Canadian wildfire smoke impacts Southern Tier air quality

Yahoo5 hours ago

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)— The Southern Tier was under an air quality advisory for 'fine particulate matter' because of the smoke from the wildfires burning in Canada on Saturday, June 7.
Doctors are recommending that people stay aware of the effects of unhealthy air conditions in the area.
'Smoke has started to move in because of the Canadian wildfires, and what we have been seeing these days with lots of sunshine and dry conditions, which makes it a lot easier for that smoke to move into our region,' said Alivia Colón, 18 Storm team meteorologist

There are several ways to determine if air quality is affecting an individual. The impact can occur over time.
'You may hear increased wheezing, moving around becomes a lot more challenging, such as climbing stairs or hills, you may also have other signs of irritation, such as cough, throat irritation, and other allergy-type symptoms,' said Bradley DeWitt, Centralus Health Physician Assistant.
Air quality affects everyone, even if it doesn't seem to do so. According to the Department of Ecology, State of Washington, exposure to smoke in the air can make existing heart and lung conditions worse.
NYSDEC issues air quality advisory for Southern Tier, Finger Lakes on Saturday & Sunday
'Smoke is smoke, it's not great for anybody's lungs, so I think when the air quality alert is issued, I think in general you should limit your time spent outside,' said Colón.
It is especially important for older individuals and people with pre-existing health conditions are more susceptible to stay up to date on air quality.

Strong storms and flooding across the Twin Tiers. Rain stops Tuesday, but returns midweek.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Rain is back in the forecast for part of the week. So get ready for that. There is a chance to dry out but Father's Day is looking pretty wet for now. Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms continue to move into the Twin tiers this evening and into the early morning hours too. There is a cold front that moves across the region brining us localized flash flooding that could close roads at low-water crossings. The heavy rain moves eastward through the overnight hours, however, further east the rainfall rates should decrease with the loss of instability because of the loss of heat from the sun after sunset. Some spots have seen warnings for both flash flooding and thunder storms with damaging winds this evening. Locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding are still possible due to all the recent rainfall. However, we are in for a better Tuesday afternoon. Drier conditions will take hold Tuesday and hang on through at least Wednesday. Don't get used to it. There is a potent shortwave and surface cold front about to cross the region mid-week and we stand to get more showers to wrap up the week. Please remember to turn around don't drown! Jack Nathan Health Provides Update on Filing of FY 2024–25 Financial Statements and Audit Progress

TORONTO, June 09, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jack Nathan Medical Corp. (TSXV: "JNH"; OTCQB: "JNHMF"), ("Jack Nathan Health", "JNH" or the "Company") announces that it was unable to file its audited consolidated financial statements, management's discussion and analysis (MD&A), and related CEO and CFO certifications for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2025 (collectively, the "Annual Filings") by the required deadline of May 31, 2025. The delay was primarily due to the complexity surrounding the Asset Purchase Agreement (APA) completed on December 1, 2024, under which the Company transferred its Canadian medical clinic business and operations to Well Health Technologies Corp. As part of this transaction, access to EMR systems, supporting documents, and clinical records was also transferred, and this has resulted in extended timelines for data retrieval and audit testing. In addition to the operational handover: The Company underwent a change in external auditors during the fiscal year. A significant number of JNH's employees, including finance and administrative staff, transitioned to Well Health. A resulting delay in commencing the audit, which only began in late February 2025 Despite the late start, Jack Nathan Health made every effort to complete the audit by the filing deadline. Based on that intent, the Company did not apply for a Management Cease Trade Order (MCTO) in advance. However, given the ongoing audit, the Company was unable to meet the statutory filing deadline. As a result, the Ontario Securities Commission issued a Failure-to-File Cease Trade Order ("CTO") against the Company on June 6, 2025, under applicable securities legislation. The CTO prohibits trading in the Company's securities in all Canadian jurisdictions where reciprocal orders apply, until the required filings are completed and the order is revoked. The Company continues to work closely with its auditors to finalize the audit and expects to file well within the 90-day period required for automatic revocation of the CTO. "This past year marked a major transformation for Jack Nathan Health. The transition of our Canadian medical business to Well Health involved an extensive operational and systems handover," said Mike Marchelletta, CEO of Jack Nathan Health. "We recognize the delay in our reporting obligations and remain fully committed to transparency. Our team is working diligently to finalize the audit, and we anticipate filing as soon as possible."
