Selangor KPDN destroys RM3.5mil fake goods in major bust

The Sun24-06-2025
SHAH ALAM: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) destroyed counterfeit goods worth over RM3.5 million today at the Bukit Raja Exhibits Storage in Selangor. This marks the state's largest disposal operation in half a decade.
Selangor KPDN director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey confirmed the seized items stemmed from 64 resolved court cases between January 2024 and May 2024. 'The disposed items include 41,000 self-care products, 4,000 clothing accessories, 4,370 watches and garments, 11,900 footwear units, and 300 motorcycle parts,' he stated during a press briefing. Additional confiscated equipment involved in controlled item misappropriation—such as pumps, flow meters, and storage containers—valued at RM250,000 were also discarded.
The cases fell under multiple laws, including the Trademarks Act 2019, Control of Supplies Act 1961, and Copyright Act 1987. Mohd Zuhairi emphasized the ministry's commitment to curbing illicit trade and protecting consumer rights.

Civil servant acquitted, discharged of corruption

The Kota Kinabalu Court Complex. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 19): A civil servant was freed by a Sessions Court here from a charge of allegedly receiving bribe eight years ago. Judge Jason Juga acquitted and discharged Nurul Syazwanie Idris, 35, without calling for her defence on Tuesday. In his reserved ruling, the judge held that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the accused. Nurul was accused of accepting the bribe from a man allegedly as a reward to help a company to get the work of supplying goods for a sport programme. The alleged offence took place on March 17, 2017. Nurul was charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act. The charge provides for a jail term of up to 20 years or a fine of not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. The prosecution had called 20 witnesses during the trial. Counsel Datuk Ram Singh and Prem Elmer Ganasan represented Nurul.

Cropmate posts RM3.5mil net profit on RM45.7mil revenue in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: Cropmate Bhd posted a net profit of RM3.5 million for its second quarter ended June 30, 2025. The company recorded revenue of RM45.7 million during the quarter, with local sales contributing about 96.9 per cent to the total. Cropmate achieved a gross profit margin of 17.5 per cent for the period. It said pre-tax profit stood at RM4.6 million, compared with RM5.0 million in the preceding quarter, as revenue slipped 5.9 per cent due to lower sales volume of fertilisers. Cropmate said its performance was mainly underpinned by sales to oil palm plantations and durian orchards. Looking ahead, the company said demand for fertilisers is expected to remain largely dependent on the performance of the plantation and food crop sectors. It added that any changes in political, social and economic conditions, including tariffs or trade restrictions, could affect demand and disrupt supply chains. Cropmate managing director Lee Chin Yok said the company remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency, helping customers boost productivity, and driving its growth initiatives. The company had used RM23.2 million from the RM42 million raised through its initial public offering. The proceeds were channelled towards working capital, capital expenditure and listing expenses. Cropmate said it is advancing its strategic expansion plan, which includes the proposed acquisitions of Factory Lots 8949 and 8950 and the planned disposal of Lot 51.
