Levitt Pavilion's summer concert series in MacArthur Park to continue despite ICE raids
After canceling its first performance of the season on June 21, Levitt LA returned to its scheduled programming on June 28 with a performance from rock band Dengue Fever. The stage will welcome musical performances every Saturday through Aug. 30, featuring acts like Medusa, Eddie Chacon, Wazumbians, La Resistencia, Kinky and Redd Kross.
'I have nothing but respect and utmost gratitude for the team and artists who want to move forward. Why should this stop in MacArthur Park?' Levitt LA executive director Allegra Padilla said.
'Our safety is not guaranteed in places that are supposed to be our sanctuaries, like hospitals, schools and other places, so we might as well continue to come together in the heart of our city and enjoy the vibrant and beautiful culture that makes L.A. unique,' she added.
Close to 2,800 people have been arrested in the L.A. area since the raids began in early June, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Federal agents, accompanied by members of the National Guard, descended on MacArthur Park on Monday morning to carry out enforcement operations. Rumors of ICE activity had spread in the Westlake area prior to the sweeps. It's unclear if anyone was arrested.
Levitt LA has been hosting free concerts for the past 18 years. In previous years, the outdoor stage has held performances from Grammy-winning band Los Lobos, cumbia group Sonora Dinamita and L.A. rock band La Santa Cecilia.
Padilla added that the concerts will be streamed live on its Facebook page and YouTube channel for members of the community who are 'afraid to leave their homes' because of the ICE raids. The organization will also be hiring private security for the event and providing safety tips on knowing your rights when dealing with immigration through their social media accounts.
Padilla said Levitt LA is prepared to pivot to a different venue in case MacArthur Park is not a place where programming can continue.
'We're lucky to have a network of venues that are willing to support us in the case that we may have to make a shift,' she added.
Attendance numbers were low during its last event compared to previous years, but Padilla hopes the public continues to enjoy the arts that 'will get us through these tough times.'
'The heart of creativity and our joy is the resistance and unity that we need at this moment.'
The canceled performance scheduled for June 21 by the cumbia band Vilma Díaz y la Sonora will be rescheduled to July 26.

YouTube Adds Video Title Testing Option in YouTube Studio
This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. YouTube's announced the next stage of its thumbnail testing rollout, with more users now able to access the feature within the 'Test and Compare' element in YouTube Studio, adding another means to optimize your YouTube content performance. And it's also now adding video title testing into the mix. As explained by YouTube: 'We're starting to experiment with a feature that gives creators the ability to test titles as well as thumbnails using our 'Test & compare' feature in Studio. We're rolling this out to a small percentage of creators at first, but we'll keep you posted on our plans to expand it to more creators.' So YouTube will now let you try out titles as well, as a means to determine the most engaging, attention-grabbing elements for your video uploads. That could be a valuable addition, providing more means to glean feedback on optimal content approaches before full publishing. YouTube originally announced that it was developing its thumbnail A/B testing feature in June 2023, and then launched an initial test with selected creators last year. As you can see in this example, YouTube's thumbnail comparison testing enables channel managers to upload up to three thumbnail images, which are then sample tested with YouTube users. As explained by YouTube: 'YouTube will show your chosen thumbnails evenly across your videos viewers and will select a winning thumbnail based on which one generates the most watch time share.' YouTube says that it's optimizing for watch time on this element because it believes that this metric is the best way to guide your content strategy decisions, and 'support your chances of success on the platform.' In other words, YouTube wants you to focus on this element to grow your channel, which means that it's the key thing that drives exposure and reach. The same process will seemingly now be applied to video titles as well, giving you another feedback option to better align your content with your audience. It could be a valuable addition, especially when you consider that top YouTubers like MrBeast spend significant amounts of time and money on thumbnail and title development, in order to maximize their video performance. Indeed, Mr Beast claims to have a team of six people that develop and test his video thumbnails, trying out up to 20 variations for each of his clips. Titles testing adds another aspect to this, ensuring more data-backed approaches to maximize your YouTube clips. Unreleased Beyoncé music stolen during 'Cowboy Carter' tour
Unreleased music by Beyoncé along with footage, show plans and concert set lists were stolen from a car in Atlanta rented by the singer's choreographer and one of her dancers, according to a police incident report. The theft of the materials, stored on five thumb drives, happened on July 8, two days before Beyoncé began a four-day residency at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Beyoncé was set to take the stage Monday evening for her last night in the city. The Atlanta Police Department said in a news release Monday it has secured an arrest warrant for a suspect whose identity was withheld. Two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, as well as luxury clothing and accessories were also reported stolen, according to the incident report. Beyoncé's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue told police they parked their rental car, a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, at a food hall in the city at about 8:09 p.m. The pair returned to the car just after 9 p.m. to discover the trunk window had been damaged and two suitcases had been taken. Grant told officers that 'he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyonce,' the police incident report stated. The report identifies a possible suspect vehicle as a 2025 red Hyundai Elantra. Responding officers were able to identify 'light prints' at the scene, and security cameras in the parking lot captured the incident, according to the report. Officers canvassed an area where the stolen laptop and headphones were tracked by using the devices' location services, the report stated. Beyoncé kicked off her highly-anticipated tour in late April, taking her Grammy-winning album, 'Cowboy Carter,' to stadiums in the U.S. and Europe. The singer will end her tour with two Las Vegas nights in late July.
