The Christmas special has not always been guaranteed, but after last year's explosive dinner party, bosses are keen to replicate the same fiery drama and meltdowns.
A source told The Sun: "In the past, the show has skipped the festive episodes for a few years, but it recently returned and has been on a series by series basis.
"They review it each year and decide - it comes down to a lot of stuff, including budgets and also how much good footage they get while shooting the previous series.
"At the moment, as everyone knows, cash is quite tight at ITV and they have made some big cutbacks across the board, including, most famously, across ITV Daytime.
"But Towie is still a flagship show for ITV2 and bosses have decided to do another Christmas special.
"The latest series they shot is really juicy and they are thrilled with it, so they definitely want to capture more drama to go out over the party season."
The Sun has reached out to ITV for comment
Towie bosses are set to share the official announcement closer to the time - but it is said to be full steam ahead.
The Sun has reached out to ITV for comment.
The new series will feature Celebrity Big Brother star Ella Rae Wise's reunion with Dancing On Ice's Dan Edgar since their split.

Fans will also get to see Junaid Ahmed and Joe Blackman take the next step in their relationship.
But viewers will have to wait a little longer before they see Amy Childs and Billy Delbosq walk down the aisle, after she announced that she was postponing her wedding until next year.
With ITVBe now closing, the programme is returning to its original home on ITV2 from Autumn 2025.
Ahead of the move, TOWIE will be reverting to airing twice a week.
It will see a new midweek episode joining the usual Sunday instalment.
This was the show's original screening pattern but it reverted to one episode per week back in 2018.
A source said: 'ITV want to make a big splash with the show returning to its original home on ITV2 with the closure of ITVBe.
"It's one of their flagship shows and it's still one of ITVX's most streamed shows with 66 million streams in the last 12 months alone.
"Bosses think it's high time the show was reinstated to airing twice a week, just like it did in its original heyday.
"It's amazing news for fans who will be getting double their fix of drama, and the cast are thrilled too.
"It's a huge vote of confidence in the show after all these years on air.'
Earlier this year, it was revealed bosses were making ITV2 the home of reality TV, with all future series broadcasting from there.
An insider said at the time: " ITV has seen incredible success and record breaking numbers of viewers on ITV2, so following that success they'll be shutting ITVBe and moving Towie onto ITV2, which will now be the home of reality.
"ITVBe shuts in June, then the new series of Towie will debut on ITV2 in Autumn."

Coronation Street star confirms final scenes have aired as he leaves show after just six months

CORONATION Street star Joe Layton has confirmed his final scenes have aired as villain Mick Michaelis. The actor joined the soap six months ago as thug Mick for a short stint on the cobbles. 2 Actor Joe Layton has confirmed his final Coronation Street scenes have aired 2 Mick and Lou were brought in for a specific storyline on the cobbles Credit: ITV And now Mick has been sent to prison for murdering Craig Tinker earlier this year, he's confirmed his time on the show is over. Commenting to a fan who said: "I swear to god that better be Mick's last scene. #Corrie," the soap star replied: "Affirmative. Loved my time on the cobbles!" The actor's final scenes played out after a failed prison break that saw Mick banged up for good. In Wednesday's episode he made one final appearance from prison to speak to son Brody. Brody told his dad he would get the girls and they'd move to be near whatever prison he ended up. But in a chilling scene, Mick turned on Brody and disowned him. 'You finished? Because I'll be honest lad, all I hear is a lot of whining. You seriously think I want to see you again after all of this? 'And don't you dad me. Don't you dare call me that ever again. Ever again, do you hear me? I'm not your dad and I never was. 'You think I want to see you? Have you come visit me? Don't make me laugh. You or the girls. Or your mum. Any of you. 'But especially you Brody because the others, at least they're family but you are nothing to me. Coronation Street quietly recast show legend's daughter - just weeks after original star 'disappeared' from soap 'The one good thing to come from this is not having you as a son anymore. You're his, and that disgusts me. You disgust me and I…' Mick put the phone down, hid it under his bed as the guards opened the door to him. Head in his hands, that was Mick's final appearance on Coronation Street.

BREAKING: Love Island star Harrison Solomon at centre of explosive storyline quits in tears

Love Island star Harrison Solomon has reportedly quit the series after being involved in a tense love triangle. The Miami-based Derby contestant has been conflicted between choosing Las Vegas icon Toni Laites and Casa Amor star Lauren Wood while leaving them both in tears over his inability to pick between the two gorgeous girls. However, it looks like the decision no longer needs to be made as the star has reportedly left the Spanish villa on Thursday night, with a source claiming he "decided to quit" after struggling over the last few days: "Everyone was so shocked and people were crying and hugging him." Save £40 on a family day to Chessington World of Adventures this summer holiday "He worked through everything with the ITV duty of care team and is making his way home to his family now," it was claimed to The Sun. It comes as viewers watched as the contestants ranked the others based on questions provided to them by the general public. Questions included, 'Which couple is coasting?', 'Who is the biggest game player?' and 'Who is in the most one-sided relationship?' Unsurprisingly, Harrison and Toni, Dejon Williams and Meg Moore and Harry Cooksley and Helena Ford were seen in the top three in most of the categories. Meanwhile, Harrison asked Toni ahead of the recent recoupling to choose him even though he slept with Lauren the night before. In the end, she did choose him, leaving Cach Mercer and Lauren tearing up over their decision. "That was one of the most embarrassing things I've been through in my entire life… You knew what decision you wanted to make, you were just waiting for the go ahead from someone else," he told Toni. "I can't respect that. Good luck with your endeavours," he said as he was seen walking away after giving her a hug. He was later seen catching up with Ty on the terrace, as he broke down in tears as he became overwhelmed with emotion. In an emotional moment, Ty was seen wiping Cach's tears, as he admitted he was embarrassed. Toni's decision to pick Harrison confused viewers at home as Toni previously said she was done with Harrison. "He's all yours, girlfriend. I'm removing myself from this," she told Lauren. 'This is getting f**king ridiculous and it's making me nasty. He's lying to both of us. I can't keep doing this.' The Mirror have reached out to ITV for comment.

ITV period drama 'like spoonful after spoonful of splendid jam' streaming for free now

Home Fires, which is currently available to stream for free on UKTV, is set in a fictional rural Cheshire community and follows the lives of members of the Great Paxford Women's Institute Crafted by ITV, Home Fires stands as a British period drama that unfolded across two series. Conceived by Simon Block and jointly helmed by Robert Quinn and Bruce Goodinson, this 2015 historical television programme chronicles the experiences of Great Paxford Women's Institute members on the Home Front throughout World War II. ‌ Drawing inspiration from Julie Summers' novel Jambusters, Home Fires unfolds in Great Paxford, a fictitious rural Cheshire village, and centres on the women's experiences as they face wartime adversity, limited supplies, and personal challenges during the conflict whilst discovering innovative methods to discover resilience and meaning through collective endeavours. ‌ The programme's inaugural series spans from September 1939 through to early 1940, whilst its second series commences during the summer of 1940. Featuring an outstanding ensemble cast predominantly comprising women such as Francesca Annis, Samantha Bond, Leanne Best, Fenella Woolgar, and Claire Rushbrook, Home Fires attracted an average audience of 6.2 million throughout its debut series. The programme's second run achieved comparable triumph. ‌ Presently accessible to watch without charge on UKTV, the period drama maintains a flawless 100 per cent critics approval score on review aggregation platform Rotten Tomatoes, where it garnered glowing reviews, with one reviewer noting: "Home Fires offers British drama that's as satisfying as a warm cup of tea." As per the Express, another critic praised the series, saying: "It's more uplifting and affirming than challenging or surprising, and it is handsomely made with convincing period detail and a fine cast delivering top notch performances." Meanwhile, a third reviewer kept it simple, declaring: "This series is spoonful after spoonful of splendid jam." ‌ Viewers were equally smitten with the wartime drama, with one devotee gushing: "The name being Home Fires on Masterpiece, it doesn't lie about the Masterpiece part." Another fan raved: "Loved, loved, loved this series! ! Just heard they are doing a second season, hurray! Just good, clean TV about regular people dealing with irregular circumstances. Please continue the series." A third enthusiast observed: "The show follows several women and the challenges they face in supporting the war effort. Some of the story lines are more soap opera than others, but I am enjoying every minute." One admirer penned: "One of the many really good shows from England, Australia and New Zealand. Honest look at how life was during the Second World War. Shows the effect on the families and those left behind when the 'boys' go off to war." Just days following the airing of series two's final episode, ITV delivered crushing news that the programme wouldn't be returning for a third run - despite its triumph and leaving devoted fans absolutely gutted, who flocked to launching a campaign to resurrect the series, which gathered over 50,000 signatures. An ITV spokesperson announced: "The ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel's drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series." Despite a spirited campaign, efforts to save the show fell flat, leading to its official axing in 2016.
