Mega update ready to trigger Alexander Isak to Liverpool

Yahoo29-07-2025
Liverpool are getting closer and closer to a deal for Alexander Isak. The Reds are doing all they can to smash the transfer record.
Liverpool have broken their transfer record this summer to bring Florian Wirtz to the club. They've paid an initial £100m to Bayer Leverkusen for Wirtz, with it potentially rising to £117m.

And now they want to do it again. Liverpool are eager to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in what would certainly be a club-record transfer.
In all likelihood, it would break the British transfer record, too. Sacha Tavolieri tells Sky Sports that Liverpool think a deal could happen at £120m, which would break that record.
Newcastle, though, are understandably making things difficult. They don't want to lose Isak, who has been their standout player since arriving from Real Sociedad.
However, Isak wants to move to Liverpool, resulting in him being absent from their pre-season tour and their new kit launch.
Now a major sign that a deal will be done has jumped out. Liverpool are looking good here.
Benjamin Sesko to Newcastle United
The Telegraph reports that Newcastle are now favourites to land Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. That means they're ahead of Manchester United in the race.
Now, the only way that could possibly happen is if Sesko had guarantees over playing time. Those guarantees would not be there, surely, if Isak were remaining at the club.
There was talk of Newcastle wanting to play 4-4-2 with Isak and Hugo Ekitike, of course, before the Frenchman joined Liverpool. But we're not sure a Sesko - Isak attack is one that makes any sense, given the players at the club.

Worrying Isaah Yeo detail emerges as Penrith's NRL finals charge hits major hurdle

Penrith coach Ivan Cleary admits he's not sure when Isaah Yeo will return for the Panthers as mystery surrounds the shoulder injury he suffered in last week's golden point win over Gold Coast. The Panthers trainer controversy has dominated the headlines this week, but the injury to Penrith's co-captain is also concerning for the club and their chances of securing a top-four finish. Yeo was in obvious discomfort after landing awkwardly on his shoulder in the first half of the Titans game. While he was able to play on and featured for most of the second half, Yeo was unable to finish the game and is set to miss Friday night's round 23 showdown at Newcastle, where the Panthers will be looking to extend their NRL winning streak to nine games. Isaiah Papali'i has been named to wear the No.13 jersey in the absence of Yeo, who has been an almost ever-present for the four-time reigning premiers over the course of their NRL dynasty. Since the start of the club's historic run in 2020, Yeo has only missed 16 games for the club and 14 of those have come around Origin time - whether playing for the Blues or being rested after games for his state. The only other two games Yeo has missed for Penrith over that period were due to head knocks in 2020 and 2022. And it poses a major question around how the Panthers will handle the absence of their inspirational co-captain and what effect it could have on their run home, after Penrith's coach admitted he's not sure when Yeo will return. Isaah Yeo will go for scans on a right shoulder injury that the Panthers hope isn't too suggests main concern is shoulder instability (subluxation/dislocation) - mechanism landing on outstretched just a subluxation considering ability to play through… — NRL PHYSIO (@nrlphysio) August 3, 2025 Penrith unsure when injured skipper Isaah Yeo will return "Clearly there's been a little bit of a concern with his shoulder," coach Cleary said. "We'll just give him as much time as he needs, and we're very confident he'll be back." The Penrith coach revealed this week that Yeo had not completely dislocated his right shoulder. RELATED: Dragons set to sign QLD Origin player as former coach lands new gig Calls for NRL rule change after second Panthers trainer incident Eels rocked as third player from grand final team 'requests release' But he conceded the timeframe on his co-captain's return remains a mystery and couldn't say whether Yeo would have been fit enough to play this weekend, had it been a grand final. "We don't know," the Penrith coach responded to a question about Yeo's likely return date. "It was a sublux, so it didn't come right out. They all vary. The fact that he can keep playing is a really good sign. Obviously he pulled up a little sore at halftime and then after the game. He won't be playing this week, and we'll just take it as it comes and see how he goes." Penrith have jumped up to fifth on the ladder - one point behind the Warriors - off the back of their eight-game winning streak. But they face a tricky run home after Friday night's game against Newcastle, with clashes against top-three sides Melbourne, Canberra and the Bulldogs, followed by an away game against the Dragons to close out the season. Yeo's absence for any of those games will make Penrith's quest for a top-four finish that much harder. And the fact that no team has won an NRL premiership finishing outside the four in the current finals format, highlights how important it will be for the Panthers to have Yeo back on the park. "Yeoy he is a massive integral part of our side ... To fill his shoes it is going to be a bit of a joint venture," prop Lindsay Smith said about the skipper. "There are definitely a couple of us boys in the middle that need to take a step up. "You can't replicate Yeoy and you can't replicate his leadership and calmness on the field. But everyone can chip in there in their own department to fill that void as a whole ... When he's been out, we've been able to do that in games." with AAP

FSG completes $130M deal but not the Alexander Isak transfer Liverpool fans want

Fenway Sports Group has put pen to paper on a new $130M deal — though not the one that many Liverpool fans might've wanted. In recent days, droves of Reds supporters have called on the club to sign Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United star has expressed interest in coming to Anfield, though the Magpies shot down Liverpool's initial bid of $146 million while valuing the forward closer to $200 million. As rumors continue to swirl surrounding a potential union between Liverpool and Isak, owners Fenway Sports Group inked another big-name player to a lucrative contract at their Major League Baseball franchise. On Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox signed outfielder Roman Anthony to an eight-year, $130 million contract extension that features a $30 million club option in 2034. Escalators pertaining to accolades including Rookie of the Year, MVP and All-Star selections could raise the total value up to $230 million. Heading into the season, the 21-year-old was widely regarded as the top prospect in all of baseball — and has thus far lived up to the billing. 'First of all, I want to say a special thanks to the Henry's — Mike, Tom, Sam, Brez, the whole entire front office, coaching staff, my teammates who are here today,' Anthony told reporters during a press conference formally announcing his extension. 'I can thank so many people, my family who are here today, my agents, and just everyone along my life who has helped me get to where I am today. There's a long list of people I could thank and a lot of people who aren't here right now. 'As we know, in this game it takes a team, and it took a team to get this done. I couldn't think of a better city to play in for the next eight to nine years of my life, and I'm super excited. 'I want to thank all the fans who show up every day and continue to support us regardless of the outcome,' he continued. 'It's truly just a special place to play and a special place to show up every single day. 'So I couldn't be more excited for this and couldn't be more thankful for everyone in this room and everyone who's helped me get here today.' Given the fact that both sides were interested in swiftly getting a deal done, Anthony asserted that the negotiation process went off with no hitches. 'This process was quick,' he said. 'This is a place that I want to be. There was no doubt about it. I came up through this org with so many of these people in this room and people who aren't in this room who helped me get here. 'So when the offer came through, it was something that I wanted to move quick on. And there was no doubt that this is where I wanted to play baseball for a long time.'

Wallabies hooker David Porecki retires from rugby

SYDNEY — Hooker David Porecki, who was a late injury withdrawal from Australia's lineup for the third test against the British and Irish Lions last weekend, has announced his retirement. Rugby Australia issued a statement Tuesday saying the 32-year-old Porecki, who sustained a heel injury last week, was retiring immediately and ending a career that included five seasons in Britain with Saracens and London Irish from 2015. He returned to Australia and the New South Wales Waratahs ahead of the 2021 Super Rugby season, and made his test debut a year later in a win for Australia against England in Perth. Porecki was part of Australia's 2023 Rugby World Cup squad and became the 88th Wallabies captain after an injury to Will Skelton, leading the team in three of its four pool matches at the tournament. Two-time champion Australia was eliminated in the group stage for the first time ever at a Rugby World Cup, hastening a change of coaching staff and leadership. Injury sidelined Porecki in 2024 but he returned to the Wallabies squad last month and started against Fiji in Australia's first test of 2025. His 21st and final test was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 26, when the Lions clinched the three-test series with a contentious late try. 'Rugby has given me so much to be thankful for and has been such a massive part of my life for so long but it feels like the right time for me to turn the page and start a new chapter,' Porecki said in the Rugby Australia statement, Australia's list of injuries continues to grow just four tests in the international season, although there has been some positive news for the Wallabies with a potential return for Allan Ala'alatoa during the Rugby Championship. Initially set to undergo shoulder surgery after sustaining an injury in Melbourne, Ala'alatoa is instead back in Canberra completing intensive rehab in the hope of rejoining the Wallabies for the four-nation tournament. The 31-year-old prop is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, giving him a chance of returning for the Sept. 13 test against Argentina in Sydney or the first match against New Zealand in Auckland two weeks later.
