Germany qualify, England hit six in Women's Nations League
Euro 2022 champions England shrugged off the shock international retirement of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Mary Earps this week to sweep aside Portugal 6-0 and set up a tantalising decider for Sarina Wiegman's side in the final group game against world champions Spain in Barcelona on Tuesday.
Spain eased past Belgium 5-1 and top their group by two points from England with only the winner of the four top-tier mini-leagues advancing to the semi-finals in October.
Germany booked their ticket to the two-legged semis with a 4-0 rout of the Netherlands.
That left them three points clear of the Dutch.
In the event of the two sides ending up level after Tuesday's closing games the Germans will go through on the basis of their head-to-head results - they drew when they met in the opening game in February.
At Wembley the star of the show was Aggie Beever-Jones, who will forever remember her first ever start at the iconic stadium.
The Chelsea forward scored in the third minute, again in the 26th with a header from Lucy Bronze's cross, and then completed her treble in the 33rd minute.
"I'm absolutely shattered," the 21-year-old Beever-Jones told ITV.
"Coming into this today after a busy season and I got told I was starting and I wanted to help the team as much as I can. I'm absolutely delighted right now," she added.
Joining her on the scoresheet were her club teammate Bronze, whose father is Portuguese, the Euro 2022 Golden Boot winner Beth Mead, and Chloe Kelly.
France, who secured their path to the semi-finals on the last matchday, maintained their perfect record beating Switzerland, hosts of July's Euro 2025, 4-0 in Nancy.
Les Bleues were runners-up to Spain in last year's final.
At Euro 2025 their group stage opponents include defending champions England and 2017 winners Netherlands.
Group A4 meanwhile is finely poised, with Sweden and Denmark, who meet on the final matchday, level on nine points, two clear of out of contention Italy.
As well as defining the make-up of the Nations League semi-finals the group standings also determine the teams contesting promotion and relegation matches to establish their starting league position in the European qualifiers for the 2027 Women's World Cup.

The Champions League is the ultimate title within the continent and up until now PSG has always come up short. It lost its only previous final against Bayern Munich in 2020. This is Inter's second defeat in the final in three years after losing to Manchester City in 2023.

US women cruise past China in friendly win
Goals from Catarina Macario, Sam Coffey and Lindsey Heaps delivered a convincing win for the American women, who dominated a fragile Chinese side at Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was the 17th win in 21 games for the USA's English head coach Hayes, who was tasked with restoring the Americans to the summit of the women's game following their early 2023 World Cup exit. Hayes, who led the USA to a gold medal at last year's Olympics, is preparing her squad for this year's qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. The former Chelsea manager would have liked what she saw in a fluid first half performance that saw China's risky tactical decision to play with a high line punished ruthlessly. Macario opened the scoring after 28 minutes, bundling home a close-range finish after good work from Alyssa Thompson. The USA doubled their tally seven minutes later with a brilliantly worked goal, which began when the gifted 17-year-old midfielder Lily Yohannes released Thompson down the right who crossed for Macario. Macario played a short pass into Coffey, who swept home with aplomb. Macario and Heaps both threatened to add to the USA tally with long-range shots that were just off target before half-time. Heaps though bagged the USA's third in the 54th minute, nodding in past China goalkeeper Pan Hongyan to effectively seal the win. The USA face Jamaica in a friendly in on Tuesday.

Paris erupted with flares and fireworks, car horns and an Eiffel Tower glittering in blue and red to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain's first Champions League title on Saturday, May 31. Blowing away Inter Milan 5-0 in the final prompted flashpoints and some arrests during the game itself in Munich but watched all over Paris – including inside PSG's Parc des Princes stadium, which beamed the match on a giant screen. Outside the stadium, there was a brief altercation during the first half between celebrating PSG fans cracking off flares, and riot police who used tear gas to disperse them. At the top of the Champs-Elysées avenue, a water cannon was used to protect the Place de l'Étoile, near the landmark Arc de Triomphe. Police said a large crowd not watching the match tried to push through a barrier to make contact with police. By 10:45 pm, which was approaching the end of the match itself, a total of 81 arrests had been made, French police said. Mindful of any celebrations getting out of hand, as has often been the case in Paris during high-profile soccer matches, PSG forward Ousmane Dembélé urged fans after the final to show restraint amid their euphoria. "Let's celebrate but without breaking everything in Paris," he told broadcaster Canal Plus. It was hoped PSG's rout of seasoned campaigner Inter – a three-time Champions League winner – would grab the headlines. There were also incidents on the Champs-Elysées following Algeria's African Cup of Nations win in 2019, and in 2021 following a match between Morocco and Algeria in the Arab Cup, and in 2022 after France and Morocco both qualified for the World Cup semifinals on the same day.
