars (approximately Rs 80 crore) in damages, alleging over 30 instances of unauthorised copying by Kuku FM.
The order was passed by Justice Saurabh Banerjee, who directed Kuku FM not to release any further episodes of the contested shows and to submit details related to the content in question.
Senior Advocate Amit Sibal, appearing for Pocket FM and briefed by law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, argued that Kuku FM had engaged in 'wholesale and systematic copying' of Pocket FM's original content, including show titles, characters, posters, and entire storylines.
He emphasised that Pocket FM had spent years developing a robust content strategy, which Kuku FM was now exploiting for unfair commercial gain.
Among the examples presented, Sibal pointed out that Kuku FM had replicated Pocket FM's popular show Shoorveer, including the use of an almost identical poster, indicating clear and deliberate imitation.
In another instance, Kuku FM allegedly uploaded full episodes of Insta Millionaire, retaining Pocket FM's branding in the voiceover, instructing listeners to log in to the Pocket FM app.
To preserve key evidence, Pocket FM has also sought the appointment of a local commissioner to inspect Kuku FM's platform and prevent tampering. Sibal further argued that despite facing multiple lawsuits in the past, Kuku FM continues to copy content without any justification or corrective measures.
In response, Kuku FM's counsel, Advocate Saikrishna Rajagopal, contended that the shows had been available on its platform since June 2024 and claimed that Pocket FM's legal action was delayed. He argued that the plaintiff had not made a clear case for urgent interim relief. Nevertheless, the Court restrained Kuku FM from airing new episodes and listed the matter for further hearing on August 29. (ANI)

Kingdom Box Office: Vijay Deverakonda starrer collects 44cr worldwide in 2 days

Telugu film Kingdom held moderately well on its second day at the Indian box office, grossing Rs. 9.50 crore approx. The two-day running total of the Vijay Deverakonda starrer is Rs. 27.75 crore approx. The film has collected another Rs. 16 crore (USD 1.85 million) overseas, giving it a worldwide gross of Rs. 43.75 crore. The film is expected to see a surge in business today and again on Sunday. If the growth on the weekend is good, it could aim for Rs. 55 crore extended weekend in India and Rs. 75 crore worldwide. The Day Wise Box Office Collections of Kingdom in India are as follows: While the box office numbers so far are not bad, the high production costs demanded a far stronger opening and a steadier hold. The film now needs to get that big growth on the weekend and then sustain well from there on. This isn't typically associated with Telugu films, which are usually very front-loaded, but that is exactly what Kingdom requires. There are also dubbed versions, which can often lend a helping hand in case of higher investment, but they haven't done so. Tamil has managed some numbers, not enough to make a real impact, while Hindi is a washout. Overseas, the film did well on its North American premiere but hasn't sustained well with collections coming down on the following two days. The Territorial Breakdown for Kingdom is as follows:

Kriti Sanon's skincare brand achieved Rs 400 crore in two years: ‘Targeting at Rs 1,200 crore next'

About two years ago, Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon launched her skincare company: Let's Hyphen. While she became the face of the brand, she collaborated with the team behind McCaffine, which was co-founded in 2016 by Tarun Sharma, Vaishali Gupta, Saurabh Singhal, Vikas Lachhwani and Mohit Jain. The same team pushed the growth of Let's Hyphen, which has achieved an annual revenue of Rs 400 crore in just two years. In a recent interview with CNBC-TV18, Kriti Sanon and Tarun Sharma shared the progress of their beauty brand. During their conversation, Kriti shared that she invested capital while building Hyphen. When asked the value, Tarun Sharma replied, 'Enough for us to scale in the first year.' Speaking about the targets they wanted to hit after achieving Rs 100 crore in the first year, Kriti shared, 'It was all part of our vision board. Actually Rs 100 crore came from the both of us. From the second year, whatever number he quoted, I just added a little and then aimed it because I know whatever he is saying, he is sure he can achieve it. So why not aim higher.' Tarun quickly added, 'She keeps on wishing. I say one number. For example: 'In four years, we will do this.' And she says, 'We can… but… can we do this?'' Kriti quickly corrected him, and said, 'No, this is his target.' Tarun then shared, 'Rs 1,000 crore is what I have set myself on. She is pushing for Rs 1,200 crore. We will see where we get.' Kriti said, 'I believe we can achieve Rs 1,000 crore in 2-3 years. So I have to push. You've got to dream bigger.' Explaining her ambition, Kriti shared, 'We thought of achieving Rs 400 crore in 2 years, but it happened in just 1 year. So I believe in my team and I know that we can do it.' Tarun laughed as he said, 'And good partners push each other.' Kriti said that she was apprehensive about the extra scrutiny that she'd get for becoming an entrepreneur, but she was prepared for it. 'Sometimes when it comes from a celebrity, there is a lot of scrutiny that happens. And I knew our products were good. So I didn't want to get unnecessary negativity because of my name being attached to Hyphen. Fortunately, I think some highs and lows we all have and that is all part of our journey,' she said.

Punjab Vigilance conducts searches at real estate baron Ranjit Singh Gill's residence, hours after he joined BJP

Less than 12 hours after prominent Punjab real estate developer Ranjit Singh Gill was inducted into the BJP by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau conducted a search at his Sector 2 residence in Chandigarh on Saturday. The search was ongoing till this report was filed. No one was being allowed to enter or leave the premises. Gill is the founder of the Gillco Group, a real estate development company based in Mohali, Punjab, and was the 'halka in-charge' of Kharar for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) till he quit the party in July. He was widely tipped to join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), especially after the sitting Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Maan announced her resignation and decision to quit politics on July 19. However, she took back her resignation the very next day. Gill is a real estate baron and agrarian entrepreneur who began his career in real estate in Ropar in 1990 before moving to Kharar, where he founded the Gillco Group. The company is known for developing luxury residential, commercial, entertainment, and educational projects, including the notable Gillco Valley township, one of the largest in Mohali, spread over nearly 200 acres. Beyond his business ventures, Gill has been politically active. He was a close confidant of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and served as the party's general secretary. He contested the Punjab Assembly elections from Kharar in 2017 and 2022 on an SAD ticket but was unsuccessful, finishing third in 2017 and losing to Mann in 2022. Gill's assets were reported to be worth Rs 74 crore in 2022, a significant increase from Rs 29 crore in 2017, as per his election affidavit. He faced an income tax raid in December 2022 at his Gillco Valley office and residences in Chandigarh, alongside associates, with cash recovered during the operation. Additionally, an FIR was registered against him in 2021 under the Disaster Management Act for gathering more than 10 people against the district commissioner's prohibitory orders in force.
