Universal Studios Hollywood Goes Full Throttle with 72 MPH Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Coaster — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant8 hours ago

Universal Studios Hollywood is throwing the brakes out the window with its wildest thrill ride yet, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. Officially set to open in 2026, this coaster its a massive leap forward for the park in both speed and scale.
This will be Universal's fastest roller coaster ever, hitting a top speed of 72 mph. It's also the biggest coaster the Hollywood park has ever built, and it. Rather than fight the park's famously tricky terrain, the design team leaned into it. The track snakes down the hills, accelerating as it goes, like a controlled freefall with Dom Toretto-level attitude.
'Watching the progress of this incredible roller coaster come to life is truly spectacular,' said Scott Strobl, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Universal Studios Hollywood.
'2026 is just around the corner and we are equally as excited as our guests to introduce such an inspiring new ride to our theme park portfolio. 'Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift' will be a powerful game changer for Universal Studios Hollywood that will not only transform the topography of our destination but will infuse an entirely new level of adrenaline to our already dynamic theme park. We look forward to riding it ourselves and to welcoming guests to experience it in the very near future.'
The ride will launch from the Upper Lot, right across from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, on the former site of the special effects and animal stunt shows. Guests will start their adrenaline journey in a shady warehouse-style queue designed to mimic the film franchise's underground garage vibes.
One of the most eye-catching features is the coaster's ride vehicles that fully rotate 360 degrees. This innovation simulates the iconic drift action from the Fast & Furious movies, spinning riders mid-air in sync with the chaotic energy of the franchise. It's not just fast—it feels fast.
The 4,100 feet of track includes elevated segments and plunging drops, leading to a major loop situated near the revamped Jurassic World r ide. It's an aggressive use of space and speed that's clearly designed to keep the blood pumping from start to finish.
Universal also unveiled one of the four cars that will be used in the ride vehicles, Toretto's legendary 1970 Dodge Charger. That car is now on display at the park, and yes, it looks ready to explode out of the gates.
Universal Studios Hollywood is kicking its theme park game into high gear. Whether you're a thrill junkie or a Fast franchise lifer, Hollywood Drift sounds like it's going to demand repeat rides.

Gas prices fall across state, stay same in Meadville area

Average gasoline prices in Pennsylvania dipped by 3.4 cents per gallon over the past week to average $3.20 Monday while prices in Meadville remained unchanged at $3.50. According to GasBuddy's survey of 5,269 stations in Pennsylvania, prices are 8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 46.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The station in Pennsylvania with the cheapest gas had it priced at $2.69 Monday while the most expensive was $4.39. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.07. The national average is down 5.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and is 32.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. 'Average gas prices declined in nearly all states over the last week as refineries ramped up output and gasoline supplies surged,' said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. 'While a few states experienced price cycling — a pattern where prices drop sharply and then spike every couple of weeks — the overall gentle downward trend is typical as summer progresses. If oil prices continue to rise gradually, it could eventually impact gas prices, but for now, we likely won't see any major shifts at the pump in most areas this week.' Prices from around the region: • Andover, Ohio: Average price is $2.98 per gallon. • Ashtabula, Ohio: Prices as low as $3.04 per gallon. • Conneaut Lake: Average price is $3.49 per gallon. • Edinboro: Average price is $3.49 per gallon. • Erie: Average price is $3.11 per gallon, with prices as low as $2.89. • Mercer: Average price is $3.41 per gallon. • New Castle: Average price is $3.28 per gallon. • Oil City: Average price is $3.43 per gallon. • Pittsburgh: Average price is $3.42 per gallon. • Warren: Average price is $3.70 per gallon. • Waterford: Prices as low as $3.09 per gallon.

Adam Scott's Special Guest at US Open Grabs Attention

Adam Scott's Special Guest at US Open Grabs Attention originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Australian Adam Scott, the veteran golfer, is the fan favorite to win this year's U.S. Open and add another major trophy to his cabinet. He is one shot behind leader Sam Burns, who sits at 2‑under par through seven holes. To give him a boost in the final round, an unexpected guest graced the course. Advertisement Oakmont Country Club became the scene of an unexpected reunion on Saturday, when former U.S. Open champion Ernie Els paid a surprise visit to the practice range to support Scott, his longtime friend, ahead of the final rounds of the 125th U.S. Open. Els, a two‑time U.S. Open winner at Oakmont in 1994 and at Congressional Country Club in 1997, strolled down the fairway alongside Scott, offering tips and encouragement as media and fans looked on. The South African superstar, nicknamed 'The Big Easy' for his fluid swing and laid‑back demeanor, was in fine form as he greeted onlookers and paused for photos. Advertisement "Big Ern living his best life," a fan commented. "Looking very sharp Ernie," another expressed. "Two of the best looking swings in the sport." one fan pointed out. "He could still make the cut. Such a beast," a fan wrote. "One of the best. Big Easy 🏌️" another posted. "He's been on the commentary on Sky Golf in the UK, full of insight. What a chap," one fan dropped some insight. Els's presence not only highlighted the deep camaraderie among golf's elite but also underscored Scott's bid to capture a second major, 12 years after his Masters triumph in 2013.
