Isak standoff with Newcastle not ideal, says Howe
The 25-year-old Sweden international, who has netted 62 goals in all competitions since arriving for a club record fee in 2022, appears to be determined to leave Newcastle in this transfer window.
British media reported that champions Liverpool had a bid of 110 million pounds ($148.8 million) rejected for Isak, who scored 23 league goals last season as Newcastle finished fifth and qualified for the Champions League.
Isak has been training away from the squad and is unlikely to feature in Newcastle's opening fixture at Aston Villa on Saturday.
"It's not been ideal, I don't think it's been healthy for us, I'm not going to deny that. That's been a big, big challenge," Howe told the BBC.
"For me, Alex is one of the, if not the best, strikers in the world, so to miss him from your squad is a huge gap. The situation's ongoing, but we'll have to find a way without him (at Villa Park)."
Howe acknowledged that squad morale took a hit during pre-season when Isak trained alone at his old club Real Sociedad while Newcastle were on tour in Asia.
"It was always going to be there when you've got a player that good, not part of your group. It's difficult for the players to fully understand it," Howe said.
"But as time's gone on, there's been an acceptance that this is the squad and we've got to make the best of the situation. That's always been my train of thought. We have moved forward and the atmosphere of the group has been very good."

Women's World Cup hails huge ticket sales
LONDON :Organisers of the Women's Rugby World Cup, which begins when hosts England play the United States on Friday, have announced ticket sales that have totally dwarfed previous tournaments, including an 82,000 Twickenham sellout for the final. At a press conference on Tuesday it was announced that 375,000 of the 470,000 available tickets have been sold. That is three times the number at the last tournament in New Zealand in 2022 and more than 10 times the 30,000 for the last World Cup held in England in 2010. This year's final on September 27 will smash the record for a women's international, which is the 58,498 at the same stadium for England v France in the 2023 Six Nations. The match, and the third-place playoff that precedes it on the same day, are the only games of the tournament to be played in London. "We are very confident the final will be the most attended women's rugby match in history, easily surpassing the 66,000 crowd that we saw in Paris in 2024 (for the Olympic Sevens)," said Gill Whitehead, chair of the 2025 Rugby World Cup. "I started playing women's rugby 30 years ago, I've absolutely loved it, but the prospect of the girls running out the tunnel and playing to the three tiers of Allianz, packed to the rafters. Morecambe appoint Johal as first Sikh professional manager in England
LONDON :Ashvir Singh Johal has become the first Sikh to coach a professional club in England after being named as first-team manager at fifth-tier Morecambe on Tuesday. The 30-year-old is also the youngest manager in the top-five tiers of English soccer. "He arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium with an excellent reputation as a forward thinking coach and leader, bringing a wealth of experience in player development, tactical innovation, and building high-performance cultures," the club said.
